    Calling All NURSES!!

ouch 4 on, that's hard, I'm usually pretty fried after 3 and sometimes even that is pushing it!! when I come back to Canada in approx 2 years my plan is to drop down to part time and then I'd only have to work 2 a week which would be RAD!! I also forgot, my other work snack is raspberries, it's a joke here as people know just how much I love them, last year that is what some of the nurses got me for my birthday. You too be safe driving home, luckily I live just a few miles from the hospital and being sunday there won't be traffic so I shold be home in approx 5 min

    Calling All NURSES!!

shannon, you got such a quick reply since i am at work too tonight just waiting to do my next ABG on my pt.
  3. If your young enough and your clothes are stylish, I take mine to buffalo exchange and/or plato's closet and sell them there, whatever they don't buy ( if it is too old or has any marks on it) they will donate to the local organizations for poor people so you don't have to drag anything back home.

    Calling All NURSES!!

hi shannon, here are some night shift Snacks that I use, oatmeal with raisins and milk, string cheese and an apple, yogurt and 1/4cup of kashi Cereal, 1oz of lime and chili almonds, a sugar free rice pudding cup with cinnamon sprinkled on it or some whole grain crackers with hummus, olive tapenade or tziziki (so not spelled correctly) on them. that's about it since I know what works for me at work and really don't vary it all that much, as for beverages I have 1/2 unsweetened tea and 1/2 lemonade, 1/4 pomegrante juice with sparkling Water and most of the fizz stirred out, a soy latte or sometimes a bottled starbucks drink. hope you got some ideas from these suggestions. good luck with your surgery!! we'll be looking forward to hear how you do.

    Hi, fellow thirty-somethings =)

here's my favourite recipe for mushies ( I did not even get that phase) that I still eat now and in fact just had before getting ready for work tonight, some refried beans (the roserita ones from the mexican section at the grocery) melt some shredded cheese over top in the micro for 1min and top with salsa, yummy......

I had my 1st fill the other day and after speaking with the doctor he said he anticipates I will be a size 4 when this is all done!! a size 4!! last time I was that little, was ummm never, I can't wait for the rest of this journey and to buy stuff from the front of the rack at banana republic instead of the back of it!!

    Ladies with large chests...

I wore an underwire from the clinic also, why would everyone in your support group give up their bras?

    New member from Montreal.

carvalho, you only have to not drink after eating for 30min not 2hrs, if it was that long then you would hardly have time to drink anything throughout the day. One of my little tricks is sometimes I have a popsicle after eating so it kind of feels like a drink, also on rare occ I would have a glass of wine while out with friends and such, the not drinking while eating was the hardest to get used to but now 5 weeks post op it is ok. I have to ask you though, where are you getting the surgery for 5000? My research was 16-21000 in Canada, 25 in the USA and 8000 in Mexico ( guess which one I chose) even with having to pay my own fills, there is alot of fills that can be done for 8000, also since I was a self pay there was no hoops to jump through, no psych consults or medically supervised diets etc...
  9. macmadam: the port does not get anchored to your stomach (the wall of your stomach would be inside your stomach so obviously that would not really work), it is anchored to your abdominal muscles.

    Denied My First Fill

I'm going to assume the "drinking water method" is what I just had done this week, the doc puts a fill in, gives you some water to drink and if you throw up, he removes some of the fill, otherwise see you in a few weeks and off you go.

    vaccination side effects

as much as both sides like to argue, there is no definitve proof that vaccines cause autism, a lot of the time I think that people are looking for someone or something to blame instead of just accepting that their child has a different normal. What should be noted is that preemie infants (the younger they are) are at increased risk for many potential issues.

    Hi, fellow thirty-somethings =)

Hi 30's, just found this thread tonight at work, I was banded 3/25 in Mexico by Dr. Ortiz, very happy with the changes so far, 1st fill was done today 5/1 and am down 25 since pre op and 59 total, what I'm having the hardest time with is the increased male attention, just taking a little bit more to adjust to then I thought it would!! So not complaining though. BBK, I had already planned to be a pin up girl when i get to goal, there's a photog here in seattle (where I currently live) that is his specialty, pretty stoked about doing it. BTW: I'm form Quebec, Canada and have lived here in the US for 9 years, pretty happy to see some 30's activity.
  13. hi nomoretwinkies, flight wise you should have no issues, my flight was no different than any other I've ever been on, wore comfortable clothing and flew from seattle to san diego, as for pj's, you could just wear the hospital gown that they put you in, I brought my own pj's and as soon as I was awake I changed into them, mainly cause that is just the way I am, I feel better in my own clothing with my own pillow (which I brought with me) and had some sandels that have a back on them but I had no pain so the bending etc was no issue for me. Good Luck, I was banded 3/25 by Dr. Ortiz in Tijuana.
  14. Hey,

