If it helps any, i am only 2 weeks out and i am not having alot of trouble. I havent thrown up and i have no problem keeping liquids down. My only issues thus far are them vitamins!! They upset my stomach bad. And, at my 2 week i was told i was not eating ehlnough, my body was in starvation mode cause i couldnt get much down at a time. Now, i am to eat 6 small meals and have 2 Snacks if needed to get my 70 to 90 grams of Protein a day! Plus, all that Water :-) I get the water....still working on my meaals and Vitamins tho. :-) Also, just remember, everyone is different so your intake and others won't be the same:-) You've got this!! ♡

For the first few appointments I kept asking my surgeon if he'd actually performed the sleeve surgery.
He laughed and assured me that he had.
The restriction to your stomach (it's not a pouch.....just a small stomach.....drop the pouch term lest you get heckled severely 'round here.....terminology police will swoop down fast & furious to correct us.......and we even have a resident school marm who detests when we don't use proper line spacing and subject verb agreement.....I'm from the South....therefore she gives me a pass....be warned).
Seriously, though.....you'll not likely feel the restriction in it's most demanding state right now. Liquids and soft foods are what's on the menu at the beginning so as to allow your new stomach to heal properly.
Later on the restriction shows up and flexes it's muscles for you.
Allow yourself to heal and follow your plan. Everything will work out in due time.

Boxed bone broth comes in a bunch of flavors (like lemongrass), doesn't taste too bad and has a surprising amount of Protein. My honey boiled a Parmesan rind and a clove of garlic into some plain, then strained it really well and stirred in some hydrolized collagen powder for extra Protein. It was surprisingly tasty and easy to drink.
I did fairly well the first couple of days, but now it's getting harder. Possibly because one of our beloved cats escaped from the house and we can't find him. Probably doesn't help I cut back on pain meds.
Let's see. I've been using the Ultima stevia sweetened electrolyte packets in my Water - when my electrolyte levels are off, everything tastes nasty. I've also liked iced herbal teas with chamomile and mint. I've also had protein Jello and the SF popsicles. My surgeon is having me steer clear of Multivitamins for another week so they don't upset my stomach.
As for Premier, I think that one has lactose, right? Which is to say I can sort of tolerate it usually, but not at all right now as a post op. Consider trying lactose free for a few week? And/or being liberal with the Gas-x strips and Probiotics. I usually tolerate the Syntrax nectar fairly well; I mix it with Water or almond milk and thin it down.

i know a man who has regained 100 lbs. when I see him eat, his plate is full of mashed potatoes, gravy, Mac and cheese, and fried foods. He had no intention of giving up these foods. I could eat like that, and whether the sleeve stretches or the foods slide on through, it doesn't matter. You can still eat yourself right back to where you started, or more. Depends on what you want to do with your life. I just cannot imagine going back to that place.

The whole protein/liquid thing has been a challenge for me. I an 4 days in and can tolerate sips of Water and popsicles but everything else makes me feel queasy. I try to get in a few ounces of Protein shake in the morning and had a Multivitamin this morning, but then my stomach just gargles for hours. Going to buy some unflavored powder today to see if I can add it to something else. Premier choc and unjury chicken were my go tos for my pre-open diet and now I can barely gag them down. Getting frustrated that I am doing so poorly at this post-op stuff.

I am at the same stage as you post op and I was soooo sick of the premier Protein shakes too!
My NUT suggested shamrock farms rockin refuel (the lower sugar one) it is 30g Protein per bottle - I like vanilla (I add a pinch of cinnamon too). I get these at Safeway & Walmart they are in the fridge near the milk (they come cold).
My NUT also gave the option of Slimfast - but you have to make sure it's the lower carb 20grams protein per bottle, there are a couple different versions of the premade so I have to check the label every time as some of the other versions are not so great as far as keeping low carb. I love the strawberry one and the vanilla is ok too.
I now rotate the Premier Protein, shamrock farms & slimfast (I'm still in liquids) and this has helped me a lot.
I do have an unflavored Protein powder also, but I can't take in much volume so the premixed shakes are more economical at this time because I can put them back in the fridge. Putting the Protein Powder once it's mixed in Water or milk back in the fridge just doesn't work for me (it's yucky).

