1 week weigh in post op

If you're scared to weigh & are questioning when the right time is than I would follow Bufflehead's advice and don't weigh just yet. I wasn't scared. I was excited and impatient and I couldn't wait to weigh myself. I lost about 3 kgs the first week (I think that's like 7 pounds). I also know someone who gained 5 pounds. Just be prepared for the fact that you might not like what you see. (But maybe you will). Good luck in any case. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  2. I'm guessing a lot of comments you read about low calories were from women? As a male your BMR is naturally higher than a female, and you burn more calories than we do just standing still. (Not cool btw). Depending on your weight & the walking you're doing, I'd say you're at least 1000 calories in deficit per day. Which is still really really good. October sleevers?

I've just started to have that empty feeling over the past 2 days and although I'm not hungry it's my body's way of saying ah maybe you should eat something now. You should definitely keep losing on 1000 calories a day as it'll be below your BMR, but it may become slower the further along you get. I know most newbies are on around 600-800 at this stage but it's not to say you won't lose weight. Have you tried upping your water/liquid intake? I find if I'm drinking all day, that gives me a full feeling. Question dumping?

Thanks. I never realised you could dump from drinking too fast. I never want to go through that again, though I'm sure I will as I'm only 3 weeks post op and still don't know what my body will handle. Diarrhea is one thing, but this was a whole new ball game. It was like food poisoning. Not fun. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    October sleevers?

I'm 3 weeks also. I'm probably getting around 400-500. Some days less. But honestly it's because I just couldn't be bothered eating. I'm not in that mindset yet of forcing myself so I wouldn't use me as an example because I'm a bit naughty. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Question dumping?

@@LipstickLady & @ I've just had my first dumping experience. Exactly the way you describe yours. Half an hour after I drank 3/4 cup of milk with sustagen in it. (Not sure if you have it there. It's an Australian Meal Replacement like opti fast). I had the same thing last night but with no effects. Can you dump from drinking too fast? Or is it just a matter of what your body tolerates one day it may not the next? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Time off

I'm taking 4 weeks off. I was supposed to go back after 3 but didn't feel ready. Like others, I felt dizzy and light headed if I was up for too long. I will also add that I've developed a bit of insomnia, so I'm seriously struggling to fall asleep at night and then toss and turn all night. I'd say that hasn't helped much with getting me back to my normal self. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I DONT KNOW HOW TO APPROACH THIS

It may just be that he's uneducated & ignorant & feeling a bit insecure. My father still makes comments 8 years after I was banded that leave my mind boggled. And it's solely due to ignorance. Your bf will need to get on board really fast. You will vomit. A lot. And it's not easy for people to see you doing that meal after meal. You'll know soon enough whether he's going to be supportive or not. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  9. Hi all Long story short, my male housemate doesn't know about my surgery and I don't really want to tell him. But all I can think is that surely he will notice? I used to eat large quantities of food and now I eat out of the smallest bowl in the world. He also often cooks us dinner out of the blue & I don't know what I'll do if that happens. The reason I don't want to tell him is because a) he's super skinny and I don't think he'll understand and his girlfriend is also a close friend of ours and I'm sure he'll tell her and it will end up going around our whole group. I'm really struggling with this. Should I just tell him? Advice? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Should I tell my housemate?

@@blizair09 I also had my gallbladder removed so I told him it was because of that. @@WLSResources/ClothingExch I was on a 2 week preop diet where I was allowed to eat 100g of Protein & 2 cups of vegies for dinner. So I just told him I was cutting portions etc. Thanks so much to everyone for your opinions and advice. I really appreciate it. I think I will hold off telling him for as long as I can. Should I tell my housemate?

He has many endearing qualities and I don't expect that he'll run and tell everyone, but I think when it comes to partners people tend to tell them everything. It's just unfortunate that she's also in my group of friends. I don't know about you but there are very few people I know of who you can tell a secret to and they don't tell at least 1 person. Should I tell my housemate?

