    Soup/liquids question

@@tapgirl I am about the same as you and I am having the same experience. It takes me like hours in the morning to get a Protein shake down, and hours to do a second one in the evening. My doctor wants me getting 60-70 grams of protein and I am hitting that. I am also hitting my Water goals. I enjoy a little Jello (I can do about 2 oz), some soup, or some yogurt each day as well. All go down easily. I don't see anything wrong with it as long as we are not eating too fast or feeling discomfort. As others have said all of this stuff is basically liquid. I have a feeling when we start on real solid food it won't take as much to fill us up.

    Standard clamp with VSG

What is the clamp? What does it do? Every program and surgeon is so different, it may be something that others use and it may not be.

    Hello everyone

It will be fine, good luck to you!
  4. Do you watch weight loss surgery people on YouTube? Look for See Jane Shrink. She is vegan and has lost 100 pounds, I think. She follows a Dr. Wiener. He has books and YouTube videos about eating vegan. I couldn't do it but good luck to you.

    How much weight?

My guess is you lost during your pre-op diet too. Your body was already used to eating really low calorie. To answer your question I lost 7.5 pounds the first week. But I only had a 3 day, easy pre-op diet. Some people lose a lot of weight pre-op, I hardly lost any. My total 2 weeks post-op is 19 pounds since my highest weight. I am only going to weigh once a week until at least week 6. I am struggling to get my Water and Protein in, there is no way I could eat less. I could walk more but no strenuous exercise for a while.

    What to take to hospital

I just had my surgery on Halloween. I packed a bag but hardly used anything I brought. I used my hair brush. Phone charger. I brought a scrunchie and face wash so I could wash my face. I stayed 2 nights. I wore a hospital gown and another one over it going to other way so I could walk without my butt hanging out. I wore their slipper socks. I used their lip balm. I didn't shower. I did use my own toothpaste and toothbrush but they do provide them. I went to the hospital with comfy yoga pants, a front hook bra, undies, and slip on shoes. I wore the same thing home but with clean undies. I brought my heating pad but didn't need it. I was on morphine, no pain at all, I slept a lot. I bought Gas X strips and still haven't opened the box. I kept the tv on all the time and texted/played on my phone when I felt up to it. Mostly all I did was sleep and walk and pee.

    Vacation after surgery?

I am 2 weeks post sleeve and while I am not in pain or anything I still get tired every afternoon and sometimes nap (or at least rest). I am ready for bed about 9 at night. Maybe things will change drastically for me in the next 2 weeks but I think people underestimate that this is major surgery. Also, most of us have restrictions on lifting for 6 weeks so no lugging your suitcase or anything. I would be scared I would forget, heck even at home I have almost forgotten a couple of times. I know I am the odd person here. Overall my surgery went great and I feel much better than I thought I would. But a trip where I have to walk a lot (Disney, Vegas, I have done both and wow, they were both hard even when I felt 100%) and couldn't be certain I could eat what I need when I need it, just doesn't sound like fun to me.

    Feel like a failure.

I am only 2 weeks out so I am living on Protein shakes but going forward, yes, I plan to weigh everything I eat and track every bite I put in my mouth. I plan to eat low carb, good carbs only and even those rarely. Low sugar. Always keep my Water and protein up. This is for life, the surgery did not "cure" my obesity. Do you have a nutritionist you can talk to??
  9. Put a small spoonful of each thing on your plate and taste a little bit of each item. I can't believe people are going to fuss at an adult for not cleaning their plate. OR, just put healthy things like turkey and some veggies on your plate and say you are eating healthy these days. Let's face it, we have all tried a million different diets and failed at all of them. Just say you are working with your doctor and finally found a program that works for you. That would be the truth anyway right? As far as people saying you are getting too thin that just sounds like jealousy. I would be tempted to print out a BMI chart and post it in the break room, most people would be shocked to see what a "healthy weight" really is. Most people that we consider normal are at least in the overweight range. I am not saying BMI is perfect or that we all have to get down to "healthy" BMI, but if you can and want to that's great!

    Premier protein

Premier is my favorite but you need to try different protein shakes to make sure you are getting your protein in. Many people use GENEPRO, my doctor doesn't recommend it but you just have to try to find something that works. Our bodies won't heal without protein. I started shakes on day 5 and many of them were gross to me. I have a hard time getting even 30 grams of protein a day in. When I went to my one week follow-up my surgeon fussed in me. He says your sleeve won't heal without at least 60-70 grams of protein a day. It also helps you keep your hair. I don't want a hole in my stomach or all my hair to fall out for I get my protein now.

    Bandage

I would ask your doctor. Have you had follow-up visits? I went one week pot-op and go again at 2 weeks. I plan to ask my doctor when I go on Tuesday. Some stitches dissolve, others have to be pulled out.

    Full liquids.

There is no protein patch, I struggled the first few days but it got better right after I passed 7 or 8 days. I tried all the Protein Shakes and Premier works best for me. It is creamy, not chalky. The ones you mix with Water are horrible to me. I prefer the vanilla and sometimes chocolate Premier, the other flavors taste very artificial to me, yuck. My surgeon fussed at me on my one week ppst-op about protein, if you don't get it in you will not heal, and your hair loss will be worse. As a last resort some people buy GENEPRO and mix it with water and something like Crystal Light or Mio drops. There is controversy about it though, my doctor does not recommend it.

