Janey B got a reaction from Linda Bos in 3 months post-op food issues
I was sleeved on September 19 and went through the phases with little difficulty. When I got to phase 4 (solid Protein, veggies and fruit) I began to struggle. My stomach constantly feels bubbly. While I was able to eat 4-6 ounces of soft food, now I can barely get 3 in. Also, all protein makes me nauseous. meat, Beans, cheese, cottage cheese, tuna, Protein Shakes. All of it makes me gag to get it down. But I can tolerate things like mashed potatoes or Tomato Soup. The last week everything I've eaten goes right through me. Has anyone experienced any of this? I'm getting so discouraged and starting to worry a bit.

Yes! Testing your sleeve is akin to splashing bleach in your eyes to see if your safety goggles work, IMO.

The reason for not drinking while you eat is because firstly it fills the sleeve with no nutrients and leaves less room for needed Protein. You only have so much room in there. Secondly, it washes the food you just ate out of the sleeve more quickly making you hungry faster. I've been told it's forever.

I have Priority Health and they were pretty quick about approving me once I met all their criteria, i.e. A 6-month dr supervised wt loss program, BMI of 40 or 35 with co-morbidity. Once we submitted the paperwork I was approved in a little over a week.

I'm exactly the same. My husband doesn't cook either. He finds what he likes and microwaves a lot. At first after my surgery, I did fix eggs for me. I would hard boil a dozen and eat them through the week. I would but soft cheese and yogurt. If he wanted to eat that, he would. Now 2 years out, we go out to eat as we used to do and I find something to eat and he does as well. In a perfect world, he would eat healthy like me, but that ain't gonna happen. We both hate to cook and it's ok. Take out works well too. Just not everyday. You will be fine.

A new beginning is just ahead.
It's one that can be lots of fun.
The humorous moments started right away for me, too.
For a brief moment......as I woke up from surgery......I thought I'd gone on to a happy place.
My surgeon had three really attractive female med students in the room with him at all my final pre-op appointments. They were there in my room as I woke up. One of them.....absolutely stunning.....spoke as she smiled. I thought I was being attended by angels, lol.
At the two month point, my son demanded that get back to grilling. He said he was tired of frozen pizzas, fast food and microwave meals. I hit the shower, got dressed and went to the grocery store. I was wearing some Under Armour long gym pants. Evidently the weight of my car keys and wallet was enough to pull down my baggy UA pants while I was walking through the store. By down....I mean all the way down.....around my ankles while pushing the cart.
    Funny times are ahead.
Enjoy yourself and make the most of getting lean and fit.

Have you discussed your concerns with your husband? It may be less of an issue for him than you think. Since he is more of the cook in the house, would he be willing to modify the meals to help you? For example, if he is meat and potatoes, can he make a vegetable with it? If he won't eat chicken or fish, maybe you can prepare those things ahead of time and have them ready for dinner when he makes the other foods. Going into this surgery with a continued plan of eating out is not good. You will probably still lose weight the first year, but when it comes to reaching goal or maintaining, it won't work. You have to be committed to you and your new healthy lifestyle.

Thanks, and I understand what you're saying. But believe me, although I'm sure I will deal with some jealously the first time I see him sit down with a steak and potatoes or a big wet burrito, I really do have the issue of figuring out healthy meal choices that are good for my sleeve and that he will eat. If anyone has any suggestions on that, if really appreciate it. Seriously. I want to be prepared when the time comes so I don't fall back into old habits. Thanks in advance.
