    Pre-op diet cheats

There were a couple of times -both while on the phone - when I was making my kids dinner and popped something in my mouth without even thinking. Totally out of habit and being distracted. Sent from my SM-G928P using the BariatricPal App

    post op q's!

I think we need to be really careful about "you will" feel this or that. Everyone responds to this procedure so differently, it is impossible to say that. I had NO pain related to surgery, only my really bad back. (arthritis). I had no gas pain from this surgery. (14 major surgeries in the last 2 years, I am familiar. ) The day after discharge I was walking a mile on my treadmill. I'm day 7 now and have been walking 2 miles for a couple of day. I had to meet certain hydration goals before discharge. I was hungry from day 2 on. Your incisions should be completely closed (scabs gone and everything) by day 14. If they're not, see your doctor. Day 6, my animals - and my kids - are all over me without any problems.

    What to bring too hospital

I could never bring enough pillows. LOL I used about 10 of the hospitals. I brought my phone w/charger. "soft clothes" to wear home (soft leggings and a sweatshirt) tooth brush and tooth paste. My cpap (they supply the distilled water)

    Puréed and soft foods

See? I wish all the doctors would say this same thing! I specifically asked about poached eggs, since they're a favorite of mine, and was told no uncooked yolk. ......sigh..... Frustrating. I will probably just cook them a tiny bit more to bring the temp up without cooking though, then mix them with cottage cheese or something.

    post op q's!

    1) I had NO pain from the surgery. NONE! Possibly because it was overshadowed by HORRIBLE back pain. My back is full of arthritis and I can't do hospital beds. I have had 14 major surgeries in the last 2 1/2 years and my back just gets worse and worse after each one. Anyway, the first thing I remember after surgery is waking up to HORRID back pain and instantly getting off the bed to stand up to end the pain. Needless to say, this sent the nurse and my S/O into a panic. Decided I would go to the bathroom while I was up. (they weren't happy with me.) Then I was moved to a recliner, crammed pillows all around me, and slept sound for the next 4 hours. Woke to look at the clock and told my S/O to go home. No use staring at me sleeping when we have a house full of kids at home. 2) The morning after surgery I felt a bit stiff, as if I had been doing sit ups when I wasn't used to that. Nothing bad. Offered Dilauded but taking only Tylenol at that point. 3) The nurse brought in sixty, 1 oz medication cups, stacked upright. I was to sip one every 15 minutes (when awake) and stack them upside down so it was easy to see how much I had drank, and how much I still needed to drink. I'm still doing this at home 5 days out. 4) No. No. and more no. I have 6 kids at home, all with disabilities. They cannot climb on me. No. 5) My weight the day I started the pre-op diet was 212. Surgery day was 204. Today on day 5 post-op I am 197. 6) Now that I have *finally* pooped, I feel about 90%. 7) I have had no real issues other than being constipated. Again, once I was able to go, life is good. The head hunger is the worst part for me. I really want to TASTE all the stuff! And I made christmas Cookies with my kids today. Killer!!! 8) The first 3 nights I was only able to sleep on my back. The last two nights I've been on my sides. (I haven't been able to tummy sleep since I had breast cancer and its required surgeries 2 1/2 years ago.) I tried it once a few weeks ago and thought I would suffocate. LOL 9) It is HARD. If I didn't have kids in the house who need to eat meals maybe it would be easier? Last night I was at a restaurant with friends (planned months ago and unable to cancel) and it was HARD, but I did it. I am having a hard time getting my Water in. Finally set alarms on my phone to drink so today is a bit better. 10) Probably but not for a couple of months. And it won't ALL fall out (I did that with chemo, liked myself better bald! LOL) just get thin. I have been taking Biotin for the the last 2 1/2 years because my hair is thin on a good day. Hoping that helps a bit. I'll start it back up again in a couple of weeks.

Did they send you home with a list? I'm still on clear liquids but drool over my list of purees constantly. LOL

    Women - losing hair?

I have been on Biotin since I my last round of chemo 2 1/2 years ago. I have had no problems with unwanted hair growth.
  9. This is so crazy to me. I have eagerly looked at everyone's weight loss timelines, believing while at the same time wondering, how it could possibly be? And here I am! Starting weight 212 Surgery day 204 Curren 197 My husband said this morning, "Wow! Your face looks thinner today!" My mom didn't know I was having surgery. The day I started the pre-op diet I dropped her off at the airport. I'll be picking her up on Tuesday, curious to see if she notices enough to say anything. Its only been a few days, but giving my kids meals is getting easier. Last night I was at a restaurant with friends (an event planned months ago, before I had a surgery date) and I survived watching them eat. Got myself the house chicken noodle Soup and just ate the broth. Today is cooking baking day with my kids. That should be interesting. I anticipate frequent breaks. LOL

    Women - losing hair?

