Walking is KEY!!! I remember I got the hiccups a bit at first but not anymore! I think it is the gas...it needs to work out from all your tissues!

    How does a fill feel?

Ok...first of all, I know how nerveous some of you may be...after I recooped from surgery I thought. "OMG...NOW i have to have a fill!" luckily, my first fill was so very easy...I didn't even feel the first prick! and then it was just sip Water etc.... My second fill, I had a "newer" nurse and she ended up bending the needle against the back of my port so she had to stick me again.... Not horrible but not really fun compared to fill #1. Good news is, the momentary uncomfortableness was just that...a moment...better than a pap smear or the likes! So, you too can grin and bear it! NO PAIN....NO GAIN..... Good luck

Any May Realize bandits out there?

Definitely look into Inches - A - Weigh......the owner of my "salon gym" knows the Peoria one, so if you nee help finding it let me know...I know I saw it once...my Mom lives in Westbrook Village and I was out shopping...I think I saw it by Fashion Bug or so??? I can not remember...anyway, I LOVE the type of non weight bearing exercise...and it targets hard spots and really does help your core muscles...which is why I had to wait for the port to heal...as for cardio, mine has an eliptical, treadmill, and encumbrant...ok spell that one right?...bike... I never did much of any of that! Plus, they weigh you weekly and help with food choices...even with being banded that would help...just tell them about your band...that you eat differently...good luck! Shelley

    Any May Bandsters?

Hi you all, I know how it feels to rely on good habits....I think that is why it is good that it takes time to get to restriction... I just got my second fill on 8/07.... I knew I was ready because I could eat more and more...although, before my 1st fill I was starving before meals and that was not the case before this fill... As for weight loss, I think it is slow too but..... I lost quite a bit before surgery taking 6 month to get ready... I am a teacher and got banded right after school got out...I just went back this week and people who didn't know were making comments about how they thought I had lost sooo much weight...so even though it had been about 17 or so pounds since surgery....the inches and look was different..I know because I wore shorts and capris that would NEVER have fit in May..... I was measured at about a month out and had lost 18 inches....I need to go get measured again... The other thing is, I was on my butt most of the summer! Several reasons for that (I was exercising a ton until surgery!!!) 1st, I had to recover, then had all these rashes for 6 weeks like everywhere and I didn't feel good, 3rd it is HOT here and I am limited as far as what I could do...my scabs just came off this week so I couldn't get in the pool...and lastly, 3 weeks ago...I fell and broke my foot! I am in a walking boot...oh, and I also got a steroid shot three weeks ago for the rash thing..which helped... OK....my point is, with all that going on, when I went for my second fill I had lost 5 pounds of FAT since July 2nd...and I was not even trying too hard...I mean, I try and make good food choices but I'll admitt, I never felt deprived and I ate plenty of regular foods this month...the first 6 weeks I had very little starches or carbs except fruits and veggies with protein.... So, even without full resrtiction, the band did help me control my eating and amounts....I made many great food decisions, did not move enough, but still LOST all FAT...I did not loose muscle which means I did well with my protein! Soon, I hope to be able to exercise...the doc thinks about 2 more weeks for the foot to do Non-weight bearing exercise...I am hopefully more restricted and will be able to eat even less! So, that is my update! Shelley

    I am miseable!!

bmaria78, I just looked at the site you posted..I can see why you are freaked out...however, I was banded in May and I have NEVER had a pb or slime time! Granted, I have 6cc's out of a 9cc band filled. I just got my second fill but so far, all is good. As for the people on the site, there is a risk...some of them mentoned esophogus sp? problems...well, that is certainly not the norm...will you have that? I guess you'd have to discuss that with your dr... You know, I did my research, chose a very experienced surgeon...etc... Some people's band may not have been placed correctly...it can happen... On the bright side...look at all the happy people on this site...I happen to know several banded folks now and they are doing great... You have to follow dr's orders and take time to heal, etc... but, in my opinion, it really would not have been approved by so many insurances...including mine! if it was not worth it.... Good luck! Stay off negative sites if you have made your decision and it freaks you out...find the poitive!
  10. Hi Denise! I had my second fill today...as Wendell stated...I could eat more the last week or so since my first fill in July....I hopw now to be closer to my sweet spot...I have to be on clear liquids for 3 days...kind of long I think...but I will do my best! How are you all doing? Shelley

Any May Realize bandits out there?

