    September Sleevers!

I like the vanilla, I add cinnamon and a drop of vanilla extract and serve over ice. Hmmm....almost like a milk shake, blended with fresh berries is great too!. Had my 2 week yesterday and I am officially cleared for purees! Woohoo! Officially down 36# since pre-op diet and 22# since sleeve date 09/29. I too, am able to drink a lot of liquids but Doc told me not to worry about it, that I was doing fine. Had my first lunch out with the boys, and ordered a black bean burger, no bun, with a side of avocado and sliced tomato. Mushed it all up with a cilantro lime sauce and it was freakin' heaven. Ate slowly and only finished about half of it. Its not that I was full, but didn't want to push it and I felt satisfied. I wish I would have taken home the other half because with the 2 mile total walk there and back from the bar, I was ready to finish it by the time I got back to the office. So far I'm not really missing food, I am missing beer though . Maybe one day. All if all I feel great!
  3. So I'm 2 weeks post op today (09/29 sleeve) and I go for my first post op visit to the doctor tomorrow (Friday). It was supposed to be week 1 but Hurricane Matthew changed those plans here in South Florida. Everything for me has been going really smoothly and I felt really fortunate to be recovering so well with no issues with drinking or food so far. I did notice something yesterday that has me concerned however. When I get out of bed there is a point that this mass (roughly mini football size) seems to rise out of my belly. I never had anything like this before even though the Doc said he fixed a hernia which I never noticed to begin with. This is definitely noticeable even though I only feel it and it is only visible in a very small area of movement when I get out of bed. I ask, is it a swollen gut, or did I do something during recovery that made this thing worse? There is no pain or discomfort at all just looks like I have an alien in my belly. I appreciate your opinions as I can't wait for tomorrow and maybe you'll have some advice on things I should ask the DR.
  4. So just got back from the Dr.'s office. Good news, 36# of weight loss since 09/19, start of my pre-op. #22 in two weeks. Bad news is, I don't have a hernia but I do have something called diastasis rect, or weakening and/or separation of the adominal muscles. It is not noticeable except for a small range of motion when getting out of bed, looks kind of like my belly is extended. Doc says it may go away with continued weight loss and was probably cause by rapid weight gain in the first place. Nothing serious, perhaps I shall give this thing living in my belly a name.....Alfred.

    Diastasis Recti

did you get any more info on this, just found out I have the same thing. I am 2 weeks post op and noticed it getting out of bed, otherwise not noticeable. I thought it was a hernia.

    Rice?

That's me!! TJs for the win. costco has it too, if you like to buy in bulk. It is the fresh variety with the veggies in the walk in refrigerator.
  7. I was doing sooo good. I almost 2 weeks post op and decided to try some eggs even though I'm not supposed to. I scrambled it up with cheese but I'm not sure if I ate too fast, too much, or eggs just didn't sit well but about half way through I felt discomfort like it got stuck had huge amounts of gas and finally threw it up. It wasn't a pretty 20 minutes. Lesson learned for the next time and back to liquids for now. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
  8. Yeah I think I'll give it a bit and probably try a fried egg instead. I was so looking forward to it too, it was gross.

  10. I'm a week post op (09/29) and have been feeling great. Unfortunately I live in Wellington which is in Palm Beach County and as you may know we have a hurricane in the area. My wife being a nurse is on the A team and has been on lockdown since yesterday. Guess who's been giving me my blood thinner shots? Yup I had to man up. Very proud of myself and my wife still doesn't believe me. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Take THAT Matthew!

Ok......weighed myself after Breakfast and after a bottle of Water. 341#. Down 33.6# from the morning of Sept. 19th when I started my liquid pre-op diet. My clothes are starting to get baggy. Loving it so far, but so ready for something other than liquids though. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    September Sleevers!

