  1. I just come from my second surgery consult with a different surgeon. I wanted to check out a couple different surgeons before making a decision about who I wanted go with for surgery. I have a high BMI and want to loose at least 50 pounds before my surgery. I was curious to know how much weight others lost before surgery. My insurance and doctor don't have a requirement.
  2. Awesome! December will be here before you know it!

    Sleeve or Bypass?

I would consult with the surgeon about this rather than the cardiologist. I know there's not the number of long term studies about the sleeve because the bypass has been around longer from what I understand. I know one person who has had the sleeve has done amazingly. All the bypass people I know had significant re-gain. I know it really depends upon the individual though and how s/he uses their tool.

    Surgery went well

That's great to hear! Best wishes on your recovery!
  5. I also work in higher ed. I told my supervisor, but I know with faculty you don't really have a "supervisor." I wanted my supervisor to know why I was taking so much sick leave for pre-authorization appointments. My insurance carrier requires 6 months of nutrition counseling, pulmonology, cardiology, and psychiatric consults. So it's a lot of time off work over the a 6-month period. I'll probably tell some people at my job after the surgery, but not a lot. Best of luck with everything!

    Things I'm looking forward to

There's so much that I don't even know where to begin! Shopping for clothes I love and not just what fits Running again No joint pain No diabetes Having energy Fitting in with people at work Not worrying if there is seating that will accommodate my weight Flying comfortably on an airplane Dating without feeling self-conscious about my weight Walking at work without being out of breath
  7. I have to have an EGD, EKG, stress test, sleep study, and psych evaluation.

    Another test in the bag

Great, Shelli! Sounds like you are well on your way!

    Beginners journey

I'm also newer to the process. I've completed an initial consultation, cardiologist visit (had stress test this week), and 2 of 6 nutrition appointments. I see the pulmonologist today. I also have a consultation with another surgeon in a couple of weeks. I want the sleeve. The first surgeon I met with suggested the duodenal switch, but I don't feel comfortable with the DS at all - he was ok with that. Best wishes on your journey!

    Going crazy!

You're not alone in how you feel! I felt the same way about the waiting. I started the process in July/August. I likely won't finish the insurance approval steps until February. Surprisingly, the time is going faster than I thought. Do you have a lot of pre-authorization things to do?

    Cardio clearance

Great job on losing 7 pounds! Best of luck with your stress test. I had mine this morning, but not on the treadmill. Did the nuclear medicine kind.
  12. Thanks so much for commenting! This was helpful. Best wishes on your journey
  13. Hi! I have a consultation scheduled for weight loss surgery at Johns Hopkins Univ. hospital. I know it's one of the best hospitals in the country, but I was wondering if anyone has or is planning to have their surgery with their bariatric team. If so, what were your thoughts? How did your consultation go? Thanks in advance!

    A sigh of relief

What a great birthday present to yourself!
  15. Next door in Delaware! Best of luck to you! I just started the process for approval last month. Where are you having your surgery?
  16. I told my close friends that I'm currently going through the process to get approved. I'm in a situation where my friends are very supportive. I've also told a few family members as well. I'm also very confident in my decision to go through WLS so that helps as well in telling people. I treat it more as an FYI rather than seeking approval or permission from friends and family.
  17. Are there any pre-op sleevers in Delaware? I'm a month in to the requirements for the approval process and have about five more to go. I have a great support system among friends and family, but also wouldn't mind connecting with others in the same boat as me right now. Thanks!
