Yep, scar tissue(adhesions) can sure mess stuff up. You know, only about 10% of us get adhesions.....lucky us. Well, the seminar was all about the reason there is so much obesity....how genetics and enviroment play a big part of obesity......and what this medically supervised diet will do for me. I will start with several weeks of shakes.....he said losing weight fast in the beginning is good for the mind and body. Then the dietician will tell me what to eat and monitor me. Also there will be a psychologist available for counseling. Oh, and someone will teach us exercises. The meetings will be weekly and the support group will be once a month. Bariatric Advantage are the shakes. The dietician has a lot of recipes to make it tastes better. I think we can put fruit in them. I have to get a letter from my primary doctor and an EKG. It costs 350 a month plus shakes. Expensive, but if you average it over a month counting all the helps it is reasonable. He said the length of taking shakes will depend on individual evaluation. The second track of the diet will be two meals and two shakes. That is 125 a month. I figure if I go through this program it will be for 6months. If I can learn a healthier way of eating it is worth it. DH went to the seminar with me and he is all for it. He will be eating healthy too. He even said he is going to put in a garden. Wow! We haven't had a garden in 30 years. Okay, you know what I know. I will keep y'all up with what I learn. Oh, and at the weekly class we will be doing the Beck Diet Solution. I bought the book and has got a lot of good helps. It is not about what to eat, but therapy for the mind.

Good morning gang! Synd.....congrats on the losses and getting in a new suit. Laura.....Happy Bandiversary! Eva......I wish my doctor did a webinar. I went to the seminar for the medically supervised diet. It is alot of information to take in. He went into to why it is not entirely our fault we are obese. Enviroment and genetics play a big part. He wants to change our minds about the foods we eat. Anyway, this diet will included going cold turkey off of food(shakes) for weeks then training us to a new way(the right way) to eat. He is seeing so many post surgery patients gain their weight back and it because we don't eat the right food. I am sure this plan will include the Beck diet Solution. I am up for it. Probably won't get start for a few weeks because I have to get an EKG and a letter from my primary physician. I need this jump start and a better way of eating. My DH went and he is supportive. He encouraged us to tell those who support us. So, I have told you. You are my main support group. I will let you know when I have my first evaluation. Janet, how awesome to have movie time with GS. I cherish those moments. Judy......props on the 11lbs! Okay, gotta go across town(Houston) and take my mother to the eye doctor. We are both getting our eyes dilated today. Pray for me while I drive. Bye for now!

Good Morning! Laura......loved the birthday pics! I find people who don't show up... don't give parties. Rude or just ignorant of the cost.........I don't know. Probably both. Julie ......like you pics of baby. Was that at the baby shower? I love baby showers. Everytime I host a baby shower I say I am going to hang up my "shower cap", but then I commit to another one. I have two coming up this spring. Lori......praying for your safety. Jodi.......whew! You are one busy lady. All the celebrations sound like a lot of fun. Cheri .........how are you feeling after your fall? We haven't heard from you. Apples, have you left Florida? Joyce, Eva, Janet, Melissa,Laura K, Linda, Judy, and Jessica....and anyone I forgot....I hope all of you are doing good this weekend. Have a great day!

That is awesome. My BMI was almost 53. My doctor just thinks if you have a BMI over 50 you should consider bypass. I think it might be because after you lose so much depending on your metabolism you reach that dreaded plateau. It is just easier to get it off faster with bypass. I am also older with a metabolism of a rock. ( does that make sense?). I am pleased that I have kept my weight off.......with the exception of 5 lbs from Christmas. Some people that have had bypass do look sickly until they get ps. My DH just looks smaller.

Yeah, Lap band is not really for a person that has a BMI 50 or over. I have at least lost half of my desired weight loss. Sometimes I wish I would have talked him into the bypass, but the other side of me wonders how many surgeries I would have due to obstructions. Oh well, it is what it is. I am not discouraged. I will have more weight loss. Thanks for supporting me. I will report in after my Monday night appt.

I have had two colon resections......with both of them I got a bowel obstruction. One of the surgeries was because the first one formed scar tissue around the surgery and closed up my colon. He did not want to do bypass because of all the adhesions. He wants me to do this supervised diet before considering doing a sleeve. What I didn't tell you is this is an all liquid diet. I will be on shakes for several months. They are not the shakes you can buy at the store. I am going Monday and get the information and then make my decision. I don't know how much this costs and I am sure it is self pay. I have heard of alot of people losing to their goal. I think he wants me to lose quickly then he will fill my band. Not sure. I will let you know. Yep, it is not easy watching my friend then my husband lose so fast. I have another friend going in March for bypass too. The doctor even commented how it wasn't fair for me. He told me I was going to get upset. I am up for this. I gotta get this off!

