  1. I've taken Trader Joe's High Potency chewable Multi's for 3+ years since surgery. They are small and have a very mild taste. For the first six months or so I took 2 per day (1 in the morning, 1 at night). Since then, 1 per day. My labs have always been terrific, and I do get them drawn and tested regularly. They are also:

--cheaper (BY A LOT) than specialty bariatric Vitamins

--lower calorie than specialty bariatric Vitamins

--lower carb than specialty bariatric vitamins

No way, no how, not ever am I going to throw my money away on specialty bariatric vitamins. IMO they are a scam and a racket.

I looked at those yesterday but it did not have enough Calcium, Iron or B12. Are you taking any other supplements?

Note to self: I don't have to take this day all at once but rather one step, one breath and one moment at a time. I am only one person.

  2. I get it every year. I have 3 young kids, and I don't want to bring them anything home that will make them sick.

P.S. I work in the hospital.

  3. My husband of 17 years was not supportive for 2 years that I wanted this done. It was very important to me that I have his support just in case something happened. We have 3 children together. He said he did not want me to have this surgery because this was an elective procedure and he could not handle the risk of losing me and leaving our kids motherless. I get it. 2 years later, he finally came around after I presented my case again, and the kids did too.

Fast forward to now, I had the surgery. My family has been my best support. They walked with me while I was post op, and they had Soups ready for me when I got off work. I could not have gone through this without them.

Note to self: I don't have to take this day all at once but rather one step, one breath and one moment at a time. I am only one person.

  4. I don't have a surgery date yet, but I find myself dealing with this mentality that I will never be able to eat carbs and fats and Desserts again so I better eat it all now. Sound familiar to anyone or is it just me?

I did that. Gained 13 lbs and had no regrets. Now that I am post op, I am glad I got to eat and drink all my favorites before the pre-op stage. My last meal was amazing. Now I am content with the post op requirements and I have no cravings.

  5. I asked my surgeon the same question. He said it could be the Scopolamine patch or it could be the gel they put in your eyes before they tape them shut for surgery.

  6. Once I said that I'm getting it done, so many people were telling me about their experiences. I had no idea that they had it done. In the past, I have worked with 4 nurses from different hospitals that had it done. Every person except for one reached their goal weight.

  7. I have been cooking daily for my family of 5. It was much harder during the preop stage with a normal stomach. I am post op day 6 and on full liquids. I am no longer struggling to make some buffalo wings and Mac and cheese, but then to warm up my broth on the side. I am ready to chew again and I'm sure cooking my old favorite food for others will be even easier then.

  8. Hi all!

I've scoured the boards but can't find an answer. How long did you need help with your kids after surgery?

I'm a SAHM with a 17m toddler, and homeschooling an 8 yo. The older kiddo is a dream and a non-issue, and we can either break from school or he can do most of it independently. But this toddler.... she's a hot mess. She'd be an only child if she would have been first . She's also over 25 lbs, and I've read several places no lifting for 2-6 weeks. My surgeon says two weeks of help. I can easily plan to have some help in and out for a couple of weeks, but what I'm really talking about is major, full-time help.

    What's your experience?

My toddler is the same. A very hyper 2 year old who is into everything. She is 30 lbs and my MD told me I can lift her 7 days post op. For the first 7 days I made her lie down next to me for diaper changes and I asked her to come to me for snuggles. I did not have to pick her up. Her older sisters help picking her into the car seat. But you could also ask her to climb into the seat and you can buckle her up. You can serve her food on the side table instead of high chair. My daughter loved running to the table every couple of minutes for another bite.