I went through chemo 2 1/2 years ago. I learned I liked my head better bald than with hair! LOL I thought about shaving my head prior to my sleeve surgery but my partner didn't want me to. Instead I went back to very very short.
  11. I have 6 kids with Down syndrome, three of them have Autism. Only two can really understand whats up. However, I had breast cancer 2 years ago so they're all kind of "used" to me being down for a couple of days. All I told mine was "Mom is going to have surgery to fix her tummy." That's it. I didn't say anything about "hurt" or "pain", because that would freak my kids out. I have one "crasher" who loves to crash into me. I wore my corset thing outside of my clothes the first couple of days home. That helped her remember she could not crash into me. I did show my two with the most understanding that I have small incisions. (one of them, the girl, saw all my breast reconstruction wounds, plus has had major liver surgery so this was nothing to her. Look up liver transplant incisions and that is what hers looked like.) I just say things very matter of factly, don't describe anything that doesn't need to be described.
  12. I would suggest meeting with your bariatric psychologist. You need to get to the bottom of why you self-sabatoge. You have all kinds of tools available to you: your sleeve, dietician, psychologist...use them to keep you on the success side. Hang in there!

4 days post op no restriction

I was sleeved on 12/7. Like you I feel no restriction. I do feel satisfied -not full but satisfied, which is what we should be feeling - with a Protein shake. tysleeves, you're eating sausages? You need to allow your staple line time to heal! Your stomach has to work a lot harder to digest solid foods, which will stress the staple line. When did your surgeon say to go back to solid foods?

    Feeding Family

I was sleeved on 12/7. Tonight was the first time I had to feed my kids. It was very difficult for me. All 6 of my kids at home are disabled, and 2 need help with eating. Givi g bites of mealtoaf and mashed potatoes about did me in! But I made it through. One day at a time. Have my sights on full liquids next week. Sent from my SM-G928P using the BariatricPal App

    December sleeves 2016

Sleeved on weds 12/7, home the next day. Walked a mile on my treadmill tonight. I have not had any pain, just some discomfort from the gas but nothing much. Had a terrible time dishing up dinner for my kids tonight. Meatloaf and mashed potatoes. Ugh!! Keeping my sights on those full liquids next week!! LOL Sent from my SM-G928P using the BariatricPal App
  18. Hi there! I was sleeved on Weds 12/7. Came home Thurs evening. I also had a long pre op program, going to the first informational meetin in March, then 6 mo with the dietician, psych assessment, etc. I finally got my insurance approval the end of Oct. How are you feeling now? My biggest problem in the hospital was back pain due to arthritis. Tonight I walked a mile in my treadmill. Trying to get past being head hungry!!!!! Tonight dishing up dinner for my kids - meatloaf and mashed potatoes- about did me in!! The only thing that kept me from taking a bite of those potatoes was knowing what would happen seconds later! This is the toughest stage for me so far. Sent from my SM-G928P using the BariatricPal App

    Sleeved today!

Congratulations! I was sleeved yesterday with a planned hiatal hernia repair. I have another abdominal hernia that he will repair in 6 mo. Sent from my SM-G928P using the BariatricPal App
  20. I was sleeved yesterday along with hiatal hernia repair. I have ZERO pain related to my surgery. No nausea. Nothing. What I do have is excruciating back pain that is absolutely positional. My back is full of chemo-induced arthritis . When they got me to my room my back spasmed and I came flying off the bed. I needed to stand up straight. This freaked the nurses out a little bit. I told them to get rid of the bed, I would just be in the recliner, which is where I've been ever since. My pain has never been above 3, and again thats my back, not anywhere else. I have had 14 surgeries in the last 2 years so maybe my pain threshold is a bit higher than typical. I also have a tendency to not be able to sleep after surgery so I accepted the dilauded knowing I would at least get to sleep. I go home this afternoon and resume life. It's been 8 months waiting for this, now lets get in with the show, shall we? Sent from my SM-G928P using the BariatricPal App
