  2. Hello everyone! This is my first post. Im looking into getting the gastric sleeve and I have my first appt with my surgeon tomorrow however Im being forced to do payment plans because my insurance will not cover the surgery. I was wondering how long yall take off work after surgery? I have a desk job so I don't lift anything heavy or anything. I was thinking 1 week off and I should be good. Any thoughts?

I'm getting mine done 26th of this month and I've been cleared for only a week off by my surgeon, I have a desk job as well.

  3. So I already met with my surgeon. Have my abdominal ultrasound on sep 20th have my psyc evaluation on the 20th as well and also my gastro consult on the 20th. I'm going for lab work next week, and already had my first visit with the nutritionist. I'm doing my week food intake as well as taking a 1 a day women Vitamin. I feel like I'm missing things. I have to get a letter from my doctor for medical nessesity and she has to clear me for surgery a few weeks before. Is there basically anything left?

Ahhh Yeh 1 month off to heal properly. In London the time off depends on your job. I work with children so I have to be healed correctly before I go back.

My job only let me get a week off, but my surgeon says I should be fine since it's a desk job. Going to bring a binder just in case though cause he says that'll help me a lot.

  5. I know that for a while my food will be restricted and I've accepted that. However, sushi is my utmost favorite food that I've ever eaten. With that being said, I know rice is a touchy food for a lot of people but is there anyone that has tried to test the waters

Once they were a while out like 6mo or a year later?

If I have to say goodbye then so be it, but if I know there will be a day that I can eat it once again, I'd be so happy!

  6. An abdominal binder really did wonders for me by providing needed compression at the incision sites. Also a large body pillow that I could wedge between me and my right and left sides when I went to sleep. Do you still have a drain inserted?

Did you get one from your surgeon or did you have to get one for yourself, and if so, where can I get one?

Just finished mine this past week, I've eaten/drank all and everything I wanted. Monday is my two week pre-op diet start, and I'm satisfied that I got to enjoy all of my favorites one more time.

I found that towards the end of my splurge though, I started feeling sluggish and crappy all over again like I used to before, so honestly it's good for the body and the brain to say goodbye and remember while you're doing this!

A lot of the tips you need will come from your surgeon and the nurses. But, I will say this... You will probably have gas pains (you will feel them in your back, neck, and/or shoulder. If the Hydrocodone doesn't take the edge off while you're in the hospital, then request dilaudid. It will help. Good luck! :D

All I keep hearing is that activity is key so I'm just going to plan to walk as much as they'll let me immediately haha

  9. Having sleep apnea shouldn't stop your approval. Its actually a comorbidity factor. Its very important to be diagnosed before any anesthesia. Safety first. Best wishes.

It may though for safety reasons. I ran into a similar issue after waiting for my CPAP and my follow-up appointments were delayed; after everything was sorted out, I asked my pulmonologist why he wouldn't clear me before I used the CPAP. He told me it's because he wants the CPAP to fit properly due to the drugs immediately postop. He told me sometimes patients are so drugged up that they stopped breathing which is why the CPAP is important.
