  1. I had my RNY on 9/20 and got an infection to my left port site. Woke up today in excruciating pain, could barely function. Went to my surgeon's office and they opened it up there......OMG that hurt so bad, lots of gross stuff came out, but now I feel like a totally different person with minimal pain. I just wish I had been more insistent that this bubble above my incision didn't seem normal (it was almost like having a shelf over the port site). Everyone who looked at it seemed to think it was normal because of the suturing internally and then gluing. No signs of infection until last night. I am hopeful this is the worst of my complications. Hi

Everything is getting better, I'm trying to find new hobbies to fill up my time instead of the eating lol. How about you? Heather Sacramento CA RYN 8/22/16 I am doing much better. Dehydration is no joke, lol. I have been sewing to take my minds off things. I am making a Marshall from Paw Patrol costume for my son. If you're into crafts at all, that may help. Or as a lot of others say, walking, biking, etc, heh. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Financial Assistance

Also, check with your Bariatric center. A lot have financial assistance if you meet criteria. If not they may have some companies you can go through to finance your surgery Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Hi

Hi Heather I'm Nicole I'm from North Ridgeville, OH. I lived in Walnut Creek, CA at one time. I had my gastric Bypass on 9/20. Starting weight: 319 Surgery weight: 293 Current weight: 276 I finally did this for myself. I have a three year old and 15 year old. I wanted to be healthier to do things with my kids. When I explained to my little one why mommy had surgery so she could play with him more, he goes "Oh, that will be good." Lol. I also just want to be able to go places and feel comfortable. Not look around to see if I am the biggest person in the room and feel ashamed when I realize I am. I am seeking comfort in my own body. Only being a few weeks out, my diet is fairly limited. Tried: Rotisserie chicken with FF Greek yogurt and curry (yum!), no bean chili, lean ground turkey and chicken, FF refried Beans, FF cottage cheese I haven't found much I can't handle yet. Had a sensitive stomach prior to surgery, so I am trying to be very careful. I found a great WLS cook book on amazon. Tried the teriyaki turkey burgers last night (puréed for me), and it was fantastic. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

  9. My surgeon's office was great. I had my first appt within a couple weeks of my initial call. I have not had the problem of the not answering that I have seen so many others comment on. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

    Any Sept. surgeries?

  11. I had RNY on 9/20. When I came home, I had gained 17lbs post op in Fluid. That came off in about 4 days and then I have lost 13-14 lbs from my pre-op weight. It may take a little for your body to catch up with the surgery. It's probably why my doc strongly recommended to only get weighed at the follow up appointments after surgery initially. (I had already been weighed at the office twice due to a small post op complication). Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

    Acid reflux

Also, elevate the head of your bed. You can do this with multiple pillows or buy a wedge pillow. Laying flat can cause the reflux to be worse at night Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

    Acid reflux

For a few days post op, I had really bad reflux (have had GERD for many years resistant to most treatments). My doctor told me one TUMS would be ok to take if needed. BUT check with your surgeon to be sure they are ok with it Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

    Up and ok at 100%

Even with a minor post op complication, at ten days out today, I feel pretty good. I haven't required any pain meds since Wednesday. The sip sip sip is getting less annoying and becoming more enjoyable, as well as closer to reaching my daily goals. Like everyone says, we are all different, but the more positive you remain in your recovery, the better the outcome should be . You got this! Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

    Drain

@@Bhca8201 My surgeon told me that can be normal, however, if it is concerning, address with your surgeon. Pain can sometimes indicate infection (usually associated with redness as well), so reaching out to your surgeon may be a good idea so they can further assess you. 16. @@SlimBra Bypass wise, I feel terrific. I haven't needed any pain meds in the last two days. I had a little setback with a post op infection and have been pretty nauseous (I think because the antibiotic is a horse pill even cut in half, lol) Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

    Post Op Infection :(

Had my f/u yesterday. Good news is I can shower and don't have to do daily changes of the wound packing. The new standard is to let it heal from the inside out and push the packing out on its own. Unfortunately, all I can smell is this infection which makes it embarrassing to go out in public. The bactrim is huge (even cut up to accommodate my pouch) and I feel so nauseous most of the time. Hopefully they will have the culture results tomorrow at my f/u. I just hope it's not MRSA (I'm a nurse and have been around it)........... Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

  20. I had my RNY on 9/20. My abdominal binder has been a godsend! I would highly recommend. My team recommended I ask for it as soon as they wanted me to start walking in the hospital. It helps put just enough pressure on your stomach to make it slightly easier to move around without the cumbersome pillow. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

    Drain

The doctor was aware and didn't seem concerned. The drainage was about 1oz or so a day. Didn't seem like much in the bulb. But the amount coming out around it has been extreme. I'm seeing my surgeon tomorrow and hoping he removes this this. Sent from my SM-G930P using the BariatricPal App Hopefully he will remove it for you Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

    Drain

Actually, if you were having a lot of drainage in the bulb prior to discharge, they will leave the drain in. Removal varies but is based on amount of drainage. It is odd that they would leave the drain in and still have you pack around it. Is there still a lot of drainage in the bulb also? Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
