  1. I should've made myself more clear, I meant that the food was probably no longer in her stomach. Yes, I fully encourage the OP to relay everything to her surgeon and closely monitor herself for any potential problems.

    Paranoid

I do indeed, I had all the same fears but I've lost 28 lbs all together, 22 since my surgery. I started at a lower BMI so my loss is slower than others. Don't worry!
  3. Just watch for anything abnormal I'd say. If you get stomach pain/fever that can indicate a staple line leak which is serious and you definitely should call your surgeon and tell him the entire story. If this was last night the food has likely already cleared your system and it seems like you got lucky and didn't cause any serious damage but closely monitor for any new symptoms!

    Paranoid

To the OP, I actually made a similar post. I'm not going to say recovery was a "breeze" because getting past a major surgery is never pleasant, but I also had very few of the issues others experienced. After day 3 I could get in all my fluids and Protein and could even drink Water pretty fast. I tolerated everything I tried and never vomited or had bad stomach pain. No constipation, no incision pain (just a little itchiness). It was still VERY tough to stick to my diet plan because I didn't feel so awful and wanted to eat, but I made it through. I had 2 meltdowns where I cried out of frustration because the liquid diet was so tough. I was also just waiting for the other shoe to drop and even now I can't totally shake the feeling that I got off too easy. I'm 7 weeks out and started solids a few days ago also with basically no problems. There are days where I feel crappy or overly tired but I mostly feel fine. I think we just got lucky!

    Paranoid

I'm 6 days post op. And I'm supposed to start on Protein shakes next week and start introducing solids at week 3. Today I went against my clear liquids and ate so much and I'm freaking out a bit. Sent from my SM-G530T using the BariatricPal App What did you eat? Like solid foods or full liquids? Even if you feel fine it is SO dangerous to be off your plan only 6 days out.

    First Thanksgiving

I had 2 dinners to attend. I just got cleared for solid food so I probably ate a bit more than I should've but it still only added up to a few ounces of food. At the time it felt like I was eating tons but in reality it was more like 1/2 slice of turkey, maybe a few tbs of green bean casserole, 2 bites of cornbread stuffing, a bit of gravy, and 1 tbs of rice across both meals. My one screw up was the gooey butter cake, I thought I could have just a bite but it's more of a slider and I ended up eating 1/2 a piece. I insisted a guest take that home so I wouldn't be tempted by it's evil gooey goodness again. Hopped on the scale this morning and it was down 0.4 lb since yesterday so I guess I didn't overdo it too hard!
  7. and PS, get ready for several more weeks of feeling deprived. Each stage gets a little easier but but I don't think any of us breezed through them all without feeling hungry or being tempted. You must mentally prepare that the next 6 weeks are just going to be tough.
  8. I can't believe you were able to eat that much! I'm not scolding you, just surprised. You obviously know this was a huge screw up so us telling you that isn't going to accomplish anything. I'd be carefully watching for symptoms that you did any damage. Make sure you tell your surgeon and your post op appt even if nothing bad happens. The first week is super hard, it sucks. It is SO important to stick to your recovery plan. No one can force you to stick with it in the future but just realize the HUGE risk you are taking by advancing your food plan several stages this early on. I was sleeved 10/11 and was not approved for solids until this week. Even though I was dyyyying to eat and tolerated everything I knew I had to tough it out. Don't put your health on the line. The diet advancement stages seem like forever when you're in them but you must follow instructions and suffer through it.
  9. same here! in my mind i dont look so huge but then i see a photo and UGH. im just barely post op but in the past i did lose a very large amount of weight and get down to a "normal" bmi. the only change that i didn't like was being FREEZING all the time, lol. totally worth it, but that's the only thing i remember!
  10. Everyone is different but most experiences I have heard about did not involve terrible pain. I was off painkillers by day 3 and my incisions never bothered me other than a bit of itchiness. I was tired more than anything and could only stay awake for a few hours at a time the first few days, but this always happens to me after surgery. Anesthesia hangover was worse for me than the pain.

    Thanksgiving..

