I have been looking online and trying to see what is best for the money. I am noticing not all of them are made the same! I want to make sure there is enough of everything I need in my Multivitamin. I guess I just want to make sure what I am taking is going to be the best for me.

  2. After RNY gastric bypass surgery, you are required to take many Vitamins for the rest of your life. This is because you body no longer synthesizes Vitamins from food. That part of your stomach has been cut away, so this daily requirement is extremely important. Even the formulations in the vitamins are important. For example gummy vitamins are not readily absorbed and therefore this is not an option. You cannot use a time-release version of B12 and sublingual formulation must be methylcobalamin. If you are taking Iron supplements, it must be ferrous sulfate for the best absorption. The Calcium supplements formulation must be calcium citrate for best absorption.

Also after surgery I lost my ability to swallow large or even medium size vitamins. I used a pill crusher or pill splitter to break them up to a size that I could consume. This condition lasted for a couple months and then my body returned to normal.

As @@Redmaxx said, they generally provide you with a half day class where they give you a book that details the Vitamin requirements in great detail.

I know I will have to take them everyday from surgery on out, I was just hoping to combine some. I already take Iron daily so that is one out of the way. I meet with my surgeon a month before surgery and we will go over that. The nut visit didn't really give me much as far as vitamins. Just told me that I need to take a multi and calcium. I am definitely hoping the surgeon will go over it and if not I will be sure to ask him before my appt is over! Thank you for all the advice!

  3. Hi there! I am getting a band to bypass surgery on April 5th! I am very happy as I have struggled very badly with the band since I had it in 2013. Now I want to read up about eating and how eating with the bypass is different then with the band, ect. good luck!!

I know what you mean! I have been doing tons of research from what it will be like to eat and what Vitamins to take. I am one of those people that wants to have everything in order and ready before hand! Hope your revision goes smoothly!

  4. So my surgery date is April 20th. I am looking into Vitamins and am not sure what is worth spending money on? I don't want to have to take a bunch of different things and am looking for something that has most of the Vitamins I need in one. Is there anything like that out there that you all know of or am I going to have to just deal with it and take multiple vitamins? Thank you all for any advice you have!!!

  5. So I started my journey in jun of this year. I have blue cross blue shield anthem so I had to do this sixth month route.

  6. So I am freaking out about my psych evaluation. I don't know why but I am! It is not until November 16 and I am already driving myself crazy about it. I don't know what to expect or if they will just tell me I need to do more evaluations. What was everyone's visit like? Or what were you freaked out about that did or didn't happen? Any input would be amazing and help ease my mind! Thanks all!

  7. I remember feeling like that last December when I started this. It was an extremely long road with a lot of time and work put into getting approval from insurance. In the end I was denied...five times. I am going to mexico next week. I am soooo ready for this to become a reality.

@Brenda Sherwood You were denied 5 times? That is crazy! I have called the insurance company to make sure everything is good before my consultation. I don't think I will have a problem with that but who knows with insurance companies. I hope you have save travels and your surgery goes well! I will be thinking about you!

  8. @@AmberMarie86 Use this time to prepare yourself as much as possible. Learn and practice eating how you will need to post-op. Figure out ways of combating head hunger and cravings. Start cleaning out closets. Get organized. Waiting sucks but make good use of the time!

@@KristenLe I never thought to clean out my closets, but it makes sense. I have been reading and watching videos to try to prepare myself as best I can. I don't want to do too much yet as far as buying things until after I have the consult and then I think I will be doing everything I can to get ready. I am a planner and have lists and things organized as much as I know how and can. Thank you for all the advice! I am looking for anything I can get.

  9. You're not alone in how you feel! I felt the same way about the waiting. I started the process in July/August. I likely won't finish the insurance approval steps until February. Surprisingly, the time is going faster than I thought. Do you have a lot of pre-authorization things to do?

I have already done the 6 months followed by the doc. I have my psyc evaluation scheduled and NUT scheduled. Just waiting

  10. Hi everyone! Three days post op, still at the hospital hopefully getting discharged today. This has been the best decision I've made! Coming out of surgery I was comfortable. As soon as the anesthesia wore off I was in so much pain from the gas! All I can say is walk walk walk walk walk and more walk! It's helped relieve so much of that gas pain! So far, I've been able to tolerate ice chips, Water, Jello and soup! No nausea or vomiting.

Glad you are going well! It's nice hearing what others have to say after surgery. It gives me ideas of what to expect! Hoping you continue to recover well!

  11. I don't think my appointment can come soon enough. My consultation is November 8. I am going crazy waiting for it to get here. I just want to get everything started. It seems like it is forever away! I need a plan and details and right now I have none of that and am waiting. I can't be the only one who is having this problem or has went through it!

  12. I am meeting with the surgeon next month and there are only a couple people that know. I haven't told my family or anyone. My husband and a lady at work who had RNY. People are so judgemental especially where I work. I don't know how I am going to keep it from them as I am only 5 ft and BMI is 43. I want this to be about me making myself better and not people judging or talking about me.
