  3. Hi gang! I'm doing pretty well, at least in terms of weight loss. I'm exercising every day, walking on my treadmill and swimming when time allows. I still find myself struggling with denser forms of protein. I am a little more than 8 weeks out. Sometimes I curse this difficulty but I know in reality it's my tool working for me. I can't do eggs of any style (I loved them before). My favorite meal is Zoodles with meat sauce (and protein powder). I have trouble with chicken especially white meat. The other day they served us paella at work and I took a few shrimp out of there and had that and even that made me gag. I can do ground up Wendy's chili and that goes down well (YES I know I should be making it myself but I don't always have the time). I have a half cup of Cream of Wheat (with protein powder) every weekday morning. I feel like I need the carbs to jump start my brain, and this goes down easily without complications. (Yes I know Oatmeal would be better). As I am starting a new job as a full-time teacher and have struggled with nausea during our "planning weeks" I have pretty much decided just to stick with protein shakes for the moment during working hours. I'd like to get off them ASAP but I just can't chance things at work considering only my boss knows about the surgery and I'd like to keep it confidential as long as possible. Because of this and protein powder, I don't ever seem to have an issue hitting my protein requirements. But it's how I am reaching them that concerns me. I have always loved hummus, and lately I find myself going to it as a go to snack especially on the weekends or when I've had a rough day nauseawise. I know that even though it's a "good" carb (relatively- chik peas would be better) and has some protein, it's still a carb, and I also realize I ought to be "challenging" myself to get better at tolerating denser proteins. Still, on the weekends, when I want something to "enjoy" I'll fix a snack of 3 ounces of it with a single stalk of celery. It goes down so well. I'll sometimes do this twice a day. My sleeve feels good when I eat it- but is it just being lazy? Is this a horrible habit? Like I say, I'm losing at a pretty good pace, and I'm meeting my protein goals. But am I building bad habits that will come back to bite me after the honeymoon? Thanks for your input.

    I've tried eggs every which way. Right now, they just won't work for me. Make me sick to my stomach. I forgot to mention that I love LOVE salmon- that's my go to "meat" when I can afford it.

    The ground beef goes fine with the Zoodles but a small patty with cheddar cheese and ketchup is a stuggle somehow. I can do thighs but they are still a struggle. I'd rather have hummus and this concerns me.

    I know how you feel but that's exactly the wrong thing to do IMO. Let them give you some guidance and insist that something has to change with their plan. They have some culpability in this journey too- don't beat yourself up!
  8. I take these and I like them- they are my little "candy" treat four times a day. I can ignore the chalky taste but I can understand how it would put some people off.

    I hear that, sister. That's me totally. I've been advised the head hunger is another term for "addiction", but I haven't had time to see a therapist yet (and have issues finding one my insurance will cover).

  11. Is this just the vanilla? I never liked that flavor, less so since surgery. I imagine I wouldn't be nearly that lucky. Darn.

    I myself am a user and a big fan of Genepro, but anyone considering using it should be aware it is somewhat controversial. They have been sued for making claims that some say are physically impossible. Google for yourself and research.

    not full

    I can tell you that the "full" feeling I had pre surgery is not the same as filling my sleeve. I have to take other signals to understand that I am full. I think it has to do with matching the feeling in your brain of being full with the physical feeling of having our tiny new stomach completely saturated. It takes some time to learn.

    No weight loss first week??

    A lot of folks actually gain weight while in the hospital, due to the IV fluids and the swelling. So it's not surprising that you haven't achieved any weight loss yet. Keep your head held high- it's coming- I promise you!
  16. You're doing great! There's something called the "third week stall" that almost all of us go through- please don't let it get you down. Weight loss is not linear and this is the first of many stalls you will likely encounter. Also, try not to compare yourself to others- everyone loses at their own pace, men lose faster than women, very obese people lose faster than lightweights, etc. As someone else on here likes to continually point out- when is the last time you lost 23 pounds in a month? Never? Congratulations on your success.

    Surgery regret

    Gee I'm sorry to hear this. Lost of stories on here about many who have had that fixed when they were already in there. I hope you can get this resolved without too much more annoyance.

    I have finally come to the conclusion that I just can't do eggs since the surgery. Tried them every which way- yuck! They make me more nauseous than any other food I can eat. Sad, because I think they are very healthy for the most part, and used to be one of my favorite foods, but I've had to say goodbye.

    Can I eat this?

    I've already programmed in a 30 pound regain once I get to whatever my goal will be. So I know I have to go 30 pounds past whatever I'd like my eventual resting weight to be, to have a serious chance of being successful. The key is not allowing the regain to go past that. Hopefully I'm building enough good habits during this "honeymoon" period, to help me to hold steady. Even if I fail and gain some of the weight back past the 30 I will allow myself, I am still certain this surgery has extended my life.

    For a lot of people, warm works better. Also it gets rid of the morning foamies.

    Water

    I'm able to drink pretty close up before I eat, as long as it's not too excessive.. But I need more time to drink after I eat. I've been advised a half hour- I usually need an hour or more. It's been explained to me that when you drink shortly after a meal, you wash that protein out of your sleeve and the "full" feeling goes away faster. So I really try to wait.

  24. I know and if that works for you then by all means.... For me I have the trauma as a child of my Father placing me on such "competitions" and weighing me in every Friday morning- and I remember how he reacted when I "let him down". Of course he was morbidly obese himself, so the hypocrisy was staggering. My other concern is the plethora of "lightweights" on here who get frustrated because they see how much weight "heavyweights" like us are losing, and get discouraged. Woman lose slower than men, and smaller people who have less to lose will lose slower. People should still be proud and happy and not compare themselves to people in other categories especially. So this is why I am sensitive about this. But you are doing great.