Hey Sept. Sleevers. 9/29 here......I was supposed to have my 1 week follow up today but it was cancelled due to the hurricane . 1 week out I feel great, can jump out of bed, and have no problems drinking my liquids. According to my wife I'm drinking too fast. I can sip away a 11oz Protein shake container in 20-30 minutes. Same goes for Water. I was hoping to ask the Dr but it'll have to wait. Anyways, stay tuned the scale will be coming out after I post this for my own 1 week weigh in. I've already noticed my tight clothes are getting loose Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Did I eat too much?

Awesome post, and timely! So I'm day 6 postop and my wife is freaking out over the same thing. Since Day3 I have no problems finishing a 12oz Protein shake over 20-30 minutes. Just constantly sipping away it. Fluids for me have not been an issue at all, cold, hot, room temp. She is concerned that I am drinking way too much...........is there such a thing?

    Hunger pains

Not so sure, I'm 3 weeks on liquid (2 pre-op, 1 post-op). I saw a whopper commercial the other day and could hear my stomach growling for it.

    Sleeved Sept 29th! Help!

Hey sleeve buddy, I was on the 29th too. Sorry to hear you are having a rough go at it. Some typical suggestions, have you tried changing temps? Also I noticed the first sip would hurt sometimes if I had a gas bubble in the way so I would burp first or take 2-3 multiple sips to avoid the first sip discomfort, which for me is all it was and ended day 2. I also would suck on a sugar free popsicle at least it would get some fluids in. Dehydration sucks. Hope you figure it out quick.

    September Sleevers!

Day 5 Post Op and I feel almost back to 90% of normal. Yesterday I got around the house really well, took the dog for a walk around the neighborhood and even drove to spend some time with my parents. Fluid intake has not been an issue for me and I feel fortunate to be able to take a pretty good sip. As of yesterday afternoon, the constant toilet trips have finally stopped and the intestinal rumbling seems to be coming to an end as perhaps my digestive track is getting used to the new system. I am also able to get up and down much easier and with less discomfort. Two weird / cool things that happened, I had a bit of wet oatmeal and it was like heaven, never have I tasted anything so good, little cinnamon holy crap it was awesome. Also, I made a cup of coffee (I know, no caffeine, I'll buy decaf today) after dinner last night and not sure what it was, but I have never felt caffeine like that, I was flying for 15 minutes, Finally, I was told to wait for my first post op to weight myself but I ended up jumping on the scale and I was down over 12# from my surgery date and 27# from the start of my preop diet 3 weeks ago. So far so good, I hope things continue to go well and feel very fortunate as I know some of you are struggling much more than me. Today, we are cleaning out the closets of most of my fat clothes, leaving just enough to get me through the next few months. I'm never going back to this weight again. The other day I found a pair of 36 Billabong board shorts that I probably last wore when I was 21 and those are going to be my goal to get back into those by this time next year.
  18. September Sleevers! As I write this I am waiting in patient registration to go up to get my sleeve. My anxiety has been numbed by a xanex I took this morning but the nerves are still there. Last night I took a walk though the market picking up the little odds and ends I will need over the next few weeks and as I passed by the cookie aisle, soda, chips, and the bakery I felt nothing. Not sadness, not happiness, not loss but nothing. It has no control over me anymore. The wine section was different . Than I went to marshalls to pick up some socks and slippers (I never wear socks) for the hospital and I felt something different. I felt happiness that in a few short months I can walk into any store and wear anything I want. I'll probably end up looking like a teenager again because all of my skinny clothes are Board shorts, surfing t shirts, and vans. Point is. I am going to have a world to gain with very little to lose. Catch you all in a few hours on the flip side. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  19. I'm now waiting to go into surgery. IVs are in, belly shaved, all the nurses and doctors have paid their visits and asked their questions. I am finally at piece with my decision. Procedure is 30-40 minutes with 60-70 percent of stomach removed. An additional hour in recovery as I have been told. See you all in a few hours. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Liquid diet

Mine is Soups, broths, shakes, yogurts, puddings, and cream of wheat. Seven days in and I woke up this morning dizzy as hell with the room spinning and feeling super malnourished. Hope this is not an indication of what to expect post op. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
