  1. I received an email on 11/23 advising that my surgery has been authorized. Now I am just waiting for a call with my surgery date. I was approved a year ago and didn't go through with it. After thinking about it for over a year I know this is what I want and need. I'm excited and nervous at the same time!

  2. I went off of insulin when I started my pre op diet. I still take metformin 2 x a day , but I do not take the glimipiride. I had a really hard time controlling my diabetes. My A1c was 13 in January 2015. It is now a 6.9 but I do not expect to ever be off of the metformin, regardless of the weight loss. Some people say their diabetes is cured, but that is not the case for some of us Diabetes runs rampant in my family, on both sides. My uncle and dad have type 2 and neither are overweight.

Did your doctor tell you not to ever expect to be off of medication? Yes I hear you diabetes runs in my family as well but the good thing is that it's now a lot better for you then it was before the surgery.

  3. Are you drinking a lot of soda? My husbands a1c was 13 and when he stopped drinking reg soda it dropped to the 7s.

Hi! Actually no I don't drink a lot of soda. I have a soda like once a week. I think my problem is carbs..my culture eats a lot of rice so I been trying to avoid carbs and it seems to help a lot when I do.

  4. My a1c when I started was also 11 - prep for 6 months and a1c down to 7; was able to go off insulin and cut Metformin dose in half

After 2 months post op -a1c to 5 and off all meds ... But note the dr would not do the surgery until blood sugar was under control

That's great! That is one of my reasons to do the surgery. I am hoping I will no longer need medications.

  5. Hello I'm new here

I am in the process of getting approved for the sleeve. I am diabetic and my diabetes is out of control lately. I had blood work about 3 weeks ago and my A1C is almost 11.

Any diabetics that have had the sleeve? How were your levels after the surgery? Still taking meds? Any info would be greatly appreciated
