  1. I got my Beck Diet Solution and Beck Diet for Life in this morning. I haven't read anything, but the red book takes you day by day through the plan. The green one has the plan and positive tips. Okay, I am doing this. I also start back on Monday night with my weight loss bible study. We are studying Battlefield of the Mind by Joyce Meyer. So, if I don't get something out of these studies.....I may have to eat the books.lol I am sure they would give me that full feeling.
  2. Julie, it is awesome that you are able to help your DD with Mimi. Had one of my kids been in a situation like your DD I am sure I would have stepped up and kept my grand child daily. It has been 16 years, but I did keep my oldest GD when her mother worked part time in the evenings and my DH helped me too. Right now, he has to help me because I can't pick up over twenty lbs or I will be down. I was just saying I don't think it is selfish not to keep my grandkids while their parents work. I have nine of them, and my kids take note of who's kid I keep the most. Now the person who requires most of my attention is my mother. I want to be there for her whenever she needs me.
  3. As much as I love my grandkids......I do not babysit them daily. I have picked them up from school and kept them for a couple of hours or keep them maybe so the kids can go out to eat, but I am not their babysitter........I am their Meme. Now, my DD will be having a c-section so I will be helping out with DGD, but we are looking at mommy's day out twice a week. I told her to get her in now. My DD needs to rest now. She was sick for five months last time and now she is getting yucky. So, Janet.......I am with you and I don't think I am selfish.
  4. lol......that is what I was thinking last night. I thought maybe all of you where in a chat room and I didn't get the memo....lol Well, the weather is changing because my stomach is doing flip flops. I haven't done very well on my plan today. I have been grazing today. Not on bad stuff.....just too much stuff. I am going to the dr on the 18th. It is a checkup so I have to have blood work. Some days I think I need a fill...some days not. It must have something to do with this new acquired syndrome. I guess I will stay of for Conan tonight. I don't really like him, but the stuff going on between him and NBC is entertaining. This is his last night.
  5. Apples, I hear Ya! I wouldn't mind a little part time mindless job too, but there are some days I don't want to leave the house. Anyway, with my DD being pregnant again........I think I have future employment without pay......just lots of blessings!
  6. Lori, I would love to go to Florida and bring my mother, but she is legally blind. She doesn't go places she hasn't been before because it makes her too nervous. I just get excited reading all of your posts. It will be a blast! I wondered how it would be to live in Utah. It looks like beautiful country. I would think that a big city would be more accepting of other religions. I hope you will find a new church home with lots of friends. Apples, I am so happy you are going to see your son. I am going to keep you in my prayers as you travel to Florida. You are such a fabulous cook. I think you ought to start an online business selling one of your low cal desserts. I saw a lady on tv yesterday that had lost her job. She was known for her low calorie bagels. She invested money in an online bagel business and now she is making millions. Gotta go walk again. Later!
  7. Janet, try to find it in paperback....a lot less. Another beautiful day!.......got my walking in and then went to the park with my GD. Rain predicted tomorrow. Probably coming from your neck of the woods. Oh well, it was good. I still have time for one more walk today. I haven't weighed. My goal is 1lb a week.
  8. Am trying to line up a time share for the wedding - have RCI doing a continuous search -- honestly, it's ridiculous -- you almost have to book 2 years out to get the size and area you want -- of course, it's tough cause I have a specific week and I cannot be flexible. Hopefully something will open up during the next 6 months. Is so nice to have a 2 bedroom condo so I can have DS and DDIL and may my DB and his wife stay with us and save on hotel bills. Plus it's a nice week's vacation for all of us. If we don't get something by mid March I'll probably have to check out some other condo rentals like we had before. It's just easier to do an exchange (and cheaper) all we pay for is the exchange fee. Linda, I guess I missed it.....who is getting married and where? Eva, have a safe trip! and yes, we usually get some of your weather. It is going to rain all day tomorrow. Janet, did you order Beck Diet? Amazon just shipped mine.
  9. So sorry you are so down on yourself. You are on the right track......getting support is key. Journaling your food and exercising is also a must. You can do this! If we had it all together we wouldn't need a band to help us. Hang in there! Jump on in and post. HUGS! to you!
  10. You just confirmed what I was thinking. This did not start till I started on that medicine for FM. I will probably have that .1 taken out next month. I am so hungry, but I think it is because I can't eat enough protein.
  11. Oh what a beautiful day! 80 and sunny.....I walked twice today......this is a pain free day! woohoo! Okay, I am trying not to turn green over all of you going to Florida. Just make it a warm place next year too.
  12. Awesome! I love Oil of Olay anything. My cousin has used oil of olay all her life and she is nearly 70.....her face is so smooth.....looks like a baby's. I started using it a few years ago....love it! I will try the eye thing because my friends have had their bags removed and it is painful. Give me Oil of Olay any day!
