Came home from a bar to find this. LMAO!! It's 1.08am for me right now and was out watching burlesk dancing at a shelter dog charity function, yes, at a bar.
@@Dub would be jealous, but unfortunately they ran out of all the good beer ????
Since I'm still pre-op and not on a a real diet yet, doesn't beer count as liquid diet though?!? ????????????

I love this silly humor, really. I do remember being a Newbie, and I did not understand it like I learned to, with great people who lighten my day. Please stay, ask someone in private if you should eat a taco or pork chop, because if you have to ask you know damn well you shouldn't eat it. Maybe a better idea is call the ER and ask a nurse on call if you can eat a taco or pork chop! LAUGH like there's no tomorrow!!!

There is a reason why it's a good idea to diet before your sugery. Learn to read the labels. Use an app if counting is too difficult. Don't try to get people to agree to your bad choices, mess yourself up if you want, but please don't let others get bad influences from you. If more than one person tries to tell you that you are doing something wrong/stupid, it might be a good idea to listen and think again.
    Thanks.
Here is a true story from my dieting life:
My first nut, some years ago, when I first realized I need help, was like a late night show:
Nut: (looking at her computer) Here are some pamphelts...
I: (suprised to see the nut is bigger than me) Thanks, but I need real advice.
Nut: (still looking at the computer) Read the pamphelts.
I: (getting annoyed, try to shock her into looking at me) I eat icecream every evening, is that ok? (I didn't and I don't, but needed a reaction)
Nut: (still looking at the computer) That's good, you are getting some Vitamins D and Calcium.
I leave the room, never to return...
My current nut is way, way better ????

LOL. I lost 102 lbs in the first 4 months. But just for the record, I did it being 99.99% compliant with my doctors instructions (ok, so I did have a couple of potatoes chips once or twice). I wouldn't consider it a "prisoner of war" diet. But your comment did make me laugh.

If any more successful people stop posting or detach we may as well hang it up! I don't want advice from someone who thinks it is okay to have a Big Mac the day before surgery. This is our lives we are talking about! If I eat a steak a week post-op - I want a kick in the ass! I don't want the "that's okay - nothing bad will happen - stop listening to the naysayers"! I am not going through this to risk my life for chicken fingers and fries! It's not even about those that messed up or "cheated" as much as it is about people telling them it's okay (and telling others that may be having trouble that they can do it too)! We've lost too many people who could really help us.

    Hello Everyone!
I figured it was time to join a forum because I'm sure I'm driving my friends crazy with all the VSG talk! Anywho, my name is Erin and I am 32. After many years of struggling with my weight decided to look into the VSG on July 28th. On that day I quit smoking (cold turkey), quit drinking alcohol, and coffee! I attended my first seminar on Aug 8th and it made me feel like this is definitely the right decision for me. Thankfully my family and friends are all very supportive so it helps. I have my first appointment with my surgeon on August 26 to go over the insurance and surgery requirements. I don't think I have any cormobidies but my BMI is 45.
Today I went to get a check up with my PCP and am scheduled for an ultrasound due to some stomach pain I have been having. He is worried it may be my spleen. I'm hoping it is nothing that will hinder me getting my surgery. I asked my PCP how he felt about wls and he is absolutely against it. He said he would rather me try medication to curb my appitite, because in his experience wls patients gain the weight back. I think I need a new PCP. Luckily my surgery program said they will write the letter of medical necessity for the insurance approval if I am a good candidate.
I am very excited to meet with the surgeon and finally get the ball rolling. My plan is to get that checklist completed ASAP so I can be one step closer to a healthier version of myself!
    Thanks for reading my story!

