Being cold is getting old!
laceemouse replied to highfunctioningfatman's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I feel the same way, I have lost 30 pounds and am not any colder than I was before surgery. I am in Dallas, it is chilly now so I am chilly but no more so than in past years. Maybe it will happen when I lose more weight?? -
Pet peeve: extra skin.
laceemouse replied to JupiterinVirgo's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Just wondering, would you go into the schools and give them a lecture to scare them straight? I sure wouldn't!! But my body could scare someone straight for sure!! Like you said I'm to old also. I think that most of us don't have PS because we want to LOOK GOOD> I did have a Panni done a year ago last Sept. I can tell you it wasn't for my hard natural body!! If only I was younger and had the money I would have nips and tucks done in a NEW YORK minute!! Hahahe me? No, but I think a medical professional could do it in such a way that it would be okay. Honestly, maybe I would do it, I'm not very shy -
First of all you are losing at a crazy fast rate, congrats. Yes, it's very common for periods to be messed up by rapid weight loss. I have heard of people have 2 periods in a month, bleeding non-stop for weeks on end, etc. It isn't anything to worry about but call your gyn just to be sure.

I don't want to weigh!
laceemouse replied to Stacey99's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had surgery on Halloween. The first 2 weeks I only weighed at my 1 and 2 week follow up appointments with the surgeon. Since then I only weigh on Mondays. I plan to keep just weighing once a week forever if I can. Most people weigh every day and our weight fluctuates daily. Then they will beat themselves up about what they did "wrong" the day before. They also say they are in a "stall" if the scale stays the same for 3 or 4 days. It is ridiculous to call that a stall. A true stall would last a lot longer than that. The way I see it is I am doing everything I am supposed to be doing. I can hardly eat anything, if the scale doesn't go down there is no way I could eat less. I probably need to be eating MORE but at this point I can't. So what would a "bad" reading on the scale do for me?? I am losing great by the way -
Non-liquid Pre-Op Diet?
laceemouse replied to SeattleSleever's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I only had a 3 day pre-op diet and it was not liquid. It was low fat and sugar, moderate carbs. I could have grits (no butter) low fat dairy, Protein shakes, low fat Soups, etc. No meat, bread or other carbs. No caffeine. It was easy and my surgery went fine. Every surgeon has different dietary requirements pre and post op. -
BMI Drops below 35 day of surgery?
laceemouse replied to Calizzer's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I doubt it, if your surgery is already booked why would they keep going back and looking at your weight? Once they approve you it is out of their hands. I had a similar situation, BMI 40 with no health problems. I probably lost a couple of pounds pre-op with my easy 3 day per-op diet. I can't see any way that insurance would know that unless the hospital or your surgeon called them right before they rolled you into the ER. Each insurance is different though, many ask you surgeon? Believe me, he/she wants to operate on you. That's how they make money. -
5 Day Post Op from VSG and I don't have "full feeling"
laceemouse replied to xogipsy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 5 weeks out and don't ever feel full. I struggle to get all my Water and Protein in each day and don't eat anything really solid. A scrambled egg is the most solid thing I can eat and I can hardly finish one, but I don't feel full so much as I feel like I can't get any more down. On Monday I will be allowed to eat much more, hopefully I will get that full feeling then but I know I am going to have to start slow. My sleeve is tiny. -
Surgery on Dec 27th. What did you replace food with?
laceemouse replied to MickeyKat's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Eventually you will eat again, just in much smaller amounts. And what you can eat takes forever to get down. I am almost 5 weeks out and I feel like my entire day is taken up with trying to get my water and protein in. I think people further out just feel like they are eating like a normal person instead of a morbidly obese person. -
Hope you are doing well!

Unflavored Protein question
laceemouse replied to Christina.Rose's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What do you put your Genepro in? I have some and tried it with watered down juice (I can't handle artificial sweeteners) and it made it change a weird color and get really THICK. And it was a large glass. Yuck. -
Got approved yesterday. Surgery is set for Wednesday.
laceemouse replied to opie7799's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Follow the eating plan given to you after surgery. So many people try to rush into real food. They always regret it. It takes 5 or 6 weeks for you to totally heal and the swelling in your stomach to go down. That staple line needs to close completely or you risk a leak which can be life threatening. And get your Water in. Sip, sip, sip. -
Older people doing gastric sleeve
laceemouse replied to stellabella1334's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm "only" 54 and had the sleeve on Halloween. It was relatively painless and I am losing well. Being able to eat again has been a challenge but that will get better over time. Right now I work all day to get my Water and Protein in. I was on blood pressure medicine prior to surgery for about 5 years. My surgeon told me to go ahead and stop taking it when I was discharged from the hospital. I was a little nervous about it but I have taking my blood pressure daily and it has been prefect every time. Right now I walk on the treadmill daily, hope to get into some easy exercise classes at the local rec center in January. I have zero desire to lift heavy weights or run marathons. I am not too worried about the loose skin that will come, I'm not going to wear skimpy clothes anyway, my husband never complains about anything, and I had 4 huge babies so doubt my stomach would be perfect anyway -
Husband says he doesn't like skinny women...WTH!
laceemouse replied to Dknal2's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Girl I am praying for you! We are almost exactly the same size and our stories are so similar (except I had 4 kids) However, my husband has been very supportive of my surgery. He is not overweight but we both have strong family histories of heart disease, all 4 of our parents are dead. Does your husband realize that being 100 pounds overweight will take years off your life??? Mine does, and he wants us to have as many years together as possible. We are not trying to get skinny, we are trying to get healthy!!! Hang in there. -
The waiting is hard!