  13. Did I tell y'all I went to a nutrition class at Dr. Garths new office? It was a support group. I was the only one banded there. All of them were bypass. They don't pb like us , but their food restriction is the same. Anyway, when the nutritionist showed us what we should be eating I couldn't believe it.....too much food for me. The thing is with me..... I am hungry after I eat. I think I need a fill, but when I do eat protein.....I slime on the first couple of bites. This has been going on since I started having Fibromyalgia. I think it is water retention. I am going on the 18th so I will find out. Also, my doctor said the best diet book out there is THE BECK DIET. It is on behavior modification. I ordered it from Amazon. Doctor's don't recommend diets so I thought I ought to pass this along. Please excuse me if I already told you.
  14. Consider yourself kicked........now, welcome back.....we need all kind of support. We have hung in here because we can't do it alone. I did not know you could have more fill than the band holds.......where has it gone? I only have 5.3 in my band and sometimes it is too tight. I guess we all wear our bands differently. Anyway, got any good tips.....please share....wow, 115lb loss. AWESOME!
  15. Janet, I just bought all three because my dr said he was going to offer the course. I guess I should have just bought one.......oh well, I am notorious for buying more than I need to......can you tell my food issues spill into other parts of my life?
  16. I hope DD gets things settled before the wedding. You know the saying....."what you see is what you get". My DD has issues with her man too and they are in counseling. I think it is really helping. She hasn't called complaining or crying. They were going to get married in March, but I think it has been postponed. Well, I have found that when I eat those first bites fast and get stuck....I have to throw up till I can burp.....then I am fine. I have acid issues. Yep, I am tight when I lift. It could be related to all the adhesions in my gut. Janet, a lady at the support meeting had read the book. She said she had postit notes all over the house. She said it was helpful. I bought the book, workbook, and some other book today on Amazon. I think one book was THE BECK DIET SOLUTION.
  17. Yes, it takes a week for the fill to settle. You may have to get it tweaked if you start to pb or can't eat protein.
  18. Jessica, stress will tighten the band. Plan your meals when you know stress is involved. Sometimes I eat before I go into a stressful setting.....then when I eat in that setting it is something very light. Also, I have found lifting groceries, grandkids and just about anything over 5-10lbs will tighten my band for awhile. I can't eat for a couple of hours after grocery shopping.
  19. Jessica, I am 18 months out of banding and I still have problems. Watch your first bite. Take a bite....chew,chew,chew. Then wait a few moments. Sometimes there is gas in your stomach and when eat too fast it can't come out .....hence you pb or vomit until that gas can come out. Now, that is my problem. We call it first bite syndrome.
  20. I Got up at 4am this morning. The rain from the west coast is moving in and my fibromyalgia is "kicking", but it is not as bad as before medicine. The fitness guy that spoke last night said not to overdo exercise because you will risk injury. I guess it is because we didn't get this way by exercising. He just said make a plan and stick with it. I think all of you have a plan. Me, well, I need to do more than walking. Thanks for all the sweet words of encouragement. It is hard to peel off toxic people and toxic food. One day at a time.
  21. I read about your promotion on the other thread.......CONGRATS!!!!!!!!!
  22. Well, peeps, I just got back from the support group. Dr Garth Davis, nutritionist, and a fitness guy was there. I was the only lap band. The nutrition is the same for bypass too. It was good to have a fresher course in nutrition. Dr. Davis said the best diet book is the Beck's Diet. It is about behavior modification. He said he is going to offer the course soon. I am going to buy it to get a head start. Bypass people have the same problems we do. It is all about having a strategy and sticking to it. He said journaling is key to success. Okay, there.....now you have the condensed version of what I got. Oh, and his psychologist, Mary Jo, who was in a lot of Big Medicine episodes will be on the Today show in the morning.
  23. Apples, you are so kind. Kevin is still in denial that the bombing began some of his problems. Mothers just know when their children are in a mess. I remember waiting for hours to get a call if he was okay. Rejoiced when he call. He was terrified. He said"Mom, please pray for me". Then my neighbor came by to say a boy in the next town was killed. I just cried. Yes, no wonder our country is obese. We live under the threat of terrorism everyday. Unlike most countries, we have the junk food to soothe our nerves. Okay, I better get off my soap box too! I hope I wasn't too much of a debbie downer today. Have a great evening! I am off to Dr Davis' Clinic to a support group. Sure won't hurt.
  24. Apples, my son was in the Kobar Towers when they were bombed. He was in a tower behind the one that 19 servicemen were killed. You know they never offered him any kind of counseling. He split up with his wife within about four months. They did go back together , but ended in divorce. I really believe he was traumatized. Sending your boys in harms way is life changing. I guess I had so much other crap going on with five kids I didn't realize how much weight I was piling on. I was just in survival mode......which does make you overeat. Now, after eighteen months from banding I am still peeling layers off and dumping the toxins. Yep, it is a journey.
  25. Janet, I have found that obesity is a symptom of a lot deeper issues. I am so glad we have each other to lean on. I just saved myself a trip to a counselor. Thanks again!
