    After liquid food

After big losses the first week or two it is normal for things to slow down, even as slow as 1-2 pounds a week, just like a normal diet.
  2. Your body is just catching up, keep following the program and you will start losing again.
  3. @@Shanrom I had my surgery on Halloween and am still not allowed to eat all the stuff you are eating. It's fine with me, just getting my Water and Protein shakes in fills me up, I can maybe do a small amount of Jello, Soup, or yogurt on top of that and that's all I can fit. I have felt sick to my stomach twice since surgery. The reason was the same both times, not enough WATER. My guess is you are eating several times a day but not getting enough water. Dehydration makes you nauseated. My surgeon says get 64 oz of water and 60-70 grams of protein in a day. IF you have room for anything else the food is just for fun at this point. Also, I would only add one new food per day if it were me. I did egg drop soup last night (maybe a fourth of a cup?) but didn't do anything else new yesterday or this morning. That way if I feel bad I know what caused it.

    Night sweats

How old are you? People don't realize that peri menopause can start 10 years before you actually go through menopause. It was be a long process.
  5. I cannot do very low carb because ketosis makes me very ill. The medical community is divided on the issue of ketogenic diets. There are a huge number that support it and bring good evidence that it's completely safe for most people. My personal take on it is that ketosis is a functional "backup" physiologically speaking for when we can't get enough carbs in our diet, and I don't think running permanently in a "backup" situation is a holistic plan. That being said, I don't think it's dangerous for most people. Great points, and I know each person is different as well. I had my gallbladder out 15 years ago so even prior to VSG a high fat diet didn't sit well with me. My husband has a strong family history of heart disease, both of his parents died of massive heart attacks in their 60's. While they did both smoke heavily, he still watches his weight, runs on the treadmill, and has been on cholesterol and blood pressure meds for 10 years (he is 56). He sees a cardiologist at Baylor who recommends a Mediterranean diet. I think we will try for moderate carbs, lean Protein, and healthy fats going forward.

    Waiting for approval

Where do you live? My BCBS Texas took 2 weeks to send my approval to me.

    Psychological Evaluation

My psych eval didn't take that long. It was easy. They mainly want to know what you have done to try to lose weight in the past, make sure you understand what you are getting into (the surgery is not a magic bullet, it requires a lifestyle change) and that you have some type of support group. I would only worry if you have a diagnosed eating disorder or depression/anxiety issues that are not well managed.
  8. I've been so confused about the things I can eat. I'm 3 weeks out and I can have regular textured Protein now. But struggle with in between meals etc. I have a list but I just feel like it's not detailed. Aside from that Breakfast is very important to me. I see folks eat scrambled egg with a little cheese and turkey bacon but is that too much this early? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App I am on liquids, soft, and mushy things until week 5. I can't even have eggs (though I did have egg drop Soup last night, which is allowed) Bacon is very hard, no way would I try that. Who is eating a full normal diet 3 weeks out? It takes 5 or 6 weeks for our stomachs to heal fully.

    food funerals?

I thought I was going to do several food funerals but I really didn't have the desire. My birthday was a couple of weeks before my surgery and we went out and had one nice meal, German food. It is very heavy food, fried meat, loads of carbs. It truly is something I may never eat again. I only had to do an easy 3 day pre-op diet. My surgeon said I had the smallest liver he has ever seen, in fact I had one less incision because he did not have to use the liver retracting thing on me. I say pick one nice meal and go have it before you start your pre-op diet.
  10. My surgeon says we need to have some carbs so we don't go into keto (which has says is dangerous) He just recommends healthy whole grains like oatmeal. Oatmeal makes me happy!

