    4 days post sleeve

Congratulations! I am almost 3 months out and I still can't get all my Protein in, so it sounds like you are doing great. It's still hard for me to get all of my recommended liquids in as well, but I am really close. Keep up the great work and I wish you all the best of luck! Drinking question

I am almost 3 months out and I can drink normally with no problem. I can swallow 4-5 times with ease...I think that's gulping anyway. That was one of the same questions I had for my doctor, and they told me that no I would not have to sip forever and he was right. Just have to give it some more time. ☺ Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G920A using the BariatricPal App

    ONEderland!

Wow! Congrats to you! That is awesome!! I am also about 2 months and 3 weeks post-op and hit 57 pounds down as of this morning. I have 35 more pounds to go until I hit ONEderland but I know I will get there. I haven't been under 200 pounds in probably 15 years, so I can't wait! Again congrats and you are doing great!! Telling a new partner about your WLS

My thought is....if she really cares about you, she isnt going to care if you have had WLS surgery or not. She should tell you how proud she is of you for making such a positive change in your life. We all know this is not an easy thing to do, so she should have lots of respect for you making this positive lifestyle change. I think you should just be honest and tell her that you are sorry you haven't mentioned it before, but that you were nervous about what her response would be, but that you just didn't want to keep it from her any longer. If she gives you any negativity about it, then she is probably not the right one for you. I have a feeling she is going to be very proud of what you have done and how far you have come. The best of luck to you, and keep up the great work. Let us know how it goes. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G920A using the BariatricPal App

    So excited!

As of yesterday, I am 9 weeks post-op from having my gastric sleeve done. This morning I hit my first mini-goal of 50 pounds lost. I just wanted to post to say how excited I am and thankful for this tool that I now have. I am hoping it is going to really change my life. Thanks for reading! Liquid

I only had to do one week of liquids pre-op and it was definitely the hardest thing so far, for me anyway. I am 9 weeks post-op today. The hunger will definitely get better. Hang in there and good luck to you. ☺ Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G920A using the BariatricPal App

    2 days post op

I was the same way. They made me so nauseous. I wasn't able to tolerate them until several weeks out. I am nine weeks out today, and I still can't drink them in the morning because they still make me nauseous if I do. I have to drink them in the afternoon. And I'm with you on the pain too, the only thing that really bothered me was the gas. Other than that, it was very minor pain. So grateful for that!! ???????? Question for those with office type jobs

I am an underwriter at a life insurance company so basically I sit all all day. I asked my doctor how long he thought I should take off, and he said one week. I had my surgery on a Wednesday and went back not the following Monday, but the Monday after. So I took off about a week and a half, but that was only because I had enough vacation time to do so. I would have been fine going back that next Monday. Hope that helps! ☺ Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G920A using the BariatricPal App

    Would I be a candidate?

My insurance did not cover me at all because they simply don't cover ANY weight loss surgery, which is is ridiculous in my opinion, but that's another topic. LOL! If your insurance does cover weight loss surgeries, it sounds to me like you would be a candidate because of the co-morbidity issues. But, don't feel alone at all....I would be willing to bet the majority of us here have food issues and problems with the way we eat. That's why most of us are in the position we are in. Don't let that deter you!! This is an excellent tool....I am only a month post-op, but trust me when I say that right now, I have NO desire to overeat. You will be in a lot of pain if you eat too much, so as long as you follow the diet guidelines, I feel confident you will do fine. You won't be able to eat like you used to. I highly recommend it. Good luck with everything!

Throat swollen 17 days post op?

