  1. So the picture didn't add both pages. One day is 800 and the next is 1200 calories per day. Hope it adds this time. Yes, I am a little concerned about getting all my Protein in after surgery. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  2. I had my gall bladder out laparoscopically in 2009. Left the hospital a few hours later and was at a football game cheering less than 48 hours later. I had four incisions with that surgery. Trying to prepare myself for this one and wondering how similar the two operations are. Thoughts from those who might have experienced both before? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  3. My surgery is scheduled for the 25th. I have my pre-op appointment with the NUT and surgeon on the fourteenth so i won't have the full two week pre-op diet but figured i should get started getting used to the liquid only and also try to figure out which Protein supplements I like. I am going to do liquids during the day and eat a small reasonable dinner of protein and veggies for the next two weeks. I am hoping this philosophy will help me when i have to do all day liquid diet. My question is, and I know there will be a variety of answers, but how many protein supplements are you typically take during pre-op? I copied what someone else posted and am trying to follow it but wondered what others had suggested to them. This one calls for four per day along with broth, Water, milk and Jello. Is that reasonable?
  4. Hi @@KristenLe - My surgery is scheduled for 25th and my actual pre-op is scheduled for the 14th. So I don't know yet what my surgeon is going to require. I am working ahead on the diet plan since I figured the sooner I get used to it, the better. i am doing liquids during the day and a very reasonable dinner of a lean protein and veggies. I don't know what my surgeon is going to demand but I know it will be shorter than two weeks knowing there are only 11 days between surgery and my pre-op appointment. I just came back from vacation and gained 2.5 pounds that I want to make sure I lose too so it isn't going to hurt me. :-)

    Any October 2016 Sleevers?

My date is October 25th - my pre-op appointment is on the 14th so I think I will only have about a 10 day liquid diet. Yay!
  6. Ironically enough, I got the call today to schedule it. I guess calling a couple times a day works in the end. . October 25th is the day! I am having to switch surgeons though as the one I started with doesn't have time to fit me in before my insurance approval expires. I didn't know that insurance companies have dates ranges for approval. I found that interesting. Anyway, it has been an exciting day and I am both nervous and thrilled to get to this point. Now to schedule all the pre-op stuff. Hopefully they will call me soon to get all that on my calendar as well. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  7. So I found out over a week ago that my insurance has approved me for either gastric sleeve or bypass. I had told my surgeon before they submitted that I had a specific time frame in mind for this and he said he didn't think that would be a problem. I have called the center several times trying to get this scheduled as I know I have to meet with the anesthesiologist, the nutritionist, etc. When I called his assistant who does the scheduling she told me that I am on a list of patients that he is working to move to another surgeon!!! I just don't understand and am getting frustrated in not moving this forward. Has anyone else struggled at this stage of the game and if so, how did you solve it?

    Metabolism testing (RMR)

This sounds very interesting. Can you tell me more about what the test entails? I haven't heard of this one and think it would be good information to have prior to surgery. Thanks in advance.

Fitbit Aria Scale & Body Fat

So the problem with any body fat impedience measurement, it is always going to adjust from how hydrated you are at the time of measurement. I have an aria scale tied to my fitbit app and know that if I weigh myself in the morning, after my cardio workout, I am going to register high on my body fat due to being more dehydrated than I am say in the afternoon. I will also weigh less in the am then as well. If I were to weigh in the afternoon after eating and drinking Water throughout the day, it is going to register a lower body fat content due to more moisture being available throughout the body. I also purchased a skulpt body fat monitor last fall. This is a tool that can help you track body fat as well. This tool measure specific areas of your body and then gives you an overall score. I think it is a little more accurate than the aria scale but I like having both tools in my arsenal. I love my fitness gadgets and have several.
  10. @@trimK9gal - curious to know if your name puts you in law enforcement? My brother in law had a K9 who just retired from the force. Emir is a beautiful german shepherd. My hubby's family is all in law enforcement so I have much love and respect for those who where the uniform. Yep - we have similar stories. Let's stay in touch and good luck researching your surgeon. It is a big step!
  11. I have been lurking on the site for the last few months as I have been researching the gastric sleeve procedure. Now that I met with my surgeon and have jumped through all the hoops to submit to insurance, I thought I would officially join the forums. I have Wellmark insurance and know of several people in the company that I work for who have been approved so I am hoping that I will too. It has been interesting going through this journey already. I have completed the three month dietary monitoring with the nutritionist and psych eval. I was really fortunate to have a therapist who was a year out from surgery from the same doctor I am going to so he had some great advice and thoughts to share. He has lost over 150 pounds in the last year and was getting ready for skin removal surgery. I am hoping to find out soon if I will get this opportunity. I am 42 years old and have lost and gained weight several times, the last time last year when I successfully lost 88 pounds. Unfortunately, I tried to jog two half marathons in two days (I-35 Challenge of Des Moines and KC) and really messed up my left Achilles tendon. I had surgery on it to lengthen it in March and am only now recovering from that whole ordeal. In the process of being unable to workout like I typically do, I regained so much of the weight I lost. For some reason, the weight really likes to find me every time I lose it!!!! And that is my biggest concern for this surgery. I am afraid even if I go through with this, I will eventually just gain the weight back. I know I have to make lifestyle changes. I feel like I have done that numerous times before but I fall off the wagon and go back to my old ways of eating. My surgeon and his assistant say I am an ideal candidate since I love to work out and am willing to put in the effort but I am still nervous. I am not sure why this will be any different than any other diet I have done before other than this is more controlled. My surgical team say that you have a finite timeframe to lose the weight and make the changes needed to make this be successful. I am hoping for a October surgery date and I just ordered several Protein drink samples to try as well as some cookbooks focused on a bariatric diet. I really appreciate all the people on here and their willingness to share their stories, concerns and encouragement. I think having the support, whether online or in person, is crucial to being successful and am already grateful to have found this site.
