  1. tried a new recipe tonight and it was so yummy and so far, easy on the stomach. Just moving on to soft foods and this is the first thing I made. I like it because my husband and I are finally being able to eat the same thing. Feels good to be able to make just one meal.

    Recipe:

2 lbs 93% lean ground beef

    1/2 cup Parmesan cheese (grated)

    1 cup Panko breadcrumbs

    2 eggs

    1/2 cup fairlife milk

1 - 2 tbsp Italian seasoning (to taste)

    Garlic (to taste)

8 oz. mozzarella cheese cut into cubes (put in freezer for 20 minutes prior to making)

Mix first 7 ingredients well and form into balls surrounding cheese cube. Bake at 375 degrees for 40 minutes. Serve with marinara sauce. Makes 17 meatballs. Each one has 150 calories, 16 grams Protein and 3 carbs.

  2. I am a Fitbit freak, owning a charge hr, charge hr 2, surge, one, blaze, and the aria scale. My personal favorite is the charge hr 2. It has breathing exercises and tells you how to improve your cardio. I love that I can link it to my fitness pal and have my food intake be automatically logged into my Fitbit app and my weight back to the my fitness pal app. I do challenges regularly with my friends. Love it!

  3. Tuesday, I will be three weeks post op. I am on the puréed portion of the diet and I am struggling today. Usually i am fine and don't really have many cravings. I don't really even feel hungry so I am sure this might be my first bout of head hunger but man do I want to eat something off plan. I won't do it, but it is the first time I really want to!!! I am not even sure what I want but if I had a Casey's pizza, I would really like it.

  4. @@Bufflehead - Totally get that. Those are really milestone weights. I am going to to Hawaii in February, Aruba in September and Branson in May. I don't get too worked up about not hitting a specific date but thought it would be interesting to see if I can come close. I know what you mean about getting frustrated though. Having lost weight several times before, I know what to expect with the stalls and the hard work it takes. I am more worried about keeping the weight off once I hit goal. That is usually where I fall off the wagon and fall hard!!!!

  5. Hello -

I am 13 days post op and I have been thinking about where I want to end up weight wise. i want to set a realistic weight loss goal but I am wondering what that actually means. I understand the average weight loss is anywhere between 60 to 65% of excess weight. What I am not sure is if this is after surgery or from your starting weight pre-op.

Also, after you have been carrying a lot of extra weight, does it make sense to think you can get to a normal BMI? Should falling into the overweight category be acceptable? I don't want to set myself up for disappointment but I also want to push myself to be better than average!!!

Right now, here is my plan.

    1 consult weight: 267

    Surgery weight: 242

    today's weight:227

December 27th: 215 (9weeks, -27 pounds from surgery weight, -52 pounds from start, 12 pounds to go)

February 14th:195 (7 weeks, -20 pounds from December weight, -72 pounds from start)

May 2nd: 185 (11 weeks, -15 pounds from February weight, -87 pounds from start)

July 4th: 170 (9 weeks, -10 pounds from May weight, -97 pounds from start)

September 5th: 160 (9 weeks, -10 pounds from July weight, -107 pounds from start)

October 24th: 155 (7 weeks, -5 pounds from September weight, -112 at 1 year surgery anniversary)

Honestly, I would be happy if I could get 170 or lower. I kind of feel 155 is unrealistic but I want to shoot for it. Am I crazy to think it is possible?

  6. Has anyone made this? I get to go to puréed foods on Tuesday and chicken salad is on my approved list. I don't like mayo so I thought this recipe might work. Recipe is:

    2 lb. chicken breast

    16 oz cream cheese

2 packets of ranch dressing mix powder

    8 slices bacon crumbled

Bake first three ingredients in crockpot for 6 hours, shred and mix in crumbled bacon.

A 4 oz serving is 20 grams Protein, 8 gr fat and 4 grams of carbs.

Now I doubt I can eat anywhere near four ounces early in but think this might be a good go to for me. Anyone else try this recipe?

  7. I was 242 and am down to 229 and sleeved the same day as you. I am taking in between 50-60 grams of Protein through fairlife milk, nsa carnation instant Breakfast, yogurt, and a little Soup. Walking 5 miles per day and can really tell weight loss in my face and waist. I start puréed foods on Tuesday. Dr. won't let me back into the gym for another month. I can't wait to get there!!

