Hi, I'm Sherri...SAHM to JT a very active 4yo boy (why do we always say 'very active'?, like we've ever seen an especially calm 4yo!!) We live in Texas, just south of Dallas. My surgery is Thursday, September 11th. DH is taking that day off of work and he and JT will take me for surgery. The next day he'll have to return to work as he needs to save his sick days for his own banding later this fall!! JT attends mother's day out at a church a few blocks from our home and he'll need to be there at 9am on Friday. I thought that I'd just drive him myself...it's not far and I dont' even have to leave our little neighborhood streets to get there. I've been thinking that I might ask another mom to stop by and pick him up though, just to be safe. The weekend will be better because DH will be here to parent while I heal. After that? we'll just have to play it by ear! I'd love to meet some more SAHMs that are new to lap-band and are willing to discuss meal planning and entertainment (for the children).

Recipes: chicken Creole (from Frozen Assets) (20 servings) 4 Tbsp Butter 2 cups chopped Onion 2 cups chopped Celery 1 6oz can tomato paste 1/2 cup Water 2 16oz cans diced tomatoes 3 Tbsp worcestershire 1 Tbsp chili powder 1 tea salt 2 tea sugar Tobasco to taste 1/4 tea unflavored Gelatin, dissolved in 2 Tbsp cold water 2 cups cooked chicken, diced (or 2 lbs shrimp, cooked) Saute onion and celery in butter until tender. In separate bowl, stir together tomato paste and water until smooth. Add tomato paste and water to saucepan. Stir in tomatoes, worcestershire sauce, salt, sugar, chili, and tobasco. Simmer uncovered for 40 minutes. Stir in dissolved gelatin. Remove from heat; cool. Stir in chicken and divide into freezer bags. To Serve: Thaw and heat in saucepan until warmed through. Serve over rice. I also thought that they could eat it in tortillias or baked casserole style with some Pasta. For the taco meat I just cook the meat in a sauce pan with some V-8 and taco seasoning (store bought or homemade). The liquid helps the meat to really break up and be loose (and it adds some nutritional value!) For the etouffee...I don't have a recipe. I just saute some onion, bell pepper & celery in butter...add tomato sauce and simmer for a bit. Then I add the crawfish tails, some sausage and maybe some chicken. They eat it over rice.

Anyone else have a "bad" EKG? I failed!!!
srknepler replied to debbieperez55's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Lot of Hugs and prayers for you Debbie. I hope that your doc can ease your mind and give you the information that you need to understand what the EKG really said. Don't beat yourself up over the past! You are changing your life now to have a better future!! -
I'm using the Atkins Advantage (the only "OTC" shake my doctor allows) and they're not too bad. I mix them with ice and a spoonful of sf/ff pudding mix. The pudding mix really hides the protien flavor!! and the ice bulks it up and makes it more milkshake like.

I have one calle The Lap-Band Solution that my doctor's office gave me after my consult. I'm not sure if it's something that you can buy or if doctor's who follow Dr O'Brien's theory just get them to hand out? I looked at my library and found nada...

srknepler replied to gg2007BandSTAR's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Congrats GG!! You look awesome in your blog video, I'd have never guessed that you just had surgery! -
I agree with Scalingdown...the first 3 days were the worst. I am also on day 6 and it is much better. Keeping busy has helped me alot. I've done lots of cleaning in the kitchen area...pantry & freezers. DH kept me busy with some shopping over the long weekend I have also started planning some freezer meals for my family, so that I don't have to cook for them immediately post-op.

Taking Pills = how do you do it?
srknepler replied to debbieperez55's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
When my son was an infant (a preemie) he was on a few meds that had to be compounded and our insurance covered all but one of them. Speak to your pharmacist about which pills are safe to crush and buy a pull crusher (available in the pharmacy dept of most large stores). Metformin comes in an extended release and regular, so you need to verify which you have before crushing them! If you mix your crushed pills with a warm liquid (broth, tea) they will dissolve more quickly... -
Why Don't We Give A Little Update Where We're At
srknepler replied to speck's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I started my pre-op diet on Thursday, so today is day 6. It was hardest on day 2. Mine is: 2 protien shakes (atkins or myocel) 2 meals of lean meat (6-8oz)+ "all you can eat" green veggies 1 cup of fruit per day. I've lost a pound per day, so far.... I've been drinking lots of Water, caffiene free/unsweetened tea, and a few sugar free drink mixes. I tried the special K protien water pink lemonade, and it is OK. I drank it while working outside over the weekend...to keep up my energy. Oh, and I keep a box of chicken stock in the fridge to ward off hunger. I just zap a bit in a mug and drink it. It's fat free/sugar free/carb free....and has a bit of protien. -
I have those meetings on the 9th (two days pre-op) and they told me to expect to be there for 3-4 hours. Is anyone doing any freezer cooking for your family? I thought that I might do that this week. A few casseroles, maybe some chili or gumbo? I have a freezer meal cookbook, so I may check it out for some ideas. I am also going to make myself a couple of small batch Soups to freeze in small portions (I ordered the baby food storage containers from One Step Ahead).

pre op diet blue's
srknepler replied to serenityyyy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Becky~ I am on the exact same pre-op diet as the "other" Becky. I am also using the atkins shakes, and I didn't find them so yummy at first!! I mix them with a spoonful of sugar free/fat free instant pudding mix and some ice.....and then they are super yummy! It's like having cheesecake or banana cream pie or lemon pie...etc (oh, i find the vanilla shakes work best for this) I also mixed choco with a choco shake and it's pretty good too. My docs office offered a few recipes and this was the one that works best for me. -

pre-op diet + queezy
srknepler replied to KristyLynn's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Kristy~ I was thinking about you yesterday as I started my own pre-op diet and became queasy by late evening (and I am allowed some food!) How are you doing now that you've been on it a few days? Any better? -
Jachut~ That's awesome that you attend his practice! His book is so informative and straight forward. I love that he is straight talking.

post-op liquids for THREE weeks
srknepler replied to littlefroggy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
As a self proclaimed diarrhea expert...LOL (what a thing to be expert at, right?) I can confirm that her suggesions will likely work. You might add some chewable Fiber tablets to your daily routine for a few days (or some benefiber to your broth). (you should ask your doc before you do this, I am not a doctor!!) I find the best broth to be the new Rachael Ray stock-in-a-box. It has a wonderful rich flavor. I've had to drink broth most of the summer as a result of my out of control IBS, so I've tried every brand that I can find! I hope that you are feeling better soon! -
Welcome Lindsey! Looks like we have similar starting weights and goals Off to bake Cookies with DS. I am not having any though....I'm on my pre-op diet!! (which is OK, because I detest peanut butter!! and we are making monster cookies)

I'm a veteren web forum chatter, so the acronyms are second nature. I forget that not everyone knows them all. LOL

Has anyone heard of the Miracle Noodle
srknepler replied to Presto's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It causes me terrible tummy pain! I wish that it was good to me...:tt2: -
you can get liquid immodium (if your doc says it's OK, of course) to help stop the diahrrea. Also, get some chewable fiber! It'll help bulk up your stools...
-
I wish that I knew if I'd be up to driving by then. I'll only be 4 days post-op myself... Have you considered hiring a car?

The book that my surgeon's office gave me after my consult has some info about this....let's see. The Lap-Band Solution by Paul O'Brien MD (published 2007) in the FAQs Section: The word Lap-Band is trademarked throughout the book, I'm not sure if that is indicative of one brand?
