    September 22 sleever

My surgery is sep 21 & I'm doing the clear liquid diet...it's hard - mentally & physically - but I keep telling myself: "this too shall pass!" And I'm focusing on the end goal. Getting support from others is helping, we can all struggle through it together! Sent from my iPod touch using the BariatricPal App
  2. It is totally a bit harder than I thought it was going to be, mostly because of the headaches. Im HOPING it's easier today...I actually feel a bit better this morning. I took Tylenol PM last night to deal with the headache & sleep. I'm interested to hear what your nurse says. WE CAN DO THIS Sent from my iPod touch using the BariatricPal App

5 days post op and I'm hungry!

I think different countries have very different nutrition plans post-op. I know the plans in Europe are very different to here in the USA and it sounds like Mexico is quite different also. The nutrition plans can vary so much between surgeons! I think it's quite confusing & confronting when someone has had one plan drilled into them to hear of another plan which basically contradicts what we have learnt. Different doesn't necessarily mean better or worse, I think it's actually really useful to hear of all the different nutrition plans, especially if something on our plan is really not working for us. Under BMI

I am having surgery on the 21st of September & I have lost 50 pounds since my initial weigh in. My insurance required weightloss every single month for 6 months (weighing in once a month). If you gain weight or don't lose the 6 months starts over!! This didn't happen to me but I know other people who had to start over. At my initial weigh in my BMI was JUST 40. My current BMI is 33...it will probably drop down another point before surgery because of the clear liquid diet I'm currently on. So for me, it was just the very first weigh in that I needed to have a BMI of 40 (I have no health probs or it would be 35) for insurance approval. Every other weigh in I was required to lose weight. I am with united healthcare and with approval they are covering 80% of my gastric sleeve surgery. I will be out of pocket around $2600 but I knew that before the approval so we planned for it. Who to tell?

I told everyone close to me (friends family etc) that I was doing a medically supervised weightloss program (true. I had to do 6 months for insurance purposes) I just left out the surgery part (which I haven't had yet). My husband & parents know - everyone else just thinks I'm on a "diet". After I have the surgery I will tell people if they ask. Sent from my iPod touch using the BariatricPal App

    Under BMI

I have heard of people wearing ankle weights under their clothes or in pockets if they are just short of the bmi cut off for insurance purposes at the initial weigh in. At the very first seminar I went to at my clinic, the surgeons said if you had a bmi of 39 + but not quite 40 they would weigh us holding our hand bags. This ended up happening to me Sent from my iPod touch using the BariatricPal App

5 days post op and I'm hungry!

This has been an extremely helpful thread! I am getting sleeved on 09/21 and I'm currently doing the 2 week clear liquid pre-op diet (and struggling a bit!). It's been really helpful reading all the comments here regarding the liquid part afterwards - thanks all Sent from my iPod touch using the BariatricPal App
  19. Hi all, I'm getting my surgery on 09/21/2016 and I have a question about Vitamins. I've tried so many chewable, liquid and dissolvable vitamins over the past 7 months and they all upset my stomach (like - sprint to the bathroom stomach issues!) So I've just switched back to regular vitamins in a tablet form but I know I won't be able to take these whole after the surgery. I have to take the Multivitamin and Calcium citrate and I've started crushing and dissolving them in Powerade Zero in the hopes that I can continue to take them this was post surgery. My question is has anyone else had trouble with the chewables etc and ended up just crushing regular vitamins? I have a pre-surgery appointment next week so I will obviously ask my NUT at that time but I'm just interested to hear if anyone else has been in this situation (pre or post op) Thanks Sent from my iPod touch using the BariatricPal App