Hi rolosmom7, Can you clarify...has your throat been like this for the entire 17 days? Or was it just for the first few days, and then happened again today? If its new, I'm wondering if maybe you are just getting sick with like strep or something similar? It is has been constant the whole time, I think you should definitely give your doctors office a call. Best of luck, and keep us posted. I hope you feel better really soon.
  18. Hi Boudala! I have had 10 surgeries in my life, and this one was by far the easiest, next to having a cyst removed from my hand. I was self-pay as well, but ended up having to stay 2 days in the hospital....the reason was because I had a hard time coming out of the anesthesia, so they kept me another day just to be safe. But in regard to the pain, it was very, very minimal in the surgical area. I had some gas pain in my shoulder, but it was bearable. Just make sure you walk, walk, walk. I had to walk 20 laps around the hospital floor before I could be discharged. I definitely recommend the walking about every hour...it helps tremendously with the recovery. I also have a two story house, so the first night home, I decided to sleep downstairs in my recliner. But my butt was starting to hurt from being in the chair too long, so the second night home, I went up the stairs and to my room. It wasn't bad at all. I just took them slow and held a small pillow to my abdomen. You will do great, and I wish you the best luck!
  19. Hi NYC1992, Congrats on your new journey!! Sounds like you are doing great! I had just created a new post to ask for people's stories on skin revision surgeries and the pain they had went through. I have seen shows about skin revisions, and they all seem horribly painful. Would you mind advising your experience, and if you would recommend it? Thanks!!
  20. Hello everyone!! I am just a month post-op now and have lost 34 pounds already, so I am thrilled with my progress so far. I know this was the right decision for me, and although I am only one month out, I am concerned about what my body will look like once I am down to the weight I want to be. I know I will have saggy skin/chest, and I knew that was a strong possibility before I decided to have the surgery. Its not something that would have ever changed my mind though. I have watched so many shows about people having skin revision surgeries, and they seem to be in so much pain!! I have had 10 surgeries in my life, so I am no stranger to pain, but, I just don't know if I want to put myself through it. Here are the surgeries I have had: 1) broke my leg in high school so had to have a rod put in my femur 2) had a bone infection for almost a year, so after my leg was healed, they took the rod out 3) c-section 4) c-section (and to add, my boobs are already saggy because of these 2 children, LOL!) 5) gallbladder removed 6) lumbar laminectomy with fusion 7) got infection from the back surgery, so they opened me up to clean it out 8) had to go back in again because of the infection 9) had cyst removed from my palm 10 gastric sleeve My back surgeries were by far the most painful surgeries I have ever been through, but skin revision surgery really scares me. I don't know what I will look like once I am done, but I can only imagine I will need a lot of work. If I do anything, it probably would only be my stomach and a breast lift. I would probably just live with my arms and legs. The gastric sleeve surgery was probably the easiest surgery I have ever had...that and the cyst removed from my palm. The only pain I really had from the sleeve was from lying on my back for the 2 days I was in the hospital. I cannot lie on my back anymore (comfortably) since I have had my back surgery, so that caused quite a bit of pain. The gastric sleeve itself was almost painless. Anyway, long story short, I was wanting to hear from people who have had skin/chest revision surgeries, and how the pain was for them. I know everyone is different, but I was just interested to hear some stories and if people would recommend it, or say it wasn't worth it. Thanks in advance to everyone!

    Horrible pain!

I'm a little over 3 weeks post-op now. I know for the first several days after surgery, it was very hard for me to drink. I had to take tiny sips because if they were too big, it would hurt like crazy....but not so much in my stomach, it was in my esophagus. It would feel like it was just sitting there or getting stuck, which is totally normal in the beginning. So if its really your esophagus that you are having pain in, then that is pretty normal. You are just swollen and will get better. It got much easier for me to drink at about 5-6 days out. I never had any pain in my stomach itself when drinking though.

Weight gain weight 10 days post op?

I certainly can't take in that many calories either, but I also can't get in the 800 that she mentioned she's getting in. 200 more wouldn't be a huge jump for her, could be done with a protein shake. Just throwing it out there as a thought to help. Not trying to hurt anyone.

Weight gain weight 10 days post op?

Uh, there's NO WAY anyone can get in that many calories 10 days post op. It's not physically possible. It's not anything she's doing wrong. The calorie deficit alone causes the starvation mode. It's also going to cause a stall here pretty soon. Happens to everyone!

Weight gain weight 10 days post op?

I am 10 days post-op today as well. I have lost weight each day since my surgery, except for 2 days. On both of those days, the day before I did not get in enough Protein or calories. I have read that if you aren't getting in what you need, your body will go into starvation mode and will hold on to its weight instead of losing. I am still not getting in my doctors recommended 80 grams of protein per day because I just can't drink that many Protein shakes, but I am trying. I can definitely tell the difference in my weight loss though if I don't get much protein in. It sounds like you are doing really well on your protein though. I'm wondering if maybe you are getting in too many carbs? Maybe you need to increase your calories to 1,000 or even 1,200? I am not sure I have a good answer for you, but I know this surgery does wreak havoc on our body and hormones, so I am hoping everything will straighten out for you soon. Best of luck!
