  1. Do you have a physical or desk job? Everyone is different and some people were back at work after a week or even less. I'd say to give yourself 2 weeks just in case. Unless you have a physically demanding job, then it will likely be more.
  2. The best advice is just to sip sip sip if you're having trouble. Try different liquids at different temperatures and do the best you can. I was lucky and only struggled for the first few days but a lot of people had trouble for weeks. Youll get there!

    This is a trip!

I stalled after just seven days and I was pissed. I stalled for 2 weeks, not even losing .5/lb. I was self pay and thought maybe this whole thing was just a HUGE waste of time and money. Week 3 I dropped 9 lbs, so I assume my body was holding onto Water weight for a while. I've since lost 3 more this week. It will break, I know it sucks, but it will as long as you stay on plan!

    Advice needed!

Not totally sure why you wouldn't be able to go, unless you're still feeling very bad. I'm a little over a month and can go out fine. Fake drinking seems ridiculous, is there really going to be that much peer pressure? Just tell them you're tired or you've been having some stomach problems and don't feel like drinking.
  5. Very, VERY common. How far out are you? If you were in Nov you can't even be 2 weeks, maybe less depending on your date. This is a problem for most people at the beginning.
  6. First puree meal and it's AWESOME. I feel like a human being again. For anyone who hasn't seen this recipe: Shelly's Ricotta Bake 8 oz of Ricotta Cheese 1/2 cup grated Parmesan 1 large Egg, beaten 1 teaspoon Italian Seasoning salt & pepper to taste 1/2 cup Marinara Sauce 1/2 cup shredded Mozzarella cheese Mix ricotta cheese, parmesan, beaten egg, seasonings together and place in a oven proof dish. Pour marinara on top and top with mozzarella cheese. Bake it in the oven @ 450 for about 20-25 minutes (best) or nuke it till hot and bubbly. I usually made it first in the oven and heated the leftovers in the microwave. Eating it very slow and only having 1/8 of the pan (it's a tiny pan, about 1/4 of a normal glass baking pan) for now, hopefully it goes okay! For those on liquid, soon you will feel much better, just a few bites and my spirits are way up!
  7. My doc told me that some people actually gain the first week due to Fluid retention. As far as the liquid thing.. it SUCKS. I don't think you'll find anyone on here that enjoyed it, but it's a necessary part of healing. Can you have any yogurt or anything on full liquids?
  8. Also I've noticed in other weight loss groups that sometimes people just post for encouragement instead of advice. They're really looking to hear other's tell them that what they're doing is okay, or that everyone does it. Those kind of posts get sticky when the general consensus is that they should stop.
  9. Says the newbie who has no idea what they are talking about. She was talking about the OP saying that she was using popsicles as her new way to cope with needing to chew. No need to jump all over her.
  10. Fiiiiinally. I've heard a lot about the dreaded week 3 stall but I stalled from 7 days post op until week 3, then dropped 9 lbs this week! 3 lbs just since yesterday. I assume it was some Water I was holding onto that finally left because I know you can't actually lose 3 lbs over night, but it's sure good to see that scale move. I was really feeling like this was a failure and waste of money (self pay), but now that I see it really was just a stall on the scale I feel newly motivated. I'll have to remember this for next time!

    Regular Diet

I wasn't allowed most veggies for 6 months. (Not "calling you out", just using your plan as an example vs mine. ) I was also on 2-3oz at a serving and FULL was not an option. To the OP. Every plan is different. Check with your surgeon. Maybe you can help me b/c my plan is similar. The rule is stop eating as soon as you stop feeling hungry.. but for me that's usually like 2 bites. How am I supposed to get in enough protein if I'm stopping eating at 1 oz? I had to eat small and eat often. It took me about 9 months to start hitting my protein goals and I still struggled with liquids, too. It taught me to graze which could be good/bad. I am 3.5 years out and still do 6ish "meals" a day. No choice. If I make bad choices, it's bad. If I make good choices, it's great! Good to know. They want me to get to a point soon where I'm eating 3 meals a day and I just can't imagine handling that volume any time in the near future. Maybe I'll end up being a snacker too.
  12. My doc said don't push yourself with advancing the diet, you can get enough nutrition with full liquids so if at any point you're struggling just go back to that for a while. Maybe you're just not ready!