Why can't you drive yet? I was told I could drive after one week as long as I was not on pain meds anymore.

Watch Netflix, a series you have been dying to watch or a movie every afternoon. Go to the library and get some books or books on tape. Watch weight loss surgery YouTube videos. Meet a friend for coffee or tea. Do online holiday shopping. Go to a mall or large antique store and window shop. Start a hobby like knitting or put together a puzzle. I am almost 5 weeks out and I love being at home, but I don't work outside the home anyway. I walk on the treadmill every day but other than that I don't do much, it is getting cold and we have had a lot of wet days since my surgery. At first I took a nap every afternoon, now I at least rest a little each day. I must be part sloth, I don't mind it at all. Tomorrow we are decorating for Christmas and I am looking forward to that.

Usually the surgeon's office makes sure everything has been done correctly before they send it to insurance. They want to do surgery on you, that's how they make money. On my first surgeon's visit they gave me a check list telling me what my insurance requires for approval. I was just at BMI 40 and that was what they required. I was approved in about 2 weeks.

I think by "user error" my surgeon meant compliance, that in his experience band people were less likely to follow the rules. But with any procedure we have to follow the rules to be successful. We all know that. I wonder why of all WLS the band people are less likely to follow the rules? My doctor said the same thing. Now the balloon or whatever it is they got going on now seems to be less problematic compared to the lap band. I think (and this could have a lot to do with the doctor) that getting the band filled just right must be hard. So many people either can't eat at all or seem to be able to eat too much. I understand that even if you THINK you can eat too much you shouldn't do it. That's a no brainer. But for me (and I will only speak for myself here) the main reason I got obese to begin with was that I was HUNGRY. All the time. Starved. I would be worried, for ME anyway, that my big old growling starving stomach would still be there, under the band, screaming to be fed. But that's just me, obviously many people have done well with the band.

100% tue. BUT there must be some reason that more and more surgeons are dropping the band from their options. They can read about statistics all day long but their personal experiences ultimately determine their opinions.

Just got my surgery date!
laceemouse replied to rspk1963@gmail.com's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My opinion is you should just try to start eating healthy, but I would not do a liquid or super strict diet if I didn't have to. Try to cut out sugar, processed foods, fast food, and things like soda and coffee. Cut down on carbs, or just do healthy whole grains. Try to hit the Water and Protein goals you are going to have to get in after the surgery. The pre-op diet is to shrink your liver. Most obese people have a huge fatty liver and the surgeon has to lift it out of the way in order to get to the stomach. Some surgeons think the diet doesn't change things much, they still have to lift the liver. And some people, like me, don't have an enlarged liver. My surgeon did not have to move mine out of the way. I am so glad he didn't require a long, terrible pre-op diet, I didn't need it anyway. Most people do lose a lot of weight on the pre-op diet. I didn't lose any. But now I am losing like crazy and haven't stalled yet. So........ -
Post Surgery Nausea
laceemouse replied to toofatnopants's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had severe nausea after surgery 15 years ago. They tried everything and nothing helped until they put the patch behind my ear. For my sleeve surgery they put the patch on before taking me to the OR. I had minor nausea when I woke up but they gave me a shot of something in my IV that stopped it. I kept the patch on for several days though. -

You have had 2 years of nausea? What does your surgeon say? Is it when you eat or all the time? -

Pet peeve: extra skin.
laceemouse replied to JupiterinVirgo's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
@@Babbs totally agree with you that sometimes the skin can cause health problems and also I could not care less if someone gets plastics for vanity, their money their body in my opinion. I'm too old to care. However, I LOVE this post by @@JupiterinVirgo LOVE IT! When someone comes on here worrying about excess skin or scars I just wonder if they think they look good at 300 pounds? I mean, if the idea of loose skin is so repulsive to them they should just stay obese. And the fact that they think they are going to look perfect, like they were never obese, after losing 100 plus pounds is just crazy. Do they think they are going to be modeling for Victoria's Secret after they lose the weight? It's crazy. That's why I always tell them to go to YouTube. You can see hundreds of people who have lost weight (most of them young and healthy) and they strip down and show you all their excess skin. It's pretty gross. It happens no matter what we do. Honestly I think there should be some program where they go into the schools and talk to young people before they get so heavy. Show them what a naked obese body looks like. Show them what a tiny amount of food is considered healthy eating. Show them what WLS entails. AND show them what people look like after they lose massive amounts of weight. Kind of a "scared straight" for obesity.