Went for my second fill today...I had lost 5 lbs of fat she said! Pretty good, I think, considering I've had a steroid shot and can't exercise with a broken foot! NOw of course, I am on Clear liquids for 3 days....torture...but hopefully my fill will squash the amount I had begun to eat!!! So, best advice for execise...if close to the 101 in Peoria, join Inches a-weigh...that is what I love doing and it made a huge difference for me! bics...I can't wait to go... Smile, Shelley

Any May Realize bandits out there?

I know what you mean Sue...but I think I do need just a little more...Last Saturday, I had steak, grilled veggies, a bit of bread...and NO problem..now, it is good I could eat that but...I could eat more than I think I should and it tasted soooo goood...so, not that I want to PB but I think I have little restriction at this point...I will be good following the fill and be very careful cause I get scared too! Good news is, I went to the foot doc and he says maybe in 2 weeks I can go back and exercise...yea!

    Rash..under my stomach (apron)

Hey everyone, I just went to the Derm. AGAIN today because after surgery in May I broke out head to toe...not really the same pannus rash... but then my butt crack got the weepy rash too...so first, to get the head to toe rash under control..one doc thought I had psoriasis....now they decided no, thank god....but anyway they gave me a Kenalog shot...like a steroid shot...so now...2 weeks later, I finally look better except for the weepy butt crack rash...that would be what we are talking about here... The thing is...my sugars are soooo goood...97 this morning and my last A1C was 6.0 but I have the yeasty thing going on...and boy does it sting if I get pee on it....YIKES...so the derm dr. had to take a look today and...he is a new doc for me...he gave me a Rx for Spectazole 1% cream and I am to mix it with Cortisone cream OTC 1%. I actually got the generic ( of both) the Rx is called Econazole Nitrate 1%. Of course, my insurance would not cover it but it was only $22.00 for 60 mg. Then he said in two weeks when I go back and it is cleared up he will give me instructions on how to prevent it...I, of course, as stated above in April, have tried like EVERYTHING... Hey, I love the idea of using the CPAP to blow dry...a good use for that too! The hair dryer can get a bit hot if the cool button gets flipped off...LOL So, I too am having the same problem and I feel your pain...gosh, I can't wait to be normal....The doc did say after I loose more weight it should get better but, then I'll have the hanging pannus syndrome...and under my already low boobs! LOL Good luck...I'll let you know what he says in 2 weeks as far as preventitive measures....

Any May Realize bandits out there?

I am getting a 2nd fill on Thursday next week. I had a bit of restriction after my first but I can honestly eat an entire bean burro no problemo...as in a huge portion....I am not always hungry until I start to eat and then down it goes,,,yummy and all... I hope this next fill helps.....I do not think I have lost that much since my last fill...I have lost 50 since I started getting ready for the band so that it why my ticker is where it is.... Oh, I am not even scab free yet! I still have a tiny one on my port scar! and I am not exercising because 2 weeks ago, I broke my foot and am in a walking boot...just getting around is an effort...so Good Luck you all! Shelley

    Tube during surgery??

Pooh... Forgot to say that the BEST thing you can do when you are allowed to, is WALK! When I woke up in recovery they just talked to me and a really nice nurse stood and held my hand until I was fully awake...I had on the oxygen mask....I just was looking around.... Then they brought me to my room pretty quickly and I got settled, they took my vitals and I said can I walk yet? They said sure, so up I got.....slowly, grabbed my iv pole and out the door I went...my husband followed me.....I then did a lap around the nurses station... I kept doing this for longer and longer times and had NO gas pain or anything...I know I was on drugs too! but still....walk walk walk... The guy in the room next to me had surgery before me and he was laying there moaning away...that's a guy thing huh?...anyway I went into his room and said, "get up and walk!" (ok...our nurse asked me to tell him!) He ignored me for like 2 hours and then finally got up...needless to say, I was doing laps around him and it took him a while to feel better... SO WALK ASAP...THE KEY TO NO PAIN!!!!

