  1. You can do this. It's hard, but you can do it. I got on the scale right away, too, but at this point, the scale isn't going to show you the real story. Your body is healing and it has to do different things, including hold on to Water, to do that. Is the moment of relief you think is going to happen when you eat something worth the risk of having to go back into surgery? What helped me was Soup. I made some vegetable soup and I blended it AND strained it and it felt satisfying. If that fits in with your surgeon's plan, I would try that. Again, you can do this. You can. It's temporary and you will come out on the other side stronger.

    NSV shout outs

I am wearing my wedding rings again! I have a pair of boots (not wide calf) that I haven't been able to wear for 2 or more years. They are so cute and I can wear them again!!! It's starting to be comfy to cross my legs. My husband keeps telling me that my pants are NOT sexy. LOL. (Cuz I gots the droopy drawers )
  3. I went to the dr today (love her!) and she told me I'm right on target. In fact, she said on average, her patients lose about 10 pounds in the first month, and since I started at a lower weight, I might even be ahead of the curve if you go by percentages. That was great to hear. She told me to keep doing what I'm doing, other than just upping my exercise to daily, which I knew I should be doing anyway (but honestly, I personally feel like that is a health issue more than a wt loss issue--and I know others would argue that point )

    Halo Top ice cream

I agree. I also agree that this kind of response makes me not want to come here. I feel like there are a lot of veterans here that are tired of answering the same questions over and over and so their answers become snarkier and snarkier as time goes by. I would like to suggest that if someone (especially a newbie) posts something that really irritates you that you pause before posting or perhaps not post at all. So many threads here stop being conversations between adults and start being bashing sessions. I really do appreciate the wisdom of the veterans. I really don't appreciate seeing all the criticism in so many threads newbies post. It's old and tired and, like I said, makes me not want to come here. And I say this as a person not new to message boards. I'm quite a veteran when it comes to message boards. There are ways to talk to people that doesn't come across so harshly.
  5. We are really similar!! I am 44 yrs old, but I'm taller (5'5"). I was 207 at my first consult, 192 on day of surgery. I'm 5 weeks out and I weigh 181.8. It's been really slow for me--lots of standing still, tiny ups and downs--but it'll come off. That's not saying I don't wish it wasn't faster, but this appears to be the way it's going to go.

    BMI 31-32

a month out I was just coming off a straight liquid diet and onto two weeks of puréed food. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk All surgeons are different. I had 2 weeks of liquid, 2 weeks of soft foods and now transitioning to eating "as I will for the rest of my life"

Awesome, thanks! PS I love avocados.

Interesting. My instinct is to try to get my calories up to 1200 but then so many people will say to keep them around 800, which hurts my brain if I think about it too hard. LOL. At a month out, I have yet to eat more than about 1000 in a day yet (I'm sure that's probably normal). Can I ask what you eat? I, too, lost a little (9 pounds) and then stalled--mine lasted 2 weeks, then I lost 1.8 in 2 days, and now I'm back up a little today. (I know, I could not weigh every day, but I actually think in the long run it will be good so I know this is just what happens and not to freak out over the day to day weird fluctuations). Anyway, I'm not freaking out or anything, but it is so good to hear that it will happen from people who've done it.

    Stuck and frustrated!