I am just over 7 weeks out and got cleared Tuesday to eat mostly anything. I had 2 dinners to go to and had a small plate with a bit of everything except rolls 3 hours apart. At the first dinner I loaded up a full plate and my husband ate most of it. I didn't want to sit there with a tiny plate but I also didn't want to leave a plate full of food. I had turkey (moist dark meat), a bit of GB casserole, a deviled egg, and a couple of bites of cornbread stuffing. The second meal wasn't traditional Tday and I had a bit of chicken, a tiny (maybe 1 tablespoon) serving of rice along with a few more green Beans. The only thing that got me were the Desserts, most of them were sliders and I definitely had a bit more than I should've but that's okay. Just thinking about how much I ate last year... My total amount for both meals and dessert didn't even come close to what my first plate was in previous years!
  12. So, I've been pretty good so far (6 weeks post) and have kept my sugars really low but today I blew it. I had 1/8 cup of soft serve ice cream I feel like a total failure and I'm so disappointed in myself! Just needed to confess to someone!
  13. Also in regards to carbs, my doc told me that during puree/soft foods not to worry about them but once I get past that I should no longer eat things like mashed potatoes and other slider foods with simple carbs.
  14. The first couple of days suck, as with any surgery. I was off pain meds by day 3. Everyone is different but I think most people are feeling much better by 1 week post.
  15. K. I cannot even imagine going another round with @GinaCampbell. To the OP, you will hear 95% of posters say they have no regrets or only regret doing it sooner. Others will say they do regret it and I hope you take the time to find out why as this may help you with your decision. Maybe they weren't informed about some key point that is now causing that regret or maybe there was a mitigating circumstance. I'm sure there are also some out there who simply regret having the constant dietary restrictions. Do as much research as you can, make sure you know what you're getting into and that like any surgery there is a risk for post op complications. Most of those complications will ease up over time but things like future gall bladder removal, post op infections, and strictures are real potential issues that exist. I have noticed a lot on this board that some people who are unhappy with their decision did not understand all the consequences of this decision. That being said, most of us love our sleeves and are happy with our decisions. Some people took weeks to adjust to the new restriction, and some took days. You may have problems with getting in foods and fluids at first, I myself have days where getting in enough Protein is a struggle but from what I've seen and heard from vets this is most likely a temporary issue. Is it worth it? YES YES 100% for me. I am down 25 lbs in a little over a month and finally feel like I have found a way to get back control over my eating issues.
  16. What exactly would you like me to tell? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Oh based on what I remember and from skimming that thread again you had IBS severely even before surgery, contracted C Diff, had acid reflux beforehand which your team did not tell you could get worse (which is odd because in the US they usually switch you to bypass if you have reflux b/c the sleeve can make it worse), had a team who didn't inform you of many of the possible risks like food aversions or post op nausea.. etc etc. I just think it's important to give context when you're telling people that the surgery was the biggest mistake of your life. For those who are still considering it is good to hear all sides but people who have significant health problems before surgery may want to read your story and reconsider.
  17. K, once again I'm not sure where I placed any blame on any patient. Also it would be helpful if the people who regret it would say WHY they regret it.
  18. Not sure when I said that she was the only one who had issues or that it was her fault? I happened to have made a similar post before I went into surgery that Gina responded to and then also read a VERY long thread she started here: http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/374230-post-op-regrets-topics-not-popular/ When she responded to my post it really gave me great pause about moving forward with the surgery, but once I read through some of her other posts I realized that there was some information missing. All I was saying is that there are other things that can factor into regret of surgery, not sure why you took it so personally?

    Week 3 blues

I am 5 weeks and some days (like today) I still struggle with getting enough food in. On certain days my body just isn't into it and nothing sounds appetizing or I feel full/nauseous after a few bites. My doc told me that if any food stage is a struggle you may not be ready for it and there's nothing wrong with going back to the previous stage for a while.
  20. I regretted it for a solid week and a half. Like, actual "I really wish I could undo this" regret. Then I went into a stage of being okay but not happy with it. I also wasn't losing for a few weeks immediately after surgery so that did not help my frame of mind. With every new food stage I felt better and more human, I'm counting down the days until I can have a piece of chicken or some ground turkey (2 more weeks!). I think the beginning is just hard, harder than a lot of us thought it would be. @@GinaCampbell I know you've had your fair share of issues but from previous posts it doesn't sound like your surgical team was the best and you had some previous health problems. I'm not dismissing your issues, but make sure you tell the full story to someone who is contemplating surgery.

    Not feeling sleeved at all

Well I definitely couldn't have eaten a half can of chili, but I had no problem drinking. I can basically gulp Water since just a few days out. As long as you're staying within your diet and not consuming too many calories/carbs/etc then I wouldn't worry about it. Everyone is different.

    Is this a normal fear?

I did have some emotional/mental meltdowns though. By the end of week 2 I was SO over the liquid diet. I also didn't lose anything from day 7 to day 21, so that was another issue for me. You may be lucky physically but it might not be quite so easy mentally and emotionally in the coming weeks, just try to prepare as much as you can!
  23. ella37

    Is this a normal fear?

Sounds like you just got lucky to me. My recovery was not terribly difficult either. After day 3 I could basically gulp water and never had issues getting my fluids or protein down with the exception of a day here or there. I also went off pain meds on day 3 and I have yet to vomit even once. I think recovery goes well for a lot of people but we just don't hear those stories as much since people are much likelier to post or ask questions if something isn't going right.

    Scared

I'm always scared to be put under, I think that's fairly normal. It's a weird experience though, not quite like taking a nap for me because it feels like no time passes at all. It's like you blink and it's over. Youll be fine.