Lori, Congrats on your DH's promotion. I hope you have a great time. My mother's favorite brand is Alfred Dunner. I usually can find them at Penney's or Palais Royal( may be a different name in your town). I know your GM is so grateful for you taking such good care of her. I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!:cursing:

Whenever you have a major loss there is always change. You know my friend and I had weight loss surgery at the same time. I had lap-band(all I could have) and she had bypass. I lost 65+ and she lost 120. I took her to all her appointments and nutrition classes because she won't drive in downtown Houston. We are still communicating, but not close. She got involved in "second life" online. She is addicted to it. She won't go anywhere with me. I moved on with other friends. I think we both changed and moved in different directions. As far as food.......yep, I am tired of chicken. I am tired of journaling. Sometimes I wish I could eat "bad" food and get away with it. That is not my reality. Thank goodness my DH and I eat the same. He has lost 85lbs(bypass last July). That gets me down too. So, starting March1 I go to my doctors new medical weight loss plan. I will give y'all the details next week. So, Kimaly, I can relate. Our change is more than food. It affects every aspect of our lives. That is why we need to support one another to keep ourselves in check. HUGS! for you

The snow is about 40 miles from here and moving on. We just have rain. I am doing fine on the pain thing except for a headache. My new thing is to take half of a muscle relaxer when the weather starts changing. That plus the new medicine keeps me almost pain free. I am so ready for Spring. Joyce, I am so glad you are home. Julie, I hope you get an MRI soon. Lori, that is awesome on the walking around Vegas. I want to go see LOVE. Is it still there?

Poor baby.......I know how you felt. I have done the same thing. That is why I am slowly learning not to eat things in public that might get stuck......chicken breast is the biggie. Yep, when I went in last week he looked over the past six months and saw I got an unfill. The doctor asked if I had pb'd in the last month. When I said yes...... he said no fill. I hope you feel better today. What the??????? It is going to snow today in Houston! The last time I remember it snowing in February was fifty years ago on Valentine Day. I said Remember.....so don't quote me. I am in for a couple of days till this weather clears. I have gone from 30 minutes of exercise to 45. I hope everyone has a prosperous band day!:tongue_smilie:

Charlene - How are you doing?? How's Beck going - I haven't read lately - maybe today - as I don't have any real plans - finish washing and that's about it - R&R day for me I have been doing better. The weather is warmer so I have been able to walk. Are sweet potatoes bad? I ate on for dinner last night I was afraid to eat my steak at Texas Roadhouse. I felt tight. Anyway, it was only my second time to eat one. It was more like eating dessert. Well, I just got back from church. The message was on marriage vows. He mainly pointed out the weaknesses of men. Yay! Women got a pass today. Anyway, they had a drawing for a date night... I won front row tickets to the Houston Rockets.....parking pass....all the perks. Only one problem.....I don't like to go to basketball games. One thing is for sure, I know we will fit in the seats and that is a comforting thought.

Thanks Kimaly. I might give that to myself when I reach this July challenge. I hate putting on eyeliner. I have lenses in my eyes from cataract surgery and I can't see crap up close. Sometimes I go without liner cuz it takes so long.

I will pray for your family. My daughter and I have Hashimoto's. My daughter's goiter was very larger a few months ago and the endocrinologist increased her medicine. That disorder comes and goes.....hyper and hypo....so many doctors don't treat it. We take medication. I hope she gets the treatment she needs. Hypo or Hyper can really make you feel bad. Cheri, the info about muscle helping you burn calories came from DietandNutrition@EverydayHealth.com I thought you could just go there and get the information. I hope everyone has a great weekend! Lori, I wish I could go to Las Vegas with you! Have fun!

I just got back from the doctor. No tweak for me. I am starting nutrition classes next month and pt in two weeks......mainly to learn exercises for me. He thinks I just need to learn how to eat the right foods. Hey, whatever it takes. I am tired of being in this rut. And he ought to know, all he sees all day are obese people who don't know how to eat properly. Meanwhile, I will keep journaling and exercising on my own. Later peeps!

Thanks to all of you for the encouragement.
