Protein shakes
laceemouse replied to JessecaMartina's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Before surgery most of them were fine to me, post-surgery my taste buds are messed up. I tried a million of them and could only get down Premier vanilla or chocolate. Now almost 6 weeks out I am so sick of them, trying to stick with Vitamin water and getting the rest from foods (although I can't eat much) Stay tuned, I am sure I will be on to something else next week. -
A leak will make you very sick. Your post-op instructions will tell you to look out for things like fever. The best way to avoid a leak is to NOT try to eat solid foods too soon after surgery. Follow your surgeon's instructions.

Most people who lose a lot of weight lose their boobs. I was a B cup before I gained my weight, a D now, and will be fine going back to a B. Big boobs make you look fatter anyway. There is no exercise to fix saggy boobs. The muscle behind them can be exercised but the boobs themselves can't be tightened up. Most people describe their post weight loss boobs as tube socks with tennis balls in them, lots and lots of extra skin. Surgery is the only real fix, but most people look fine in a good bra anyway. Your boobs should never be more important than your health.

I brought my heating pad but didn't use it. I had a morphine pump in the hospital, no pain whatsoever.

First of all, you lost 59 pounds in 2 months? That is insane, I have never heard of anyone losing that quickly. You do realize there is no way you can keep losing at that rate, especially since you weren't super heavy when you started. Lots of things can make your weight fluctuate: hormones being number one. Do you still have a cycle? Is it now or coming soon? Also, things like sodium intake, etc. Everyone experiences fluctuations and stalls along this journey. It is normal to go weeks without losing even if you ARE doing everything by the book. Some men will reach their goal in 6 months, women usually take 9 months to a year, with those having less to lose losing more slowly. But wow, you have lost a pound a day and you are complaining? I wish I had your problems

Advice Needed During Wait
laceemouse replied to tracybshaw's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I would ask for sure if losing during the waiting period will disqualify you. I was barely BMI 40 my first surgeon's visit but there was not a waiting period, they sent me for a psych eval and submitted to insurance right away without weighing me again. If they don't sound like you have a good chance of being approved can you use another surgeon/hospital? I was happy my insurance didn't make me wait because of this very same reason. -
Eating healthy really isn't too expensive, especially after the surgery when we can only eat a tiny amount of food. I also have to tell you it gets much easier after surgery (at least for me it has) because I have no real desire to eat. I know it will come back eventually but right now the idea of eating junk food makes me want to barf.

I am done with menopause and may have gained a few pounds going through it but nothing like that. Your doctor can check your hormone levels to tell you how far along you are in the peri-menopausal period (which can last for many years) Mine checked mine once a year for probably 5 or 6 years. If you are eating the way you did when you first lost the weight there must be something else going on. I hope you can figure out what it is

Do you eat slowly? How many times a day do you eat?

Do side by side pictures of your face before and after weight loss. My guess is you both have lost a lot in your faces, everyone does.

Sleeve day surgery?!?!
laceemouse replied to Stacey99's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Lots of the WLS places around here do same day surgery. My guess is that most people do fine with it or they wouldn't do it, it does save money. I stayed 2 nights on a morphine pump. I am glad I did, but I am the odd person around here. I had zero pain and minor nausea but I still felt week and shaky. My bedroom is upstairs and even 3 days post-op I worried about climbing the stairs. Also, lots of people sleep in a recliner for a few days because they don't want to lay flat or accidentally roll over on their stomachs. Those adjustable hospital beds are nice. My guess is you will do fine though. -
It was easy. They will ask you about the history of your weight problems and what diets you have tried. They also want to be sure you understand what you are getting into and that you have a support system.

