  1. Hi everyone, I've been on this site for about six months now, but I've never interacted much. Having said that, every one of you have greatly helping me in making a decision about surgery. Original bypass was scheduled for June 21, but due to unforeseen circumstances, postponed until July 12th. Was really having second thoughts, simply because of all of the negativity from family and friends. I've finally decided to do what's right for me, after many late nights of watching videos and reading all of your stories. I start my pre-op on Wednesday, so I stocked up on yogurt, sugar free Jello, Premier Protein drinks, and unflavored Protein Powder. So, any ideas what I can do with the unflavored powder? I added it to Water, with a few drops of Mio, and it coagulated, forming a type of chewing gum! Was actually kind of disturbing. So I need some ideas on how to use this powder... Any suggestions? Thanks everyone, for being my support system, without even realize you were doing it

  2. There is an app called bariatric timer that reminds you when to eat and drink. It also lets you know when it's ok to drink again after eating and vice versa. Has a journal/daily log with a changeable clock for food entries. I just purchased a Garmin vivofit 2, heard a lot good things about it, and it yells at you when you don't exercise enough haha

  3. Not trying to be rude but........Thanks for the nutritional facts but that wasn't what I was inquiring about. It was a grab and go snack on my way to work. It's on my diet plan that my NUT provided, so please keep opinions out of it. Thank you.

Eeeeek! So you don't want real advice that pertains to your questions? You'd prefer limited validation? You might want to block me now to relieve and undue stress I might cause! ;)
@ LipstickLady Ok, so this is like the 10th post I've seen from you and each one makes me lol. I can't wait until I'm on the other side and hope to get a ton of feedback from everyone. You alone though, may be the driving force that keeps me on track. Keep it real :)

I was told it was perfectly fine, as long as there is no sugar added to the almond milk. Just make sure you add up the Protein in the milk to the Protein in your powder to get an exact total.

As for OJ- there is a lot of sugar in it- I would personally avoid it- I wouldn't want the calories nor the possibility of dumping.

Thank you, so relieved to hear that. Can't tolerate milk.

I use unsweetened almond (or cashew) milk in my shakes all the time - and have since day 1. Just make sure it's the unsweetened kind.

Thank you for the advice :)

  5. I'm uneasy about the fact that there will be metal staples in my body. I'm afraid that my family won't support me when they find out what I've done. I haven't told anyone but my children and husband. I'm afraid of my sisters feelings. She is morbidly morbidly obese and often cries and talks to me about her weight.

I feel the same way when it comes to my family, but many sister and brother got the "skinny genes" agoso they have no idea what or feels like to be overweight. A personal question...instead of fearing what your sister will say, have you considered talking to her about going on this journey with you? Losing weight together might be a wonderful bond for the two of you to share.

I admire all of you for being so honest on your fears. I had plenty of the myself but also did not allow myself months to think about it. I had vsg on Oct 15, 2014. So a little over 4 months ago. I was never worried about the surgery or recovery itself. Which for me, was a breeze. I went back to work also 5 days later with very little pain. My biggest fears were a lot like Lexi. I was worried about my relationship with food. How sad that I can't eat everything on my plate anymore? That's how I felt. And trust me, I went overboard having my last meal! I gained 8 pounds in like 2 weeks. That's scary! And honestly, I was a bit depressed for the 1st month after surgery. I was losing weight quickly but the diet was hard after. Well I take that back...you have no true appetite. It was my head hunger that got me. I almost mourned my relationship with food. But once I got my energy back and lost that first 30 pounds.... my life changed forever. I still have people look at me and make comments about how sad that I can't eat more than that or that I really don't desire any food anymore, but honestly I am fine with it! I am not sorry one bit! 4 months out and 80 pounds down makes it so worth it.

One of our biggest reasons for me getting the surgery was to have children. We have been trying for 6 years, went through fertility treatments and nothing. Neither one of us have anything wrong, besides PCOS, to not be able to conceive. After a lot of talking it was suggested that possibly losing weight will help. So my biggest fear at this time is that, yes I am getting healthier, but what if I still can't get pregnant? That is devastating to me.

But all we can do is keep on taking care of ourselves!!

  6. I'm a little over a year out and I drink a premier Protein shake every day, sometimes cut with fairlife milk. I have very little appetite and in the morning I simply can't eat anything solid without feeling pretty sick. I'm perfectly healthy and doing just fine, but I know that I would not be getting enough nutrition without my daily shake. :)

    Hi,

I'm just wondering if it's ok to use almond milk instead of regular milk when making shakes. And what about orange juice with vanilla Protein powder? I'm just kind of planning ahead :)

  7. I was so glad to find this thread. I just got the approval from my doctor to stay the process. My first supervised weight loss class is this Thursday. I haven't been able to find much about University hospital or the doctors who perform the surgery. This sets my mind at ease as I'm not exactly sure what to expect going forward. For example, I know what my insurance requires, but what is the time frame for approval? Is it after I meet with the surgeon? Or at the end of the six months of weight loss classes? Any comments and/or advice will be greatly appreciated.

  8. What exactly is the 3-6 month nutritional counseling phase? What exactly is the point of it? Are they trying to see if you can lose weight on your own? Or are they trying to see if you have the ability to follow a program since you will have to after surgery? Just wondering. I have not met with anybody yet about surgery. My appointment with my PCM is on September 6th.

    Hi NOVAMOM348,

I'm so glad you asked that question because I was wondering the same thing. I've been reading different posts in the forum for a few days now, but this is my first time posting. I have my first supervised weight loss class this coming Thursday, and even though I know the topic will be Vitamins, I'm not sure what to expect. After 2 years, I was able to get my Dr. to recommend bariatric surgery, and I couldn't be more excited, but it seems like such a long wait, when at the end I'm not even sure if my insurance will approve it. This forum has helped me so much, just reading the stories and experiences, and I look forward to making some new friends on my journey to a new live.