Maybe I should move out. Lol. I'm 3 weeks post op and have been staying at my parents for the recovery/liquid/purée stage. But yes, he's definitely going to notice. That's my dilemma. I think it's a no win situation. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  13. If your gym is anything like my gym, I could be standing in the middle of the room naked doing a dance and they still wouldn't notice. Why? Because people are so into themselves that most of them are either looking at themselves in the mirror or are busy taking selfies for their latest IG post. I understand how you feel, but majority of people are just there doing their thing and if they notice you they're probably thinking good for her. There are people who will judge you but we can't avoid those people in life, and it's their issue not yours. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Almonds

@@PLEZ Can I ask why it's not cutting it? Are you hungry? Before my op I did my research on the highest Protein sources and I keep a list in my journal for easy reference. For Snacks I would recommend Greek yogurt, a hard boiled egg, 1/2 cup cottage/ricotta cheese, or edamame... I don't think there is anything wrong with snacking on a few nuts BUT almonds are 3.9 grams of protein per 20 gram serve which is around 120 calories. Plain low fat Greek yogurt however is 16.5 grams of protein for a whole tub and depending on what brand, is around the same calories as 20g of nuts. So you're getting 16.5g protein vs 3.9g for the same calories, and yogurt will fill you longer. *sorry for the novel :/ Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    October sleevers?

I understand your fears and anxiety. I felt the same way and was really emotional leading up to the surgery. I'm now 3 weeks post op and have recovered really well. I had manageable pain levels the day after surgery, mostly from gas and was mostly pain free 2 days post op. Your tummy doesn't actually hurt which I found strange. It's more of an indigestion or heartburn feeling. I did really well with taking in liquids and purées and I'm now in the soft foods stage and doing fine with that also. I know everyone is different so I can only speak for myself but it was so much easier than I thought it would be. Good luck. Try not to think about it too much. You'll be fine. Loved ones not supportive.

This is probably why I'm single. I always wonder at what stage in a relationship does one person start to claim ownership over the other, or think they have a right to tell you what to do, what to spend, who to see. You're your own person. Just because you're in a relationship with someone doesn't mean they suddenly own you. F*** that. Sorry OP, I have misplaced anger issues. AFTER SURGERY SLEEPING PROBLEMS

I've always been a great sleeper. But I'm now 3 weeks post op and I lay awake for hours trying to fall asleep, then once I'm asleep I toss and turn all night & wake up tired. @@thisisthenewme That's really interesting about the ketosis. I'd love to really delve into why this happens. (Cause I ain't impressed). I'm going to ask my surgeon at my next follow up. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  19. Hi all I'm 15 days post op and although I have a plan from my nutritionist on what types of food to eat, she doesn't set me any goals. I've lost 13 pounds since surgery & I'm worried I'm not getting enough calories or hindering my weight loss. (I'm still super happy with 13 pounds though). I was wondering if ya'll could share your Protein goals, your carb limit and your average calorie goal for the day? And does this remain the same once you're on full foods? (I'm currently on soft foods) Many thanks for any advice you could offer Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Help!

I know it's hard with the limited energy that we have so early on, but try & keep busy. It helps keep your mind off food & head hunger. When you're feeling low, try and think of all the amazing things you can do once the weight starts coming off, and the reasons you wanted the surgery in the first place. And I'd also suggest getting to the gym as soon as you're cleared to do so. Exercise is a great anti-depressant & doing a class opens doors to meeting new people. 22. They gave me a banana shake in the hospital 2 days post op. I know they have sugar in them but they're also full of potassium & other good Vitamins. I personally would rather put something natural in my body than SF syrups full of chemicals & 0 nutrients. Just don't go crazy with them. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  23. Try chicken broth or miso Soup. Honestly I know everyone preaches on here about getting in your Protein but I don't think it's as important in those first couple of weeks as getting in your fluids. You won't be hospitalised for not getting enough protein but you will for dehydration. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    October sleevers?

It's so tempting to try and skip ahead. I feel you. The hospital made me a banana milkshake the second day after my surgery. It was the best thing I've ever tasted. I was sleeved 2 days before you and I've been drinking shakes, thin Soups, yoghurt etc since day 2. Had no problems. I don't know what I'd do having to be on clear liquids for so long, so you're doing awesome. I've lost 8 pounds since surgery (I'm 6 days post op). Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Sex after two weeks

I have a question for the women (sorry HFFM). During your....happy ending, does your stomach not hurt from the convulsing?