The Statistics are not in our favor? (According to my worried Dad)
laceemouse replied to Anna Nim's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
YES! I had my gallbladder out 15 years ago, way before I even thought about weight loss surgery. I weighed less then, and had lost a whopping 40 pounds on Weight Watchers when I ended up in the ER in agony. ANY weight loss, with surgery or without it, can lead to that pesky gallbladder acting up. Our terrible diets caused the problem, NOT weight loss surgery. -
Metabolism after surgery?
laceemouse replied to tenseintexas's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have the same concerns, I am 5 weeks out and can hardly get anything down. The way I see it is.....what can we do about it? If you can't make yourself eat more now then you can't. -
How far out are you? I am way behind most people on what I can tolerate, I had my surgery 5+ weeks ago and the thought of eating meat just sounds terrible to me. I am still struggling with protein shakes, yogurt, cottage cheese, soup, a scrambled egg here and there. Everyone is different, take it slow. Your system isn't ready for that yet, meat is hard for a lot of people to handle.

I had my gallbladder out 15 years ago. Most people are told to limit fats after surgery, some have issues with sweets. MOST go back to eating whatever they ate before pretty quickly. Carbs are not really good for you anyway, post VSG I plan to limit them drastically. Lean Protein and produce are good bets for after both surgeries.

Smoking Marijuana Preop
laceemouse replied to BubblesOhSoSleeved's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't get hungry after smoking...I'm just want to sleep Sent from my SM-G920V using the BariatricPal App You do understand that anesthesia puts you into a deep sleep right? I would talk to the doctor about it, you will at least want to have a good gap in time between smoking and being put under. I would think the fact that it makes you sleepy would be a huge worry for the anesthesiologist who will be putting you to sleep for the surgery. -
Malabsorption is a major concern and constipation
laceemouse replied to sugarbear234's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I am almost 6 weeks out sleeve surgery and I have not been constipated one single day. In fact, I have had diarrhea a couple of times. Every person is different. The problem comes from the fact that we always have to eat Protein first. When your tummy is tiny that little bit of chicken or fish fills you up, there isn't any room for veggies and other Fiber rich foods. Constipation and diarrhea are both pretty easy to remedy, and you don't even need hard core drugs to do it. For both problems my surgeon recommends Benefiber. You put it in your Water and can't even taste it. Basically it just replaces the fiber you are missing from your diet. Some people do need more and use things like stool softeners, etc. Some people continue to have problems with constipation for a long time but usually as time goes on and their diet becomes more and more varied it gets better. I can't eat much now but I know in time I will be able to consume more healthy foods. -
Gerds, gallbladder, anemia, and osteoporosis
laceemouse replied to sugarbear234's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
The surgery doesn't make it impossible for you to eat, it makes it easier for us to be satisfied eating NORMAL amounts of food like thin, healthy people are. People in their 50's, 60's and 70's don't need nearly as much food as younger people, people who are thin at those ages are the ones who live to be 90. Not everyone gets GERD, but obese people are likely to have it anyway so your chances of never getting it if you don't have the surgery are slim. Some people do have gallbladder issues after weight loss, but it really has nothing to do with surgery. I had to have my gallbladder out 15 years ago after losing a measly 40 pounds on Weight Watchers. If you lose the weight on your own you could still end up with gallbladder problems. I don't understand what the big deal is about Vitamins, is it really that hard to take them? -
A lot of it depends on your starting weight, those with less to lose will lose much more slowly. Whatever happens you are most likely going to have to have your dress altered a week or so before the wedding. Just plan on it.

Soft Protein Food Ideas?
laceemouse replied to LaLa Weez's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well you need to be getting protein so I would say protein shakes, yogurt, and cottage cheese would be best bets. -
By then I think most people can try anything they feel like trying. I have been told I can try anything at 5 weeks (although I am not ready yet, taking it slow) You should call and ask. What are you not eating now??

When can I drink from a straw
laceemouse replied to flores714's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my surgery 5 weeks ago today. I was told to wait 4 weeks before using a straw. I tried one (just a tiny sip) a little before that and it was horrible, lots of gurgling and I could feel the air in my stomach. I am not in any hurry to try one again. But everyone is different. -
It depends on your insurance. Mine had a list of recommended surgeons and I just called one and made an appointment. I did not need a referral from my PCP, which is a good thing because she didn't think I needed it. Do you know for sure that your insurance covers bariatric surgery?
