    When does this get better

I'm 5 weeks post op and feel terrific.....although still get tired more easily. I think by week two I was feeling pretty good....not back to my normal but pretty good just the same. My energy level is increasing steadily and I really do feel good.

    Hernia?

My surgeon found my hiatal hernia during my sleeve surgery and repaired it while I was under........I'm grateful he did that!

    Hunger or Acid

My surgeon put me on Nexium24 first thing each morning for a minimum of 3 months.

    Gained weight

I absolutely agree with KristenLe........don't weigh every day..............made me crazy so I only weigh once a week now.
  5. I'm still too new to the forum (had my surgery 08-18) but my surgeon told me to get a minimum of 75 grams of Protein per day and I've seen other postings as high as 100 grams/day. What did your doctor recommend?

    Messed up

Wow.....don't think I could even eat a whole pork chop. Took me all day to eat 3 oz of shredded chicken breast. If I eat too fast or eat too much I feel really sick. I'm not hungry most of the time and when I am a very, very small amount of food satisfies me. My surgeon told me that if we over do it to take a day or two back on liquids to give my stomach a chance to "normal out". If you're still feeling sick I'd give your surgeon a call.
  7. I, too, am sleeping more but I think it's getting better the more I recover. Also, I found patch MD...........there is a whole variety of Vitamins and minerals that come in patch form. You can order them online. I just started using them. You can attach them to your back or hip or wherever they will stay attached. Hopefully they'll do the trick.

    Gained weight

I'm only 5 weeks post op but was told the IVs and hydration after surgery could cause a temporary weight gain. It's probably just Fluid so don't be discouraged................

    Time to return :(

I don't mind talking about it to most people but those I've chosen not to share with I tell them I had hiatal hernia surgery (which I did) which accounts for the liquid diet, which accounts in turn for my weight loss. Really none of anyone's business unless you decide to share
  10. I'm trying to get in my 75-100 grams of Protein............and you're right.............I can't eat 3 oz at a time. It took me pretty much all day to eat three ounces. Struggling with the Protein shakes (gag) so just picked up some Isopure today and going to try that. Before surgery 3 oz sounded like such a little portion.....now it sounds overwhelming!
  11. It definitely sounds like you need to be talking to your doctor. I just started solid foods at 5 weeks post op and I'm having trouble keeping things down. I think either I'm eating too fast or need to start with foods much easier to digest. Since this is just day 2 I'm learning what my body can tolerate. I love chicken and "think" I'm eating very small bites but can't seem to get down 3 oz. yet. I think the Isopure drinks jurisjitsu recommended would be a terrific way to get your Protein. My surgeon made Nexium24 a standard part of my diet for the first 3 months......that probably helps. I take it first thing in the morning..............break it in half and add it to a teaspoon of yogurt. It's pretty much flavorless so I can get it down pretty easily. Also, I don't know you're physical condition but my surgeon had me up and walking the morning after my surgery. The more walking the better it was for gas pain. We're all so different that it's really best to talk to your surgeon because they know your medical condition. Good luck!
  12. I'm really new to this forum and love the idea of the Body Weight Ticker........I just can't figure out how to add it? Thanks much!

  14. I remember feeling very unsure about my decision to have the sleeve the day following my surgery......the gas pain was much more than I had anticipated and I couldn't get anything down. I, like many others, had a hiatal hernia repaired and didn't even want to drink Water. I was puffy and swollen and gained some weight during surgery. And everything hurt......it all seemed a little bleak. I am now 4 1/2 weeks post surgery and feel amazing. My energy level is almost back to normal, nothing hurts, I've lost about 23 pounds and I feel like this forum has been a lifesaver and offers realistic support. As bad as you feel now just remember all the reasons you decided to have the surgery. Stay connected with all the amazing people on this site. In a couple of weeks life will be brighter, your energy level will improve, the surgery sites will be healing and you'll feel like a new person. Feeling good and making your health a priority will give you the strength you need to handle all the other things going on in your life. You'll have more energy and time spent with your son will be good quality ......plus taking care of your health will mean you'll be around for your son and your Mom in all the best ways. too much, too soon....

Apparently I'm much lazier when it comes to the broth. I take 2-3 check breasts (or any part of the chicken would work). I sprinkle the Knorr Chicken Flavor Bouillon over the top, fill the pot with Water and simmer for a couple of hours. I remove the chicken and use it to make chicken salad, chicken enchiladas/tacos, chicken casseroles or whatever for the family. It's really pretty tasty. There's no sugar in the bouillon but the salt content is high so I don't use very much for a whole pot.
  16. My doctor said I won't be able to take whole pills for at least 3 months (I had hiatal hernia surgery at the same time as my sleeve) so I haven't been taking my Vitamins. I found PatchMD online and was able to purchase multi-vitamins, B-12 Complex and Vitamin D(3) with Calcium in patch form. I'm excited to have found them . If anyone else has used them I'd love to hear your feedback. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    too much, too soon....

Most packaged broth has added sugar and is awful. I make my own broth and it's reallly pretty satisfying. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

  23. Before my sleeve surgery I read several articles/recommendations saying the amount of weight lost would be almost comparable to the bypass surgery. Over the past few days I've seen several things reporting patients don't lose as much weight with the sleeve surgery. While I know each individual is different does anyone know how the sleeve and the bypass compare as far as actual weight lost?

    When does hair loss begin?

Sounds like hair loss is just about unavoidable...........not the best news but I'm still glad I had the surgery. Anyone know about how long the hair loss lasts?
  25. I was on clear liquids for 10 days before soft food.......water, Water with flavor enhancers (the zero calorie ones you squirt), broth, sugar free Jello, sugar free Popsicles, decaf sugar free tea.......but my doctor didn't limit me on the clear liquids so I was drinking all day. I'm at week 3 and have lost 16 pounds. Hunger hasn't been a problem so far because I'm always drinking....... Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