I hear you on the 12 hour nights, it's the only shift I ever work and although I love it for the lack of families at my bedside (awful I know) and minimal extra staff around messing and stressing out my N-ICU pt, it is really hard at night, sometimes for the poor choices in food and sometimes cause you just don't think before you put that mini chocolate in your mouth (oops, that's me!!) here's a suggestion for you (one of my good nights) around 10p: almonds, or apple and string cheese, 1130: a starbucks bottle drink. 2am: dinner, usually a lean cusine or soup and raspberries&pudding (so I can have something sweet) that's usually it, I also sip on black tea and lemonade mixed throughout the night. I did just get my 1st fill today though so I may be cutting meals in half, we'll see. Just wanted to share what get's me through the night shift. oh and sometimes around 530 I have a yogurt cup but not always, depends on what i finished of my dinner.

    Embarrassing Question

As a nurse, I can assure you that we and the docs really could care less about your nakedness, it's part of the job and we have seen it all before, as phowell says, we're too busy talking about our weekends, families etc and doing our jobs to stand around gawking.
  16. it's called an ET tube (endotracheal tube) and even if you start to wake up before they have extubated you, you'll be so out of it that it will all be pretty hazy and you won't really be aware of what's happening.
  17. I had 3 weeks of full liquids post op and then could eat real food after that. The 3 week rule was if I could drink it I could have it but that did not mean milkshakes!! Soups, yogurts, popsicles, I took marinara and pasta, blended it and made it really runny, protein shakes etc... It was fine but boy was I ready for eat real food day!!

    Calling All NURSES!!

wow proudmaryrn, you do sound really bitter, that's too bad that you were involved in a lawsuit but really there are worse things in life so you should let the negative energy go about it, when you tell people not to go into nursing maybe you should start or end your statement with "i was in a lawsuit so I am kind of biased..."

afraid to give away "fat clothes"????

I just pulled out some of my clothes that were in storage so now its as though I have a whole new wardrobe and my 2 brand new pairs of size 12 jeans that are so so comfortable!! Anyway, I tried on everything I owned and if it was too big, then out it goes, so 4 bags of clothes went off to buffalo exchange yesterday and I got some money to put aside for newer smaller clothes. I say get rid of the big stuff, you don't need to hang onto clothes that your never going to wear again!!

    Calling All NURSES!!

Hiya, I'm Tara, a travel nurse from canada currently in Seattle for the last year, I've lived everywhere from South Carolina to Alaska over the 9 years I have been here, my current specialty is N-ICU, I have also worked in Labour and Delivery, PP and as a charge nurse on a Gyn/Uro floor, the next step for me is transport, specifically flight nursing or I am also very interested in outpost nursing when I return to Canada (which is working in the northern Inuit villages) I am also considering going back to school for a certificate NP in forensics, as you can see my interests are varied. nicunicu2000, which hospital are you at? One of my friends is from Boston and worked there for a few year. I'm a self pay that had surgery in Tijuana on 3/25 with Dr. Ortiz, it was a very positive experience and I would do it again in a heartbeat, I go for my 1st fill tomorrow so I am really looking forward to restriction that I had the 1st few weeks post op.
  21. hi brandy, just wanted to stop by and tell you that your puppy is adorable!!!

    A thread for Single Bandsters

Missy, I too am on my own right now, and am quite ok with it, I'm pretty busy taking classes, caring for my dogs, working full time and chillin with my peeps, I kind of fell like right now a boy would just take up too much of my time, enjoy your time on your own, it's better to wait for the right person than just being with someone so you don't have to be on your own. Athinnerdenise: plenty of the guys on the sites are not exactly serious about meeting the people they communicate with, don't take it personally, email with them but start to talk and then meet pretty quickly so you can see if they are really serious about dating in real life and not just online and so you can see if your really interested in them. Good luck to both of you!!
  24. abby, I am happy with my band so far, it is really only this last week that I have not had any restriction so i am off for my 1st fill on thursday, and am pretty excited for it since right now I want to chew off my arm!! I have to say I was wearing a tight 16 before surgery and now already my 12's are VERY comfortable, it's been so worth it for me, some things kind of suck like not drinking with eating although sometimes you just gotta have a sip of something!! so I usually have a popsicle after dinner so I can have the cold.

As for keeping yourself from you bad behaviors post op, you have to be aware of your choices, there are certainly moments where I am weak and will eat something and then say why did I do that, but instead of just carrying on with the free for all, I just tell myself that the next thing that goes in my mouth will be back on track. At the same time I am not willing to cut all the "bad treats" out, just to have them in moderation like someone who has a normal relationship with food.

Are you thinking you'll go self pay or via insurance if you decide to have the surgery?

    Tara