    3 months banded then removed

I will keep you in my prayers...good luck with the RNY....at least you know you can follow the "rules" and you will be loosing soon again! Most likely, even faster than with the band....take care...keep us posted... Shelley
  19. My doc had me on clear liquids for 3 days! I was filled on a Wed. morning and they said I could try soft on Friday for dinner...so it was not quite 3 whole days...I did fine following this advice...I wanted to eat though...my head....

    Tube during surgery??

I am glad you feel better...We all go through it but...look how many of us love our band and wouldn't trade it.....If it was bad we all wouldn't be here supporting it.... Even the incisions are worth it....Hang in there and breathe!

    Tube during surgery??

HI...I am so excited for you... as for the tube...I was worried too but I am happy to report...I DO NOT remember it at all...and my throat was NOT sore and last year I didn't remember it from my hysterectomy either! Calm down...and good luck! I was soooo scared too, but it is all good! SHelley

    I am scheduled for May

Hey you all! Sorry it has been awhile....I've still been hanging out in the mountains...Shelly have fun on the cruise!!! Allison, you aredoing so great!!!! Sorry about the $'s but if you had known first you may not have had the surgery...so it will be worth it... Did I tell you all that they finally gave me a shot for the rash and it is GONE!!! I can NOT believe that I suffered for like 6 weeks and the whole time I thought can't we try a steroid shot? I go back to my NEW dermatologist on Monday...along with the foot dr appt too because I fell 2 weeks ago and BROKE my foot...now I am in a walking boot....My theory is, While you have met all your deductables...go to as many specialists as you can! I am kidding of course, but that has just been my whole summer off from school...going to the doctor!!! I am officially back at school on Tuesday...UGH!!! I am taking a class this week for school and tomarrow after class (Friday) I am heading up to the cabin for one last escape BEFORE reporting back to school...I am just lucky I have had a cool place to be...it was 112 today and I have this dang walking boot up to my knee on!!! As for the band...I go to the dr. Thursday for my 2nd fill. All total. I think since surgery I have only lost about 20 pounds which considering I have had every rash and not been able to really exercise...especially now for like 6 more weeks with my foot thing... is acceptable. I sorta dread showing up to school because for the people who know about my surgery they will be like..."ooh, are you skinny yet?" If someone asks me that I think I will reply. "I sure am!" I mean, in my head I believe I will be so why not say yes?? Take care all...I'll be better about posting when I stay in town.... Happy August! Shelley

    Swelling after fill

My doc is the clear liquids for 3 days then start on mushies etc....I had my first fill early morning on a Wednesday, and she said I could try and eat by Friday night...I did refried Beans no problem. I had Soup at hand...tomatoe that day @ 2:00 but up until then it was broth, popsicles s/f of course... and herbal tea...I needed Protein by Thursday night because I had a headache...so I had a clear Protein Drink (isopure) yuk...but it got rid of the headache....good luck! Shelley
  24. Hang in there...look how far you have come....it will work out...who'd have "thunk" years ago that we would have a band in us?? Shelley

    I am scheduled for May

Thanks for your post Tonyahebert! I am glad to hear you are better....yuk poison ivy! As a kid, I was at camp and was walking across a creek bridge...never touched the poison ivy but the wind was blowing and I broke out all over my legs! So, I guess I am pretty sensitive to things....thanks for reminding me of this....I felt less itch today so maybe the shot is helping! I finally went and had a massage today...I haven't had one since before my surgery! He used grape seed oil, I think that was the one, and it felt soooo goood to have that really massaged into my skin! Maybe the insr. could cover me having this treatment everyday until it is gone! LOL..... Well friends...happy loosing! Shelley