    Am I doing this right?!

Wow, my surgeon has me on liquids and soft foods for the first 5 weeks. I am almost 2 weeks post-op and the idea of eating chips makes me want to barf. In fact, I have been told it is dangerous. The stapled line in your stomach is not even healed yet. When I add more foods back it will be very slowly, like one new soft easy to digest thing at a time. I look forward to trying ONE egg. Right now if I have a day when I can get my Water and a couple of Protein shakes in I am doing good. For the rest of our lives we will have to do water and protein first. At each meal we will eat protein and then, IF we have enough room, we can have a little bit of veggies. After that, IF we have room we can add fruit or a healthy whole grain. I honestly plan to never tempt fate. I will not even try sweets, bread, Cookies, crackers, chips, candy, etc again EVER if I can help it. I plan to make healthy choices. I guess you could say I am tired of being morbidly obese? Do you track everything you eat? I plan to when I actually start eating. Many people use the My Fitness Pal app on their phone. If you had to enter in there that you ate chips how would that make you feel? Not fussing at you but my surgeon is very strict and I plan to follow his advice. I am a rule follower. I don't want to go back in there, not have lost anything, and tell him I am eating junk. I respect him (and myself) too much for that. I think long term. What size will I be at Christmas? Spring Break? Next summer? Wouldn't it be great to buy a smaller, cuter swimsuit next summer?? BUT, I really can't understand how you can get that much in. I feel hungry but a teeny amount fills me up. I get a 10 oz shake out of the fridge and turn on a movie because I know I will be working on it for a while!

    Nov 9th. Done! Wow!

Funny, I think most people have the largest cut on the left side, I did. A nurse told me if your stomach was taken out of the right side it probably means your surgeon was left handed, I wonder if that is true?

    Puree food

I don't know, sounds stringy, maybe ask your surgeon?
  17. Yes, this is some evidence that the sleeve is harder for people with GERD, but I do know some people with GERD have the sleeve anyway. Maybe it depends on severity?? I choose the sleeve for the same reasons everyone else mentions, I was barely BMI 40 with no other health issues. The idea of being under anesthesia much less time appealed to me. My first surgeon's visit he asked me what I thought I want, I said sleeve, he said good choice. Had my surgery on Halloween and very happy!

    Under 200.

I am not as low weight as you guys but I knew I would lose slowly. I had surgery on Halloween. I think I had Soup twice, how do you have room for soup? I sip Water all day long and my surgeon has fussed at me for not getting the Protein in. Two shakes a day, water, and maybe a few bites of Jello or yogurt is all my sleeve has room for. Get your water and your protein in, all other eating for the first 5 or 6 weeks is for "fun" according to my surgeon.

    11 days post op...

I had my surgery on Halloween (we are in the same area, I am in Plano!) I think my stomach looks smaller so I can't help you there. I don't really have any pain unless I try to drink too quickly, Water or Protein shakes. I do still feel slightly sore across my stomach just under my breasts but it is getting better every day. Mild pain is probably fine, we are still healing. Have you been back for your post surgery follow up? I guess you could be retaining fluids. Are you constipated? That could be it as well.

    Trolls

I thought this thread was about the movie as well. Hehehehehe I am 12 days post op. I struggle to get my Protein shakes, Water, and a few bites of yogurt or Jello in each day. If I consume too much too quickly I feel ill immediately. Sure, a grilled cheese sandwich sounds delicious right now but I can't even imagine forcing down one swallow. My surgery went fine. I am feeling great. I just wonder how in the world someone would feel well enough 4 days post op to choke down half a sandwich?? I visited 2 surgeons before deciding which one to use. Both said the only time they have EVER had a person get a leak was when they ate something they weren't supposed to eat. One guy ate BBQ a week out. A leak can kill you, are at least land you in the hospital for weeks. I have to wonder if people just don't understand what the surgery entailed inside their body? I just imagine the line of staples in my stomach and food oozing out between them and free floating food in my body cavity and that is enough for me to not even consider it. Seriously, it takes me like an hour or more to get a Protein shake down. A half sandwich? I can't even............
  21. I had surgery on Halloween. I would say 3 days post op I was not in pain but felt very sore (to me it feels like you have done a thousand sit ups) I slept fine at night, I took a nap every afternoon for the first week or so. I would definitely go to a family member's home 3 days out. I would rest on the couch and not help at all. You can't lift much for 6 weeks (most people say not to lift over 15 pounds, my doctor says 10 pounds so I don't even lift a gallon of milk). If I needed to I would either go home or go to a bedroom and nap in the afternoon.

    Resisting cravings/chewing/looking for distractions.

Chewing gun causes gastric juices to be released. My surgeon, and most others. recommend no gum after surgery.

    Losing yourself literally

I have watched hundreds of YouTube weight loss journeys. I don't think anyone looks better with a double (triple, quadruple) chin and huge cheeks. As people lose weight you can see their jaw lines, their cheek bones, and their eyes look bigger. I think they look a million times better. Cheek bones that could cut glass are "in". I can not wait to lose my chins and cheeks. I do understand sometimes people look older after weight loss but they STILL look better in my opinion. I am not talking about people who lose so much they look gaunt, I am talking about people who get down to a healthy weight. Their self confidence makes them glow!
