  1. I think in my whole life, I have stepped into a gym 1time. I saw everyone working out, doing things I feel like I'll never be able to do. I kinda ran away. So I live in Maine and like it or not, snow will come. I've been power walking 40min every AM...but once it snows, the roads out here are dangerous to walk on. So, my only choice to keep myself on this path is to join a gym. There is one about 20min away and tomorrow I have an appointment to check it out and them check me out. I am feeling very nervous and kinda freaked. I don't want to be stared at...feel like the fat lady in the room...and I have no coordination and worry I'll look like a dork. I don't even have "gym clothes"! How can I keep myself from running in the opposite direction!?! Sent from my XT1650 using the BariatricPal App

    Newbie to gyms. Freaking out!

    The 20 min ride is no biggie...I live so far in the woods, 20 min rides don't slow me down. Today I did my walk outside, holy moly...winter is coming...seeing my breath as I huffed and puffed was a motivator... tomorrow I will be at the gym...no more cold freaking morning walks. Thanks for all the support and advice. I'm feeling excited about this...now that the owner has shown me every piece of equipment in the gym AND had me try it out, so I know how to use it...now I don't feel like a bull in a China shop.   4. I'm a gym newbie. I just stepped on the treadmill for the first time. The owner showed me how to use everything, but I look so ridiculous on the machines, I feel those eyes on me. I know I have to face this fear, but it doesn't mean I don't feel it. It's getting cold and my options are getting limited. We can do this, we gotta do what must be done. Next time you feel those eyes, remember, other people feel just like we do. Don't let this stop you. I'm not. I know you won't either.     Newbie to gyms. Freaking out!

    Update- went to the gym. Owner is a sweetheart, started talking and I did tell her about my sleeve surgery. She was great, no judgement at all. She showed me all the equipment, though we skipped the heavyweight room. She showed me a workout which would help build muscle, but also work on weight loss. I joined the gym...it has what I need, but is a smaller gym, 24hr and has a family feel. I can start next week...wow! Sent from my XT1650 using the BariatricPal App

    Grazing

    I grazed last night.... After dinner I had a snack, just veggies...but then later I ate a little more....then a little later I ate more. Cucumbers and tomatoes...and a few Edamame...but even healthy food, it was still grazing. Grazing is a hard habit to break, an old habit to break. Frustrated with myself and of course the fear I'm stretching out my little tummy hits me too. Today is a new day, right? Try harder tonight to control this.     Ok...build muscle and cardio...I can do this. Tomorrow I go talk to the owner and find out what is available. I'm nervous, but it's a small family run gym. It tends to not get overly busy.     Bufflehead- thanks for the advice and support. You mentioned some really good points about not talking about weight loss surgery. I'll definitely keep those points in mind.   20. I'm 2.5 months and I'm starting to shed like crazy and the nails are a problem too. My dr says it's all part of the journey. I like the idea of a new hairstyle to help feel more confident. It's going to come back, but it does suck. Big time. Sent from my XT1650 using the BariatricPal App

    Did you lose proportionately ?

    For me it seems like my boobs are going first. But I think mostly it depends on how you exercise. I am new to the world of exercise, so right now I'm power walking, so my lower half of my body is changing first. I'm going to start at the gym soon and the woman that owns it says she is going to help me come up with a program that helps with all over weight loss. Maybe that's an idea you could check out.     Menstration and weight gain

    That is exactly what happens to me, my period hits and I gain 3 to 5#s...it freaks me out when I see it on the scale, but it does go away. Eventually. I follow the program, but this does stress me out. Hang in there. Sent from my XT1650 using the BariatricPal App

    Can only digest sweets!

    Low blood sugars is a problem for my hubby, who used to have diabetes and due to Surgery it's almost cured. He is a month and 1/2 out and his sugars are still a little up and down. When they drop he needs a little sugar to feel better. OJ is his go to. Once he does this, things even out and he can eat, drink and go on with his day. It is improving as time goes on slowly. Could this be anything like you've experienced?? Keep experimenting with different foods, don't give up. Don't be afraid to ask other drs for their opinions.     Snacks other than protein drink

    I love cottage cheese and salsa too. Everyone thinks I'm nuts! Those 110 calories jerky packs are great to take when on the run...I try to eat protein at meals, so I get veggies in. My body needs fiber. Baby cucumbers and cherry tomatoes are my go to. I love babybel cheese, Greek yogurt, 100 calories nut packs and hummus. Sent from my XT1650 using the BariatricPal App

    Help!

    It's so hard...I am seeing a counselor and it helps. I'm learning new coping skills...slowly. it's a battle we face, harder on some of us than others.
