why is the gym so hard!

Personally I would rather watch paint dry than walk on a treadmill for an hour. But I love classes. I can do a spin/cycle class everyday and never get bored of it. Have you tried a Les Mills type class? They're great fun, huge calorie burners and they're not boring in the least. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Starving!

Jackie, I can't help but feel that if you are a revision you should have known to do your research prior to your op. That includes post op diet, planning ahead & requesting information if it isn't provided to you. I don't mean to be harsh but you have to get on top of this. Ideas for exercise

Your can get a great workout from boxing. Upper body weights, push ups, sit ups. You could even do a pump/weights class and just don't do anything that hurts your knees (like lunges). Doing laps in the pool also burns calories like nobody's business. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    October sleevers?

Me !! First week of October. From Queensland, Australia. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  5. Hi all I'm pre-op, due to have band to sleeve revision in October 16. I have a serious sugar addiction. I'll eat really well for 6 months then completely fall off the wagon and eat a whole block of chocolate or a packet of biscuits before bed every night. This has been a pattern in my life for the last 10 years or so. My question is for those who have seriously 'fallen off the wagon'. For those who don't dump, how much sugar can you eat before your body says no? Can you physically eat a tub of ice cream or a packet of biscuits? I'm so scared of getting this operation and having history repeat itself, where my sugar addictions take control. Any info you can give me about this is much appreciated. Need a little pep talk

@@tiffanyt Congrats on the 100+ pounds. Can I ask if you've tried amping up your workouts? If you think you're doing ok with your nutrition and Water intake I would suggest really upping the intensity of your exercise. Your body (or metabolism) is not the same as it was 100 or even 50 pounds ago, so you have to push even harder to get it working. Just a thought. Good luck Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Need a little pep talk

@@Jane1979 I'm not one to tell people what to do, but DON'T DO IT. There are so many things you can't eat and most of those things are the healthy foods like meat & salad. You get so sick of being stuck and throwing up that you teach yourself to eat the slider foods. My band has been unfilled now for 3 years and I still vomit up food occasionally. Your family want you to get the band but believe me, your family (like mine) will have to witness you vomiting your food up at almost every meal. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Well, I guess I deserved it!

I'm not sleeved yet but my sister has been sleeved for a year and a half and still cannot eat "sugar free" artificially sweetened foods. It goes straight through her. I wonder if there was artificial sweetener in the yoghurt. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  9. I enjoyed reading this thread so much that I'm bringing it back!! My peeve of the week. I want to be a personal trainer and my best friend told me if I get the surgery I will be a hypocrite because I'm supposed to be setting an example for my clients and leading a healthy lifestyle "the natural way". Shoulder pain - ice or heat?

I'm in a world of pain at the moment with this and someone suggested to me a yoga pose where you stand upright and lift each leg with your knee to your chest (like marching but standing still), and keep doing this back and forth for a few minutes. This apparently gets the gas moving. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Did you sweat less after surgery?

This is music to my ears. I can't tell you how excited this makes me. @@DaisyAmy Swamp monster. Lol. You sum it up so well. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  13. Thanks girls. That's good to know. I know it's different for everyone but I'm hoping I won't miss food or regret my decision. Congrats on your weight loss so far Krakow57. You should be super stoked. @ I read a post of yours about your fears & temptation to cancel and it was like I'd written the post myself. You shared every single one of my fears. The loose skin fears because my BMI is not that high, the social aspects, the 'can I do it myself?' question. How do you feel about all of that 3 months post op? 14. Hi all I will be having band to sleeve revision around November this year but have also been planning a 1-2 year overseas holiday, leaving in March next year. It'll be roughly 4 months post op when I leave. (Going to Japan, India, Sri Lanka & Nepal in the first few months then settling in Mexico). I'm worried that going travelling will interfere with what I see as the most important first few months of my weight loss 'journey'. My concerns are: * that I will have trouble finding the right foods to fuel my body. * that I won't be able to exercise or tone my body the way I would if I stayed at home * that other travellers will notice how little I eat and comment/judge. I would be so grateful for any advice you could give me. Am I worrying about nothing? Or should I postpone my holiday? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  15. Thanks Bufflehead. I really appreciate your reply. You hit the nail on the head. I do want to exercise so that I have less loose skin and I think that is my biggest concern. I know that a lot of people say it can't be done but I have read so many articles and even my surgeon said it helps to reduce loose skin. Who knows? It can't hurt right? I'm definitely committed to finding the right foods. I've lived in Mexico before so I think the hardest thing will be fighting the urge to eat all those amazing tortillas. (I'm Australian). Thanks again for your response. You've put my mind at ease. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  16. Hi Krakow57 Thanks. Good to hear you are doing well and thanks for sharing your story. (I can't see any info on people's ticker for some reason). The question that keeps coming to the forefront of my mind is will I miss food? Will I look at all this amazing food and regret that I can't eat it? My friends and family are super social and food is always on the agenda. Did you or do you still struggle with this? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  17. Although I know the band has been successful for a lot of people, I think it's an evil, soul sucking device that should be banned (get it?). The band doesn't teach us to eat healthy. I could never eat salads, vegetables or meat. Instead we learn to eat the foods that are easiest to get down so we don't spend the night in the bathroom. I haven't been sleeved yet, but I have no doubt it'll be 100 times more effective than the band. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  18. Hi all. I know I'm a bit late to the party but just stumbled across this thread and thought I'd say hello from Brisbane. I'm getting band to sleeve revision in 2 months and am crapping myself. Any words of encouragement? How is everyone going with their weight loss? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  19. Frankly, I can't believe you found a doctor who would actually do the surgery. That is a low BMI. Yes, at 22 you could have done it yourself and kept it off. Maybe not 52 pounds, but 35? You'd be 155. That's a great weight. "Yes, at 22 you could have done it yourself and kept it off". I feel like this comment is pretty hypocritical. Regardless of age, if we could do it ourselves we wouldn't have resorted to surgery. I'm now 33 and have been doing it myself for 10 years, losing, gaining, losing etc. Why not do it now so she can save herself the heart ache of going through what so many of us have gone through for 10, 20, 30+ years?
