    Coffee question???

I gave it up pre-op and haven't started back up. Haven't had the desire or felt the need. Bear in mind that I used to be a 30 ounce in the morning Diet Mountain Dew or coffee guy...

What have you learned on your journey

Have learned that if I am healthy and getting enough sleep I don't need caffeine. Had to stop for the surgery and never started back up. Also learning the difference between head hunger (aka my "addiction") and real hunger.
  3. Reticent to brag because I'm only about half way "there", but my birthday is this week and I hope to be into triple digits lost by then (God willing)! My Mother always congratulates me but I tell her I had nothing to do with it, it's just my tool working for me.

    Crackers and chips

I ordered this with my bimonthly shipment of vitamins and I am excited about them. A bit concerned that each bag has three servings, but I'll deal. Thanks for the suggestion. I wanted to get the garlic ones but they were sold out, so I got the mesquite ones.

    Shitataki noodle???

OMG I loves me some Zoodles with meat sauce. I am a carboholic and never thought I could live without pasta but I have. I saved one box of vermicelli to be enjoyed on my birthday but I ended up just throwing them out. Praise God!
  6. My back is horrible I am in physical therapy. The therapist says I may have arthritis in my back. It only started since my surgery. You would think taking off 95+ pounds would make my back better not much worse. Does anyone think this is related to the surgery on the front? Or just a coincidence?

    Struggling with food post op

It was explained to me by my surgeon that the nausea is your stomach telling you that it's full. Don't try to eat another bite. It's weird but I don't get that full belly satisfied type feeling that you did pre-surgery. This has been hard for me to adjust to as well. The nausea gets better as you figure out what your limits are, so that you don't allow yourself to get to that point in the first place. Good luck!

    Relationships

This surgery changes people. The you that is now is completely different than the old you. You need to embrace that, as do the people you are intimate with. Often times, if they can't, it leads to a split. That's not necessarily a bad thing, as painful as it can be. Good luck.

    Upper/inner thigh fat

I've lost more there than anywhere. And it's become real saggy
  10. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCfMSOUsiP9VXUbd6KDnkwqw This is a lady who flew down from up north and had her sleeve performed by Dr. S. Same procedure, same hospital, same self-pay as me. Watching this before really helped me to know exactly what to expect. Good luck!
  11. I can give Dr. Shillingford my highest recommendation. I was also a self-pay. Their staff is great, he is honest and realistic and did a great job with me. You can't do better.

    Help, Please.

Oh yeah I found a much better job, went from part-time to full-time. And to be clear, the firing didn't have anything to do with me being grouchy from my diet or anything, it was a long time coming. I got a new boss, and she didn't like me from the first day of the school year.

    Help, Please.

I am a vet, and I thought the response was a bit negative sounding. I'm sure Super Dave meant well but, in this case, I found it a little much. Some of us respond to tough love (which isn't always effective with strangers) and some of us need more stroking and encouragement (that's me). As for me, my pre-op diet was the hardest thing I've had to deal with so far, so. For me the first day was the worst. I adjusted a bit, but it wasn't easy. It didn't help things that I got fired from my job midway through this! I did lose 20 pounds so that helped to encourage me, but I didn't weigh myself outside of a doctor's appointment a week in. If I had been flat I think that would have made me crazy. So I understand and emphasize. Don't worry so much about the weight loss. The diet is to reduce the size and fat deposits around your liver. The liver covers the stomach and the doctor's have to pull it back to operate. As long as the liver is losing weight, it's not so important you are. That will happen AFTER! (YAY!)
  14. I certainly hope it's true! And, no offense ladies, I thank God every day I was born male.

    Problem with purging

Are you eating too much or too fast? Or do you think this is psychological and related to your earlier disorder? Just playing the devil's advocate here.

    Nerves! Help!

Best thing I ever did. Saved my life. It's not easy, but you'll do great. Prayers up for you.

    6 weeks out

I often fudge on the before, but try to wait an hour on the after. So I'd love an answer to the above question as well if anyone has it. Thanks!

    Eating for road race

    I like you Nana...
  19. I started at a 53 BMI. I never considered the bypass as I felt that was far too invasive. I feel like the sleeve was the right move for me as it allowed me a chance to diet and exercise that I never had without the restriction. Time will tell if it was the right choice. I may never lose "all" my weight, but I wanted to lose enough of it to have a chance to live a little bit longer and healthier.

    When does the light shine

It gets better, but slowly. I am at week 10 and I still have struggles, but they are less and less. In the meantime, as the payoff for my struggles, I have lost 78 pounds. I can stand up without exhaustion and walk every day on my treadmill and people don't look at me like I'm an alien anymore. So it's worth it. Those people who say this is the "easy way out", just don't know. Keep on keeping on!
  21. I wasn't cleared to submerge anything after surgery at 9 days. I don't remember when it was, but you have to give your incisions time to heal. Also, I was told not to take vitamins until a month out.
  22. I have vomited a few times when I mess up. It's real easy to mess up, as my new stomach is so sensitive that sometimes an extra half ounce of food is enough to do the trick. I need to eat SLOW and listen to my body- it always "tells" me. I don't want to jinx myself but it's been about 3 weeks since the last time I've "messed up". Hopefully the more I go on, the better I will get at avoiding this. The other thing is, it's not really what I would call vomiting, I'd call it more "spitting up". It's not nearly as violent as it was pre-surgery. First your body produces lots of mucus to "get you ready" for what's about to happen. And then when it's time, it feels like whatever is overflowing the pouch comes up and almost "drops out" of the esophogus. No heaving and I don't think my stomach ever completely empties.
  23. As Dr. Weiner says, protein drinks although essential in certain phases of the surgery, are still PROCESSED foods. He advises his patients to get off of them ASAP. I am still using them but much less (I limit to one or two a day). I just bought 108 (big sale at Costco using my Mom's account). I will be drinking them all. Once they are gone, I hope to be to the point where I don't need them.

Just over a year post op

I agree with every single thing you said regarding the pros and cons. And although I don't look NEARLY as good as you, I look a lot better (or at least less bad). But I didn't do this for appearance. I know I have added several years to my life because of my decision. Yes I struggle- we all do. But the pros greatly outweigh the cons. If you are still trying to make up your mind, read this young lady's post and take it to heart- I completely agree with her!