  8. Hi - I was sleeved on the 25th. No real issues since except had to spend two days in the hospital due to incredible nausea. Once I stopped taking the pain meds, I was fine. I am on the full liquids now and am only really drinking double milk. I can also have greek yogurt, strained Soups and pudding but none of those appeals to me at all. I have a call into my nut to see if I am ok since I am not getting quite enough Protein. Looking forward to moving on to pureed/soft foods. Would love to stay in touch with others too.

  9. The nutritionists want you to eat "real" food and not be dependent on Protein supplements that have harmful chemicals. They strongly believe in double milk - skim milk with dry milk powder. I have been using Fairlife milk with no sugar added carnation instant Breakfast mixed in. I try to get three in a day but it is difficult. The fairlife milk has 13 grams of Protein and the instant Breakfast mix has an additional 13 so it like a Protein shake but I guess more natural? They suggest a lot of greek yogurt, Soups, and pudding for the full liquid portion. I have to do this for 2 weeks, then 2 weeks of pureed foods and then a month of soft foods before having solid, non blended food. That puts me having my first real food at Christmas! I wonder if that will be a good present or not. LOL!

  10. So I was sleeved last Tuesday (10/25). I feel like I was as prepared as I could possibly be. I lost weight pre-op, had no trouble following the liquid diet, researched the heck out of it and felt I had a handle on the next stage.

It seems so different than I thought it would be. I have had terrible nausea but relatively no pain. I just can't wrap my arms around the inability to eat and drink. I am getting in my Water but really struggling with the Protein, especially since my surgeon doesn't allow Protein shakes. I get double milk, Soups fortified with dry milk, pudding made with double milk and Greek yogurt. It is hard!!!!

They said to take it slow and I have but wow! I am probably only getting 300 to 400 calories per day and feel like that is difficult.

I know it will get better but I don't think I expected how hard it would be.

  11. Keeping me another night due to the extreme nausea. Dry heaves are not fun. Surgeon said approximately half of all sleeve patients get this and they are not sure why. Have to do the liquid protocol again tomorrow before I can get released. Their liquid protocol includes drinking 30 cc med cup of Water every half hour and then move on to 60 cc every half hour until you can get 60 med cups in. Interesting but they are worried about dehydration first and foremost. Won't even going home until that is done.

  12. Starting to be able to sip Water now. Hardly any pain but super nauseous. Sounds like that's normal. Surgery was a breeze and was up walking as soon as I was in my room. Good luck to everyone else too! Hope your procedures go as smoothly as mine.

Just FYI, my surgeon sucks out as much of the gas before they close you up to help. Didn't know they did that but thinks it has helped a lot.

  13. So I am almost to my surgery date, 10/25, but I am also starting to wonder if this is the right thing to do. I have lost weight before successfully (over 80 pounds three different times), but unfortunately it had always found me again. I am very self disciplined most times but when I go into maintenance mode, I slip. I love to cook, grew up on a farm with a mom who was an amazing cook who taught me well. . I don't want to put myself through this for nothing. How do you keep the weight off long term? It terrifies me to think of doing this for nothing.

In 2014, I lost 88 pounds doing weight watchers and exercising like crazy. I would workout 4 hours a day and think nothing of it. But in doing so, I injured my Achilles' tendon and have had surgery this past spring, and have another one scheduled in December. I love working out, and want to do more. My doctor had said the best thing for me is to get my weight down to have not as much pressure on my tendon so that led me down this path of wls. I guess I am hoping for some reassurance from people who have done the whole yo yo dieting but have been successful with this in keeping it off. I understand this is just a tool, but I think I have also messed up my metabolism so bad with my yo yo dieting that I am more likely to regain it and that is exactly what I don't want to have happen. Thanks in advance. I don't post much but I really enjoy this board and appreciate the veterans for helping the newbies out.

  14. Good for you! It is great to hear success stories like yours. I am hoping mine will be as smooth but I feel I am the same way as you when it comes to my relationship with food and it is the thing that scares me the most. I am going to lose my crutch! That is a good thing but doesn't mean it isn't a very scary thought.

I am on the pre-op diet and go in for surgery on the 25th. I know it will be here before you know it but it does seem like a long way away right now!!! ;-)