  14. I think liquid diet is typical. I know a few people who got to do a low fat/low carb but most of us had the liquid. It is really hard and it sucks and I cheated with can of tuna twice. My surgeon was pretty much like, just do your best and try not to cheat, so I think he was less concerned than some. I asked if I could go home that day but was told no. After the surgery, I was glad of the overnight stay. It's a major surgery and it's nice to have nurses there to monitor you and keep your meds straight. If something is going to go wrong right afterwards I'd rather be there. They offered me to stay another night but I went home after 1. That being said, I know this can be done as outpatient so I guess maybe just see how you're feeling afterwards? The anesthesia and pain meds had me pretty out of it.

    Regular Diet

8 weeks here for me as well. I am also following low carb but it will be nice to have some ground turkey or a piece of chicken.

    Wrong decision?

You will keep getting better! A lot of people have trouble with all the liquids at first. You'll be great
  17. Frustrated. I am 11 days post op. I lost 7 the first week and 6 the week of pre op diet. Just weighed myself today and I am at the EXACT same weight (to the 0.2 of a lb) as I was on day 7. I know everyone has stalls but it's super tough to see this early on. I wasn't expecting a huge loss in 4 days but to just see the number at exactly 222.2 really annoyed me. Is a stall THIS early common? Please don't lecture me here, I know that stalls happen but I'm feeling very unhappy.
  18. very well said !!! Some people just don't realize you are given a plan for a reason they think bc they can tolerate well let's try it bodybjustbwent through a lot and as a nurse I'm just amazed that people don't sit back and think about everything they're stomach has just gone through. And honestly if my doctors or NUT did not go over the post op plans I would NOT have had my surgery through them my doctors office explained everything a few times and also told me no matter what questions I have to not hesitate in calling them!!! I would not have gone through with a plan that I was so unsure of the stages afterwards let alone wasn't given instructional information on. Did you have any type of nutrition classes? Or booklets given to you I was given packets several of them two books and a folder of papers all which explains step by step and not only was I given them but we went over them one on one page by page for 6 months!!! I'm just baffled by this. I would definitely not touch anything but liquids tho till you get in contact with someone and maybe look for a different surgeon for after care that can explain more if they didn't go over any of that info Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App This is a good point that I didn't even think of. I wonder if OP had a pre op nutrition class. That's also where I got my paperwork on post op plan.
  19. If 5 days out was Halloween then you're 10 days out? I was on purees at this point and could eat about 2 oz, or 1/4 cup at a sitting. I could basically gulp water at one week out. I also had staples but didn't have any problem with them. You can't really give up, lol. 85% of your stomach is gone forever!! Yes, cheese sticks and chicken tenders at day 5 was probably a big mistake. I'm not cleared for anything like chicken tenders until week 8. However, you need to talk to your team and tell them. You broke a rule and you're definitely not the first. You need to get a list of appropriate foods and amounts! I'm shocked at how many people got so little post op info from their doctors.
  20. I am averaging 60 to 70. I'm trying to cut back on Protein shakes but I'm still having 1 and 1/2 a day.
  21. I can't have any ground meats until like week 8, and trust me.. I'm dying to throw some ground turkey into some of the stuff I'm making. I could have eggs starting week 3, so technically 2 weeks after my surgery date. I tried to get them to push me up to purees after only a week b/c I was also feeling fine and tolerating everything. My NUT explained to me that it's not about what you're tolerating. They set up the diet so your stomach can heal inside. I grudgingly did the week of full liquids, lol. I have followed their instructions to a T and have not had any issues or vomiting. I know it sucks but if you can't get a hold of your surgeon I would stick to liquids until you can. As far as sausage, I wouldn't go anywhere near it for a while. I'm also shocked you didn't get a post op plan.

    Smoking after surgery

I quit for about a week after the sleeve. I really wanted to stop permanently but between the pain and no food and no caffeine or sugar I just couldn't take it. I started up again around 8 days out. I'm going to try quitting again once I get to eat normal food again and have my diet regulated. Yes, I know it's bad for me but I just couldn't give up everything at once. I have had no ill effects.
  24. I am 3 weeks out and tonight we made tuna patties that had breadcrumbs, no problems here.

    Soft Foods

Are you not allowed to have juice? I don't think I can yet because of the sugar content and high carbs. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App ahhh ok. i was allowed to have it watered down from day 1.