    Gallbladder surgery vs. Sleeve surgery

Sleeve was easier for me, maybe because I wanted it? I had severe gas pain after my gallbladder surgery, none after the sleeve. I woke up very dizzy and nauseated after the gallbladder surgery, this time I told them about that so they gave me better meds to combat that stuff.
  12. Not really. I had an easy 3 day pre-op diet. I had a headache from no caffeine for one day but it passed. I am now allowed one cup of coffee with caffeine per day but haven't added it back. Your taste buds change. Every taste and smell is amplified. I can't stand sweet (used to love it) so finding Protein shakes I can handle has been hard. So you changed most of your behavior after the surgery because of how it changed you? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App For me, yes. I would say I always tried to eat healthy before. I just ate too much and too many carbs. I have never liked soda often, but I would clean my plate at dinner and go back for more. We rarely had fast food but we sure did eat out every now and then, and those portions are huge. If I ate a bowl of somewhat healthy Cereal I ate twice the serving size. I wouldn't just eat an apple, I would eat an apple with way too much cheese. I ate nuts but the handful, good for you but I had way too much. I could easily eat a whole avocado, stuff like that.
  13. I hated being hungry too, that's why I was never a successful dieter. It's also why I chose to have 85% of my stomach removed. Even when I do feel a little hungry a couple of ounces fills me up. Try to get off the soda, I was never a fan anyway. It all tastes like chemicals to me. I guess I always wanted to eat healthy but I was always too hungry. I really feel like now I can do it. That person surviving on junk isn't going to keep the weight off, plenty of people who have WLS gain the weight back. We always have to eat the healthy, Protein rich foods first. For life!

    Week 3 blues

I am 2 weeks today. I am required to have 60-70 grams of protein a day. I have 2 protein shakes and my water, not much else fits. I can do a couple of ounces or soups, jello or yogurt and that's it. I do hear gurgling but I just keep going, SLOW. As long as you are getting your water and protein everything else is just practice eating, but if you are worried ask you medical team. I have had 2 follow up appointments already.

    How long?

Can I ask about your denial? Reason and what to do? I have a feeling I'm going to be denied. My bmi varies from 39 to 40 and they said my co morbid conditions don't count. Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App I was right at BMI 40 my first surgeon's visit in August. They didn't weight me again, they just sent me for a psych eval and once they got that in the sent everything for approval. If they had weighed me over and over I would have been below BMI 40 at times.

    BCBS Texas took 2 weeks.

    Dizziness

Are you getting all your water and protein in? After that there are other things your doctor can check for, but mostly I just don't think people realize how long it really takes to recover from major surgery.
  19. I just had surgery on Halloween and I honestly don't know how people cheat. Just getting in my protein shakes and water every day is a struggle. I don't feel hungry at all. I have no cravings. And the fear of getting a leak or rupturing something keeps me from trying anything not approved. Don't get my wrong, I know eventually I will heal up and be able to eat more variety and volume, I will just do my best to never add back the bad stuff. Right now I am determined to be successful. I don't want to have had major surgery for nothing.

    Feeling dizzy

My doctor say we don't feel tired because of the low caloric intake, we are tired because we are still healing from major surgery. As long as you are meeting water and protein goals, and taking vitamins, I don't know what else you could do. Most people go back to a desk job it seems. I am 2 weeks out today and needed a nap this afternoon (busy weekend) but then I am older than most of you guys.

    Liquid phase question

I would think the soup would be okay as long as the sodium isn't too high. Yes, you can add protein powder to this. I have tried every protein shake under the sun and found I can tolerate Premier the best. I am two weeks out and struggle to get two of those down a day. Plus my water. Everything else I drink or eat is just for fun really.

    Scare and Confused

I only had a 3 day pre-op diet and my surgeon said I had a the smallest liver he has ever seen. He did one less incision because he didn't have to use the liver lifter thing. Most obese people do have an enlarged liver but you never know, so glad I didn't have to suffer through a long pre-op diet for no reason! Hope you feel better soon!

    Beginning

I wouldn't risk it. It is high in sugar. Just go to bed, don't be nervous, it will be fine!!!

    Post op hair loss

I have heard too many people say that biotin made them grow hair in places they didn't want it (upper lip and chin for women, hairy arms, etc) My hair is so dark I don't want to risk it. I plan to keep up with my Protein and Vitamins and if my hair gets really thin I will get a short cut. I have been wanting one for a while anyway. It will grow back.
