    Protein Ideas

If that's the one that I'm thinking of, I thought it was nasty. Taste like medicine to me. I use unflavored Isopure Protein mix, and I put half of a scoop in my drink twice a day. It's not totally unflavored, but doing it that way makes it drinkable. I use it with my other drink mixes and works great Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G920A using the BariatricPal App

    Denial about my weight

I completely understand how you feel. It seemed like I was seeing the same person in the mirror no matter how much older I got or how much weight I gained. When I saw a pic of myself (which I rarely allowed before), I nearly fell out of my chair. I couldn't believe how I really looked. And even now after I have lost weight, I still see the same person in the mirror. What really helps me is comparing photos from then to now...then I can really see the difference. Good luck with everything!
  4. I'm not too far off. I will be 44 in March and I had my surgery 8/31/16.

I wanna know about carbs... Seriously!

I am by no means an expert...I'm about 4 1/2 months out, but my carbs sound about the same as yours. I don't go over more than 20 per day, and I usually don't even hit that many. I'm down 78 pounds so far. Back in the day, years ago, I did the Atkins diet where I stayed in the 2 week induction phase for quite a while, and kept my carbs below 20 at that point as well. It worked great for me and I lost a lot, but of course gained it back once I started eating normally again (well, not worrying about carbs anyway.) Staying below 20 now seems to work for me, so I am going to continue it as long as I can. I keep my Protein at 80 grams a day. I don't really worry about fat. Good luck! You are doing great!

    Hospital stay

Mine was supposed to be just an overnight stay, but I ended up staying 2 nights. I had a really tough time coming out of anesthesia due to sleep apnea, so I was sent to ICU the first night. Then I went to a regular room the next day and spent the next night. So had surgery on Wednesday, and went home on Friday.

    Constipation

I have definitely been dealing with horrible constipation since my surgery. Unfortunately I already dealt with constipation prior to surgery because I take a long term pain med for chronic back pain. That already slowed me down tremendously, and it has now just gotten worse since my sleeve. I do take a stool softener every day, but I'm not sure how much it really helps. I usually have to take a laxative, and sometimes I even have to resort to an enema. I have tried Miralax, but it doesn't seem to work for me. I might try Benefiber, but I'm really trying to stay away from carbs. I talked to my doctor when I went for my first follow-up appt in the hopes that he would put me on something, but no such luck. He told me to increase my liquids which is certainly easier said than done! If things don't improve, I'll be asking him about it again when I go back in March.

    Transformation Tuesday

Well thank you so much!!! Well I am about 4 1/2 months out now. I am still only able to eat 2 ounces at a time, so I am so grateful for that. I have read where so many people can eat more than that at this point, so I am really praying that it will continue on this way for a lot longer...although I am expecting it to change any day now. Basically I am following a low carb diet. I focus on getting 80 grams of Protein a day. Because I can still only eat 2 ounces at a time, its impossible for me to get my protein in from food alone. I add Isopure unflavored protein mix to my drinks. I do 1/2 of a scoop two times a day, because adding a full scoop is just to much for me (its not truly completely unflavored, so doing it this way allows it to be drinkable.) And sometimes I drink a Premier Protein either instead of, or in addition to the Isopure, for a change of scenery, and I will usually eat an Oh Yeah Protein Bar also (the cinnamon roll flavor is so good). Doing these things every day puts me close to my protein goal, even without food. I also walk 2 times a day, for about 20-25 minutes each. As far as my diet, I try not to go over more than 20 carbs a day. I hope that helps, but please let me know if I can help any further. Best of luck in everything you do, and thanks again for the compliment!

    Shoe size?

I definitely think this is true, for me at least! Luckily, where I work, we can wear jeans and sandals, things like that as we typically don't have anyone in the office. Last week, we had to dress business casual because of someone coming in. I haven't had to wear dress shoes in about a year or so. I tried to put a pair of flats on, and when I walked, they flipped up and down off of my heels. So there was no way I could wear them. I never thought I had lost weight in my feet, but I guess I did. I'll take weight loss anywhere I can get it. :-)

I Want To See Before & After Pics! (Cont'd)

I just decided to post pics for the first time tonight....I am embarrassed about the first pic, but figured oh well, I'll do it anyway. I'm about 4 1/2 months post-op and hit 76 pounds down as of yesterday. The first pic was about 3 weeks after my surgery and taken in Sept 2016. The second pic was taken this morning. I was in a bit of a hurry, so I apologize for the angle. I am so grateful that I made the decision to have this surgery. It was one of the best things I have done. I still have a ways to go, but I am confident I will get there!

Am I eating enough ? Gastric sleeve post op

I still have a hard time getting all my fluids in too. When I am at home, I will set a timer that goes off every 5 mins to remind me to drink. It seems to help! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G920A using the BariatricPal App

    Just got home from Surgery.

I definitely agree that everybody is so different in their pain. Doshea5 mentions it was worse than their spinal fusion....I had that surgery too and it was the most pain I have ever been in in my life. However, with my sleeve I had hardly any pain at all. So unfortunately, everybody is truly different...but I can say that it will get better soon. Just hang in there, we are all here for you! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G920A using the BariatricPal App
