Was your 2nd month slow weight loss?
janedoe92 replied to janedoe92's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
When you add it up that's definitely a lot, gives me major hope! What was your surgery weight? Also sooo interesting I've been seeing people have colds their 2nd month which is something that's happening to me right now and I'm almost 2 months. I wonder if it has anything to do with surgery. -
Was your 2nd month slow weight loss?
janedoe92 replied to janedoe92's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
It's just interesting to see people's weightloss. I have a bad habit of watching the scale, and others see the weightloss but I just can't. Definitely a roller coaster. -
Am I lactose intolerant now
janedoe92 replied to nitasjourney's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Same here, although I'm still able to use genpro which is whey. Maybe try protein waters, or soy/plant based. -
I've also heard of protein "shots" I think it's Like 2 or 3 oz of a protein water with 20 or 30 gm of protein
-
Same here, well actually all beef has been rough for me to eat, ground is hit or miss, so I don't even bother most the time.
-
This is funny, when I was about 2 weeks post op I literally Googled for them and they do have them, but they're 10 gm and below, so I just stuck to protein powder. Unflavored saved me because I was able to mix it in any food I ate and I would drink 8 oz with crystal light and add the 30 gm of unflavored protein.
-
My plan had me on ground beef about 2 weeks out, but I don't eat it often because it feels super heavy in my pouch when I eat it, ground turkey helped better. Try it see how you tolerate it, but I'd suggest make it as moist as possible

Never thought I'd regret it...but here I am
janedoe92 replied to janedoe92's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Yeah, I'm almost 2 months now so it definitely gets easier, but my first month was super rough, and my social life did die a little bit. However now that I'm getting used to the surgery and what I can and can't do I feel better and have been socializing more, still have some does where I feel sad (I'm guessing from the hormone dump), but no where near that first month. -
Curious about rate of weight loss
janedoe92 replied to Lawyeress's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
Right now it seems like I lose about 20 lbs a month. I'm nearing 2 months, lost about 24 the first and nearing 20 for the second month, but don't feel discouraged, I also started off with a higher bmi it was around 58 I believe. -
I used to LOVE sweet tea, my NUT made me give it up and said make my own with no cal sweetener. So far it's been a fail because I have the chemically taste. I'd rather drink real sugar, but since I can't I just haven't had any sweet tea sadly:/
-
Does the sugar make you sick? And I drink coffee, my nut said just replace it with the same amount in water, so 8 oz coffee= 8 oz water
-
My NUT said no caffeine until after a month and then I'm able to if meeting my water goals isn't a problem because caffeine dehydrates you you have to replace it with the same amount of water, so if I have a 16 oz coffee I need to add 16 oz of water on top of my 64 oz liquid goal.

Curious about rate of weight loss
janedoe92 replied to Lawyeress's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
It has been a thing with what seems like most people that start off with lower bmi's lose at a slower rate. It could be that, and 46lbs is great! Maybe you're not eating enough? I recently was in a stall saw my nut she said my body is in starvation mode and I needed to try to eat at least 5 times even if that means a couple of bites of something (I'm only a bit over a month so I'm still in the not eating a lot part). How many calories do you usually eat? And do you track your food? -
How a stall helped me
janedoe92 replied to janedoe92's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Thank you, and I hope many are encouraged too. I see so many people upset by the stall, so I wanted to share my story and kind of help them see a different perspective of instead of dreading it let it motivate you to break it and keep working towards that weight loss goal! -
Phentermine after surgery
janedoe92 replied to SalZ's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Coffee, phentermine is rough on the body and can/will become addictive. Also don't think you would need an appetite suppressant, weight loss pills initially are a tool (not very good ones IMO) and his surgery is a tool but better. Work your tool and appetite suppressants shouldn't be needed. -
Voice change post-op?

Maybe it has something to do with not as much fat surrounding your vocal chords -
If I had known then what I know now about my DS...
janedoe92 replied to jessgnc's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
I had a modified DS almost two months ago and I love it. I choose this surgery because of the amount of weight I needed to lose and Liked that I am also able to have the restriction of the sleeve. I've never been able to lose more than 30 lbs and I've lost 33lbs thus far (haven't updated stats) I'm excited about my future with this surgery. If you have any questions I'd be glad to answer on my experience thus far. -
Nails and polish remover
janedoe92 replied to FAT TWO FABULOUS's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Before surgery they told me the same thing, but I was apprehensive since they were my real nails. So day of surgery I kept them on no problems. They do recommend a lighter color because it makes it easier. -
Why no iceberg lettuce?
janedoe92 replied to Lovelyladybee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh yeah I don't like lettuce never have, but like the dark greens, so I guess that is a good thing, and I found some recipes to make my own dressing, good to know it keeps you regular though definitely need help with that. -
Thank you for the info! This journey is definitely interest to say the least. Does it take a full year for the stomach to heal or is that a case by case basis?

Why no iceberg lettuce?
janedoe92 replied to Lovelyladybee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow yeah I might change my mind, I'm just so tired of eating meat though, so I want to see how salads do when I can eat them, and it gives me more variety. -
Yeah I've noticed the density changes the amount, but even with things like chicken salad some days I can eat 4 oz some days 2 oz, so reheating doesn't seem like the problem, but I understand I'm not fully healed so I just go day by day doing what is suggested by my team and works for me. I still also measure/weigh (sorry for confusion I use those terms for the same thing but essentially I weigh) not going more than 4 oz but don't always eat that because I listen to my body. As for my DS my sleeve is actually the same size as others that my surgeon does that just get VSG. I don't have the traditional DS, so I also absorb more than someone with traditional DS.
-
I'm probably the outlier here because I pretty much listen to my body. I measure out my food regardless but never can handle the same amount all the time (if that makes sense). So I get a kind of lump feeling in my chest and that's when I know that's the last bite.

Why no iceberg lettuce?
janedoe92 replied to Lovelyladybee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Salads can be full of protein though, no? Less lettuce more meats, eggs, and things like that? At least this is what I plan to do when I am able to eat salads again. -
Never thought I'd regret it...but here I am
janedoe92 replied to janedoe92's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'm not sure if y'all read my last post, but I've since gotten closer to one of my good friends and she's very helpful and we actually go in hikes and do stuff together outside of drinking/partying. I was just in a dark place and for a 23 year old who is used to that kind of socializing it was hard to get used to. I'm still going to talk to someone because IMO no matter how prepared you feel about WLS nothing compares to the reality of it, and I just need some more guidance, and I feel counseling will help a lot with that. Thank you all for your input, it is greatly appreciated!
