My surgery is Monday as well. Looking forward to that next step, as scary as it is! I'm sorry you don't have a lot of support around you. Do you attend any WLS meetings? I need to do that as well. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App That's such a good point! Ever since starting this 800 cal pre op diet I realize how quickly things can add up!! OCTOBER GBs where are you?!?!

Is there someone you can call at your program to talk to? The nutritionist maybe? Hopefully this is just pre-surgery jitters. From everything I've read though, the lifestyle change is huge and it's something you have to be committed too 100%. More than a few folks have the surgery and then self-sabotage and not change, and they DO put weight back on. You have to be truly, and honestly committed to the permanent lifestyle change. Your body will be just fine on the calories you can put in it. Remember, it's going to spend a long time "eating up" all those calories you (we all!) have been storing for years and years. I think if you go into this surgery wondering how soon you can get back to EATING, then it's the wrong mindset (personal opinion.) You have to go into this optimistic, and excited to use 'the tool" (your surgery) to help you NOT eat, to help you change your life for the better. Seriously, if you have questions, see who you can contact at your program to answer them and help allay your fears. Thank you for your words and advice! I'm not worried about eating down the road, I'm worried about eating enough calories to stay healthy in 10-20 years, etc. and the long term effects of the small amount of calories. I guess that's why they have us take the Vitamins geared for bariatric patients! I do plan on going in with the right mindset, I know it's just the nerves causing second guessing right now. I've lost 20 pounds in almost 3 weeks and sticking to my pre op diet so I know I can do it and once the surgery is over I'll feel better & wont worry about this so much. Good luck tomorrow, post an update when you can! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    OCTOBER GBs where are you?!?!

My surgery is scheduled for Monday and I keep having second thoughts and then I read that people eat 800-900 at a year out, This bothers me because you read so often to eat a minimum of 1200 calories for health reason... Is this healthy to do long term? I know I'm just having cold feet but I'm questioning this new lifestyle. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    What is your favorite snack?

Has anyone ever had the Halo ice cream? 60 calories a serving and 6 Protein. Is that WLS friendly down the road? I see lots of low carbers talking about it. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Fiber Supplement

I'm embarrassed to ask this, but do either of these keep you from having diarrhea? I feel like my body is already going through the dumping syndrome and I get so sick ... I'm wondering if it's the benefiber combined with the Protein bars. I feel so weak already on this pre-op diet that I hate to add another thing that makes me so shaky and weak. I appreciate both of your advice! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  11. My doctors office gave me the go ahead to drink premier shakes and switch it up with a Protein bar Meal Replacement. Does anyone have any bariatric, pre op friendly, favorites? Thank you! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    OCTOBER GBs where are you?!?!

Tammy, I have heard the PB2 is good and I've been excited to try it. I'm so sorry about all the issues you had with your band! I can't believe all the pain your were in... so not fun. Is that a typical side effect? I have not had any WLS before, this will be my first. I'm counting down the days till I can have the puréed foods after surgery. Haha 5 weeks to go! 14. Hello! I'm new here and scheduled to have my surgery on October 10th. My surgeon has me on a special diet of products sold through their office that add up to 800 calories a day, very high in Protein. But no vegetables. I was told they aren't allowed because they stay in the intestines a very long time and could still be in there at the time of surgery if incorporated them into my diet now. I can't find any information that states it stays in there that long. Has anyone been told that before? I want to do the right thing but I'm skeptical! Thank you! Pre so Diet

Nope, insurance does not pay for these Meal Replacements. I have a call into them today because the only thing I can tolerate are the Protein bars. I've thrown up trying to eat this stuff they are calling meals! I feel duped by this office for not giving me alternative ideas for this diet because it seems like they want to make a buck off of me on top of paying for this out of pocket! I don't want to be weak and starving by the time I have this surgery, so hopefully they will give me alternatives to those meal replacements. Sandeeb- what are the Proteins you can eat? OCTOBER GBs where are you?!?!

Of course it works out that way, Haha! Although that cabbage sounds like heaven! What did you think of the PB2? I've had friends that used it but never tried it myself but I plan to. What happened when you had your band fills? Did they make you sick? Thank you and keep us posted too! :-) Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    OCTOBER GBs where are you?!?!

Tammy, It's funny you say that about the chicken or fish because what I'd give for some raw veggies to help get these Meal Replacements down! Haha They are manufactured by Healthwise and while they are convenient, they taste awful! The only thing that I can eat that doesn't bother me is the Protein bar. Your surgery is October 5th? You can do it! Maybe you can add some yummy tasting things to help the Protein Drink go down easier? In our class they suggested sugar free flavored syrups, PB2 (sugar free Peanut Butter protein powder), decaf instant coffee. Good luck! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    OCTOBER GBs where are you?!?!

My surgery is October 10th! I just started my preop diet and they have me on a special diet of foods my office sells and they are already making me sick and I've only had 4 out of 6 for the day. I'm so nervous about getting through this phase before surgery. When they say this is not the easy way out, it's so true! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