mrsNilla reacted to Inner Surfer Girl in Embrace the Stall
It seems that at least 50% of the posts on BariatriPal are bemoaning a stall. Daily, and sometimes hourly, I am reading about how someone ONLY lost x number of pounds and now the scale hasn't moved in ___ [fill in the blank] days/months, etc. Oh no, they write, I am a failure/unique/my surgery didn't work/life is not fair, ... Why am I in a stall?
I know I am exaggerating but I think you get the idea.
Guess what? STALLS are a NORMAL part of the PROCESS of losing weight. If you want to lose weight, you will stall. Not just once, but over and over. And, guess what? A stall is where your body actually does the hard work of becoming smaller. It takes a lot of work and energy to dismantle a structure that has been holding up, in some cases, hundreds of pounds.
For those who think they have to DO something to somehow "break a stall" (in my opinion, you do not break a stall, you just ride them out), here is my response:
What can you do to "break" a stall?
    1) STAY OFF THE SCALE
Relax and stay off the scale if it bothers you so much. Weigh no more than once a week, or even less often. Weighing only at your doctor's appointments early in the process is a good strategy if your mood and self-worth are dictated by the numbers on the scale.
    2) PICK UP A TAPE MEASURE
In addition to using the numbers on the scale to measure your progress, take your measurements. Inches lost are also a great way to see physical progress when the scale isn't moving. Most people see the biggest physical changes in their body when the scale seems stuck.
    3) TRACK YOUR Protein AND Water AND MEET OR EXCEED YOUR PROTEIN AND WATER GOAL EVERY DAY
As long as you are getting in all your protein and water and following your NUT and surgeon's instructions, you are doing what you are supposed to do.
If you aren't getting in all your protein and water, then increasing your protein and water is something you can do (and should be doing anyway whether or not you are in a stall).
    4) EXERCISE
If you aren't exercising, then you can exercise (and should be whether or not you are in a stall). You can start slowly by walking or even moving more around the house. Exercising will help you feel better, tone your skin and build fat-burning muscle.
    5) MAKE AN APPOINTMENT WITH YOUR NUT
If you are unsure or unclear about what you are supposed to be, or should not be eating, then make an appointment with your NUT (which you should be doing whether or not you are in a stall).
    6) REASSESS AND REEVALUATE
About the only good result I see that comes from complaining about a stall is when you take an honest look at what you are doing and realign with the program recommended by your NUT and surgeon. Have you started eating more outside of your plan? Are you restricting calories? Are you eating enough carbs and protein for your exercise? Are you taking your Vitamins? Are you eating often enough? Are you eating slowly with protein first? Sometimes, all you need to DO is go back to basics.
    7) JOURNAL
One of the biggest things I have noticed from the various posts is how anxious and out-of-control some people feel when they notice a stall. Journaling can help you gain some perspective and deal with some of the emotional turmoil.
-- Write about how you are feeling about the stall and your weight loss, and surgery in general.
-- Write about why you had the surgery in the first place.
-- Write about what life was like before surgery.
-- Write about what you hope and dream about accomplishing in the future.
    -- Write about your fears.
    -- Write about your NSVs.
    -- Make a gratitude list.
    -- Make a bucket list.
-- Write a letter to your old self; write a letter to your new self.
    Just write.
    8) SEEK HELP
Stalls are when too many people seem to revert to old, counterproductive dieting behaviors (restricting calories, over exercising, bingeing, etc.). If this is you, then another thing you can DO is to talk to a counselor or therapist or consider joining a bariatric support group or a twelve-step group like Overeater's Anonymous.
The discomfort of being in a stall can also drive people to develop new, unhealthy coping habits or even transfer addictions. This is where you want to marshall all the resources you have available to you and use them.
The last, and most important thing you can DO is:
    9) EMBRACE THE STALL
Stalls are a normal and natural part of the process.
Our bodies are complex systems and not simple machines.
Stalls go hand-in-hand with weight loss.
If you had Weight Loss Surgery, then you probably want to lose a significant amount of weight. So, get ready to embrace the many stalls you will experience as your body is transformed. It will be worth it.

Today went well. Scrambled eggs for Breakfast with a little salsa. Couldn't eat anything they were serving for lunch so I walked across the street to the hotel where I had brought a cooler full of things I could have. Had a couple bites of cottage cheese grabbed a Protein shake and headed back. For dinner we went as a group out to another seafood restaurant. This time I had a cup of clam chowder but didn't eat much of it, I also ordered an appetizer of shrimp cocktail to share with a coworker. They were bay shrimp so they are tiny. Didn't have but the equivalent to maybe four forks full of the shrimp and 1/3rd cup of the clam chowder. I feel absolutely stuffed. If I had it to do over I would probably forgo one or the other. Tracking all of my food and exercise in myfitnesspal. Did a two mile walk just before dinner so I'm feeling pretty confident in my food choices. Tomorrow is when I'm supposed to officially switch to "mechanically soft" foods. So some more options will open up for me.
Wish I was at home, I feel like I have better control when I'm home. Soon enough, just a day and a half left.