    @@chicken Lady,
It is kind of you to be concerned and to reach out. 11-year-old girls are very tricky! They gain weight, and most of that weight is fat. I would take a wait-and-see approach, especially if she has healthy habits such as enjoying physical activities and basically eating healthy. If she doesn’t have healthy habits, maybe her mother can encourage a few behavior changes, such as taking carrots instead of Cookies for an afterschool snack, or enrolling her in a dance class.
If you and her mother really suspect that she has endocrine problems, her mother needs to handle it, but carefully. Rather than saying “we’re going to the doctor to find out why you’re gaining so much weight,” she needs to phrase it more as going for a checkup to make sure everything’s good.
Whatever you (and of course, her mother) do, I would be extremely wary about her feelings. If she thinks you or her mother or anyone she respects thinks she’s fat, she might become fat just to cope. Or she might develop an eating disorder.
It is hard watching someone you care about possibly go in the direction of developing weight problems, especially when you know personally how much they can take over your life, but 11-year-old girls are very delicate, and their feelings need to come first at this stage in their development.

I think it's lovely that you are trying to help your friend. I'm envious - I don't have any friends who are close enough to me or my children to take the time to help with anything.
This may or may not be relevant, but I grew up with parents who had extremely healthy strict eating habits & a very active family (we were at sports every day of the week). To this day, my mom has never even been through a drive thru or never had a sip of soda. Around the time I was maybe 12, I started to resent the strict food routine and I would overeat any junk food I could get my hands on at school through my friends and I started to gain weight quickly because I had never really eaten that sort of food my body just went "wtf?" And I gained weight FAST. My parents had no idea what was going on & I'm close to both of them so this is not resentful.
They were just so strictly healthy they didn't consider for a moment that I would get my hands on rubbish! I went on to develop an eating disorder for the remainder of high school (starving myself) so things kind of swung back the other way.
I'm not in any way offering criticism, I just know that as a tween and then teen who had eating disorders (overeating and then the opposite) we can hide the behavior extremely well from our parents & loved ones. This might be worth considering alongside all the physical and hormonal investigations?
I hope you can all get to the bottom of things. This young lady sounds like she has wonderful support so I am sure you will all figure it out. Goodluck

Thanks for your reply, glad that im not the only one. I feel so upside down! I don't have a lot of family support (they live in another country) and not many friends close by....I underestimated how lonely I would feel at this point. Im really not good at asking for help or showing vulnerability so I'm hoping I can find help at the support group....or on here

I am loving this thread! I was sleeved on 09/21 and I can relate to just about everything everyone is saying here!! Except for you lucky people who didn't get the pain or nausea...I wish that was me
I felt like I was really prepared for everything going into surgery - a proper know it all! I was even reading some of the posts of people in this thread last week before my surgery thinking: "how on earth could they feel regret and misery? Surgery will be wonderful!" ....haha well, I learnt the hard way that it's not always smooth sailing!
I still believe knowledge is power going into surgery, but it can be much harder initially to deal with....I'm still in the "initially" phase (getting better).
I haven't even attempted Vitamins yet, just grateful to get fluids down!! So grateful for the support of the forums

I'm dropping pounds left and right, I took my last blood-thinner shot yesterday, and they moved my diet up to mushies.
Can we talk for a second about that.
I want to introduce you to my Lord and Savior Scrambled cheese eggs. They came back into my life last night and my eyes were opened to the Beauty and Joy that is Life. Angels sang, cherubs fired arrows, unicorns f*cked to Barry White songs, and Everything Was Right and Good in the world.

The forum is great.....but.......maybe a little too impersonal and generic to get properly motivated.
After you do some basic research.....Find a Surgeon's or local Hospital's Bariatric seminar and GO TO IT> Put the date and time in your phone.......set aside the time and GO!!!!!!!!!!!
Don't procrastinate or make excuses.....GO. Once you do, it will get real and personal. You will finally have taken a step to actually change things. They will give you steps to proceed and one by one you will check them off making it more and more a reality. What may start as only an occasional thought in passing will quickly become a totally new life.
But you have to GO. Don't put it off. Don't do it later or the next time. Do it NOW.

I am not living the life I want to live..so I am here to learn and see what options there are.

@@southernsass Welcome! The best thing you can do is contact your insurance plan to determine if you have coverage for weight loss surgery and what the requirements are. Find a Center of Excellence in your area and call them to find out what steps you have to take - usually they have a seminar to learn about the different surgeries, etc. You will then have an idea of how to start your journey to weight loss surgery!
    Good luck!

I have the same insurance & I just had to weigh in once a month (didn't matter what day of the month) but had to lose weight at each appointment for 6 months.
I had my surgery approved, but it's "shared responsibility" - so UHC will cover 80% of the surgery. On the day of my surgery (21st September) I have to pay the remainder which is going to be around $2600. This is for the gastric sleeve.
No one told me about the payment even after my surgery was approved - I had to make 100 phone calls to find out for sure and then 100 more to get the amount I need to pay the day of surgery.
    Goodluck with everything
