  1. Hi

I'm 3 years out and I deal with lots of gas!! But I eat a lot of Beans and cheese because I have a hard time with most meat. I can tell you one of my life savers is PAPAYA ENZYMES they are natural and they help with gas and digestion. I buy them at Walmart for less than $5.00. They're so very amazing. I carry them with me constantly. I'm not a DR so you should run it by your Dr.

Oh no, that just made me sad!

It's the most awkward thing to have gas noises coming out while you're trying to talk.

I will have to ask my doctor about the papaya enzymes!

  2. Wow, thank you all so much! I can tell this time is going to be full of ups and downs!

I just went with my husband to pick up my kids after being with the inlaws the past week and got sick out of nowhere because the burping and aftertaste it leaves, my body finally couldn't take it!

Does this gas last forever or is it all just because of the surgery? Please tell me it's not forever because I'll be talking and rumbles just pop out of my throat. :(

And then I worry that the 30 grams of Protein I had for the day are gone now and I don't have the willpower to force myself to get that Protein and another 30 down again.

I'm sorry to sound so negative. I'm truly appreciative of the thoughts and motivation!

  3. Yep, I sure did. Sometimes I still do (1mon out). It's lessening - but regret is a very normal feeling. All the vets say it goes away so I just focus on today! But you're not alone. Just don't let it get the best of you!

Thank you! That is good to hear!

I'm having trouble with these gassy burps that have an eggy taste and those alone are making me sick. I can't keep my Protein down because of it.

Anyone have trouble with that and know how I can get those to go away?

I did a post asking that question about the Patches got some good responds on it. Going to ask my NUT can I use them.

That's awesome news! Please let me know what your NUT says, I'll ask mine too!

I feel your pain, but It sounds like we have some positive things coming our way and we need to look forward to those. :)

Yes we do and I hope it gets better. These gas pains are HORRIBLE and I'm so sore

Gas-X to the rescue!!! They make dissolvable strips.

My doctor didn't suggest them, when I called today to talk about the gas, but I need to ask on Monday!

Do the strips clear out the gas or stop the gas?

Are you burping a lot? I am and it helps but then the taste makes me gag! Can't win! Haha

  6. My doctor actually encouraged the Patches.

I haven't had blood work done yet but with my seasoned surgeon suggesting them I think everything will be good. The Patches have extra Calcium & also Biotin for your hair. I'm 3-1/2 weeks out & have had no side effects of that sort.

I too had regrets but in the last week things have been much better. Just listen to your body and don't try to over do before you're ready.

Hang in there - I truly believe we made the right decision!

Did you purchase the patches from the store on these boards? That is so encouraging to hear that!

The NUT scared me to death talking about permanent damage to your body from not taking Vitamins, so that's stressed me out worrying about not keeping them down!

That is encouraging to hear that things are looking up for you after feeling regretful.

While doing the preop diet I was obsessed with watching the weight fall off and now that the surgery is over I don't even care, because I'm so upset about myself for doing this.

Thank you for your words of encouragement!

  7. Here's the deal....the first several months is rough. That is a reality but I promise it does get better every day.

My surgeon had me stop my Vitamins 2 days before and did not start me on them again until i was 30 days post op. Every surgeon is different.

Just take it one day at a time and focus on liquids. If you dont get enough, that it itself can make you feel miserable.

Djmohr- I was hoping you'd respond! You always have such a kind and genuine response to everyone on these boards.

I have to remember this and know that down the road is when I'll feel better about everything!

    Thank you so much!

  8. Yes I feel like it has been a source of stress too thinking I'm going to get sick not taking Vitamins or drinking enough Protein.

Also- I started my Vitamins 4 weeks before surgery. But they were not the kind I have to dissolve in Water. The taste made me gag in addition to the regurgitation!

So you think my main focus is to just sip in small amounts?

Have you heard anything about the Vitamin patch? I was thinking of trying that until I can take the pills again.

  9. Did anyone else feel this way at first too?

I'm having a hard time with getting the Vitamins and Protein down and last night I woke up several times choking on regurgitation.

I knew the beginning was going to be a challenge, but I'm hoping to hear positive stories of how it got better for you, & if the first couple weeks was a challenge.

I'm looking forward to when I can start thinking positively about making this decision.

  10. How is everyone feeling? Mine was on Monday and was doing okay until about 5 yesterday and been nauseous and throwing up since. :(

I'm beyond frustrated and nervous I made the wrong choice to do this surgery. The doctor will be here in an hour to assess. I'm so nervous he's going to make me stay another night. But if I'm still throwing up, i'd rather be at the hospital.

  11. Did u fill it yet? I had orthopedic surgery and had to do. It is very expensive!! Insurance covered 20 days I think, but after that the syringes were crazy money. Hope your RX covers it...it's not that bad, my son (12) used to give them to me, he loved it!

Sent from my SM-G920V using the BariatricPal App

It's filled, should I get it?

Yes, between this and the blood thinners, paying for surgery, my kids can no longer attend college

My surgery is at 10 am in the morning!

  12. Thank you! Yes, a little. More nervous about keeping all the Vitamins, pills and injections straight after. I'm trying to come up with some organization and checklist for it to go through everyday so I don't miss anything.

They also gave me a RX for something to prevent gallstones. Which could be helpful in preventing your gall bladder to be removed down the road. BUT it costs $350 a month. They told me it was optional but if it'll really prevent them and additional surgery down the road, I feel like I should take it.

Has anyone heard about this and the effectiveness?

  13. Citrucel is the only one that does not cause stomach gurgling and excess gas. It costs more but is so worth it.

I just wanted to tell you that I've been using this since you suggested it and my stomach is a 100 times better!! Thank you!

I do have to switch to miralax 2 days before and for the first 2 weeks preop, so that makes me nervous. I hope I can handle it.... haha

    Thanks again!

  14. My surgery is scheduled for Monday and I keep having second thoughts and then I read that people eat 800-900 at a year out, This bothers me because you read so often to eat a minimum of 1200 calories for health reason...

Is this healthy to do long term?

I know I'm just having cold feet but I'm questioning this new lifestyle.

my surgery is monday and im scared as hell, i keep going back and forth one minute im like yes yes yes, then im like oh crap what am i doing to myself..... some people around me arent to supportive either so i keep hearing horror stories.... im just going with the flow and ill make it to the hospital on monday

Yes-- that's exactly how I'm feeling!

My surgery is Monday as well. Looking forward to that next step, as scary as it is!

I'm sorry you don't have a lot of support around you. Do you attend any WLS meetings? I need to do that as well.

Main thing is Protein Protein. I think people in general eat a lot of empty calories
