  1. BMI was 33 - the bare minimum for my insurance to cover. ins approved weight 212.5. Surgery day 12/16 weight: 198.5; Current weight 177 - so 35 weight loss. Seems like not a lot, but on my body it is a huge difference. If you want to feel better, go by percentage of weight loss or BMI numbers. My BMI is now 28+. No longer obese, now overweight. it is a tedious process, focusing on healthy living. I also had a hiatal hernia repair and my gallbladder removed. I only stayed one night in the hospital and was able to keep down liquids the whole time. I have had no great side effects except for my last mammogram - said my breasts changed (well of course they did!). Good Luck, just keep looking forward and don't look back.

  2. Sleeves on 12/16 and gallbladder removal. Yesterday had diarrhea all day. Dr said to take immodium and call if didn't stop. It did stop, however major gurgling and burning has begun today. I took a Zantac as I have had gerd in the past. The gurgles are so loud they woke me up while taking a nap!! I have been doing great but today seems to be a major hiccup. Hoping this is part of the healing process and not a serious problem developing

  3. My defining moment was out of control diabetes. I was borderline bmi but qualified and had surgery on 12/16. It took me 6 months to get approved and get my blood sugars down enough to have surgery. I just acknowledged to myself that if I want to get older and have my organs last I need to change. 10 days post op and I'm down 22lbs from qualifying weight. Blood sugars are all over the place but I realize my body is changing even at 54 and I need to monitor and keep moving. Here is to all our organs being healthy and giving them a chance to age gracefully. My surgery also included gallbladder removal and hiatal hernia repair. I've had it all from Constipation to now diarrhea. Nausea and pain has subsided. So far all worth it. Have had no regret just times of omg I have really changed things. At this point I'm thankful for the opportunity to change.

  4. Surgery is this Friday 12/16. PreOp work was Friday 12/9. Results came in yesterday all is good except White blood cells in urine. Out for culture - most likely uti. My question will my surgery get postponed or can they do surgery while on antibiotics? I'm trying to prepare myself for the worst.

  5. my surgery date is 12/16: went to preop today and they said I lost too much weight. I am a low bmi person. However I have crazy diabetes 2. They said I had to get blood sugars down to have surgery, I got them down and lost weight hence lower bmi. I started crying! They offered to change the date, asked me to gain weight in a couple of days etc. THEN my doctor came in, he said it's fine. my starting weight is what counts and I got approved with insurance based on that. Doc said you followed my diet and this is part of the program. Insurance companies really need to change especially with the comorbidity issues. I am getting surgery to help control my blood sugars. Weight loss will be a side effect. Passed EKG, urine test, blood tests and next week I get a sleeve and gallbladder removal. Also may fix my hiatal hernia and biopsy liver from any damage from my diabetes medications. All I can say is don't give up - so many hurdles and it is not over till surgery is done and I'm on my journey. For now no exercise, and Protein Shakes to maintain my weight. Thanks for listening - I'm officially cuckoo!!

  6. I am approved the insurance company called though they haven't told my surgeon yet. Surgeon still gave me a surgery day 12/16. First surgery of the day. Ordered my Vitamins. Will start taking now. Trying premier shakes arghhh they make me have bubbles. I don't have a prediet. However have to keep my blood sugars low for preop or they won't do surgery!

  7. HA! Insurance company called me. Offering Nurse svcs before and after procedure though I'm still not approved! Nurse said that sometimes the ins company approves but keeps it as pending for no reason! She said if I'm not notified by early next week to give them a call. It looks like this is a good sign. The impatience continues, I have a COLD. 4 hour pre op class on Tuesday. Thank you for all your counsel. Continuing my perseverance.

  9. So I understand the feeling. I was given advice from my nut who said, the people in the gym you are worried about are concerned about one person themselves. They are so consumed in themselves they have no time to look at or judge you. So I figured if I want to look like them, I need to just focus on myself. It's half the reason we are in this situation, always worried or taking care of everyone else. Don't let anyone stop you from becoming the you, you want to be!!!

  10. I am type 2 diabetic. Purpose for surgery is to help control. I've had it for 18 years so any hope that it will completely go away is little. Keeping it controlled is my goal. I was told anesthesiologist will not do surgery unless my bs is 200. I was told not to lose any weight so I was eating whatever. After being told this I'm no sugar no carb. Hoping to get my numbers good for Nov 4 surgery. I'm trying to be so obedient to all the rules and the rules keep changing. I really want to hear from other diabetics and their journey!

  11. I'm the exact opposite but love the fact you can all keep your mouths quiet. I've communicated at work, which has helped with my time off and lots of support. I told my family and they are all concerned and supportive I listen to the medical staff but I personally need outside support to help keep me balanced. I wish I was as strong as you all and not tell people. Waiting on my surgery date.