I'm in a similar boat, I lost 9 pounds a week out, then nothing until yesterday (4 weeks post-op). I've lost 1.8 (total) the last 2 days. It's frustrating to be going this slowly, but I'm not worried. I have no idea the kinds of things my body is doing, but I do have faith I will lose the weight--even if it takes it's sweet time coming off. I'm just continuing to do what my Dr and NUT has told me to do. Also, I have lost inches. I've not measured, but my clothes are all getting too big. Things are happening, just not on the scale. Have faith, and know you are not alone.
  10. At a month out, I would say the hardest thing for me would be sitting at the same wt for the last 2 weeks and watching others say the weight is just flying off! Isn't this great!? I wish there were more people out there that have the "week 3 stall" (or whatever you want to call it, but a stall that is very soon after surgery) that would just speak up and say "That happens. It happened to me. It's ok." I've read "Embrace the stall". It is a very helpful thread, but I don't think it addresses this really early stall enough, and focuses more the stalls later on. Mostly what I see with the early stalls is people thinking something is wrong with them and then a lot of people coming in to give them advice on how to "break the stall"--eat more, eat less, exercise more, up your Protein, make sure you have your Water, etc. But after watching a million and one youtube videos, I now know that this is just what happens to some of us. We are doing all the things we are supposed to do, and the scale stays w/in the same pound (up and down) day after day. I know now that it's ok. That's not to say I'm not frustrated. But I know this weight will come off. My body is just doing what it needs to do and I need to be patient. I didn't measure, but my clothes are getting looser every day, but even if they weren't, this will eventually work. Things are happening, even if I can't see it. It would be helpful if more people who have dealt with this would come out of the woodwork and talk about it.
  11. *wave* I started at 210 (in August), was at 192 by the day of surgery (9/21) and now I'm 183. (3 weeks out) I'm amazed when I see people who lose 15-20 pounds in the first few weeks after surgery. This feels slow, but I'm not sorry I did it. I'm sure it will come off. This last week (my 3rd week, lol) I've basically not lost anything. But overall, I've lost 27 pounds and I certainly can't be upset about that.

    Straw = pain

Really? I got a straw in the first bottle of Water they gave me at the surgery center. I use them constantly. Maybe you just sucked up too much at once?

    Started at 29 BMI

Hi! I was sleeved yesterday. I started at 210 (bmi 35, ht 5'5). I was 192.4 yesterday morning (bmi 32). It's great to be in a group with similar stats. (Also, I'm 44). I'm trying to not get my heart set on any losses, but it would be awesome to be down 30 pounds in two months!
  14. Yay! Great news! I feel like I'm keeping this thing at bay. Just a little sniffles and a little headache and a sneeze here and there, but mostly I feel pretty good. My poor daughter has gone through a box of kleenex! But it started with a sore throat on Friday and she is already perking up, so that's good news that this is short-lived and mild.
  15. I totally see what you are saying. And I'll go back to what I said before, a few deviations are probably fine. This is a big deal and scary and sometimes those fears drive us back to bad behaviors. This shit is hard. My comment about asking if she's ready for it is more if she didn't stick to the diet at all.
  16. How are you feeling today, Katie?
  17. I agree you need to talk to your surgeon. It also depends on how far away your deviated from the diet. If we are talking a couple of meals, you are probably fine. If you are talking the whole time, then you are probably not. I also think you should ask yourself if you are really ready for this.
  18. That's miserable. I have sensitive skin so I anticipated that problem and asked for derma bond instead of tape. I have no idea if that will be better, but I'm hoping. That was not helpful to you at all, sorry. I've dealt with eczema my whole life so I know how uncomfortable it is to be itchy and rashy. *hug* Hopefully it will get better soon.
  19. Thanks! I hope you start feeling better soon! We are almost there, can yo believe it?
  20. OMG! I am having surgery on 9/21 too, and my daughter has a cold and I feel one coming on. I'm going to rest and drink a million gallons of tea and Water and pray.
  21. The further you get away from sugar, the less you will want/need it. Just go cold turkey. It will be hard at first and then it's easier. Think of your long term goals. Think of how you don't want to be a slave to a substance that is so bad for you. You can do this. Stay strong!
  22. It's so awesome you have such a great wife! I'm a few days behind you. Blaze the trail for me, will ya!

    I feel so lazy

Laceemouse, sorry I'm all the way up in western WA state. Too bad, I could use a buddy to do stuff with. I struggle with going back to work, too. I may. I might go back to school. I have a BS in nutrition...maybe I should become a bariatric nutritionist, haha. (probably not). I do need to find something. I have a super supportive, no weight problem husband, too. He's awesome. Youtube videos are funny that way. I know a few of those ladies VERY well...but they don't know me at all. But I'm super grateful for them.
