I told limited people and waited till a couple of weeks before surgery to do that. My kids were stunned. Worried about how risky it was and then acted as if I didn't tell them. Another family member, who never dealt with weight, stated how all she had to do to be healthy was make a life style change. People who haven't dealt with the physical and emotional pain of obesity don't understand doing this. We are doing it for ourselves. Good luck to you.

What a bean chili, crustless quiche, bean enchiladas using low carb wraps. I make a Soup with kale, red kidney Beans , broth salt and garlic. Fill stock pot with kale add 2 cans Beans cover with broth, season simmer for 3 hours. Good for Iron and Fiber too. Hang in there☺. Good for you for getting back on track.

I was told we had to lose weight. I lost 15 lbs. When I went for my last preop visit I was told if I gained they would not do the surgery. The Dr needs to move your liver which needs to be pliable. That means high Protein, low carb, limit alcohol. You're having major surgery. You need to be in the best health you can be for it.

Thank you this is very helpful. As previous posters have mentioned, don't think of this as a diet. It's a lifestyle change and you are essentially giving your relationship with food and eating a total overhaul!
Following your surgeon's instructions post-op is really exceedingly important, because as people have mentioned, your tummy is still healing. Forcing food into it that it isn't ready for yet can cause staples to pop, tears, blockages, and all sorts of scary, scary things to happen that will make your recovery time longer and more painful.
It is very difficult to deal with lack of variety when it comes to food post-op, so I feel you there! The World According to Eggface and Bariatric Foodie have some great recipes and ideas for noms that are suitable for various stages post-op so that you can whip up something tasty and different!
Here are links to their sites:

Lots of luck!

Would it help him to have a reality check if he watched the video Of the surgery with you? Visuals can be very impactful especially since on the outside there's only a few incisions. Its recognizing what actually happens internally. If he doesn't get it then, he probably won't. Good luck.

Reflexology is wonderful, especially if not ready or comfortable with massage.

I had mine in the 13th and I asked the Dr at my follow up, he said it's fine. It won't be like that with food though????

This is a wonderful forum and it's imperative that we newbies get to hear from those of you post surgery on your knowledge and experience. The commonality is that at one point and more, in our lives we were all consumed with compulsion, justifying our overeating, binge eating, laughing off the 3rd slice of pizza. Please understand that calling people stupid is not helpful. They are in a sad and dangerous place. Ridicule will only stop them for asking for guidance and support. I know it's frustrating but try to remember other people's frustration with us as they watched us "in the food" gaining weight, getting unhealthy, making bad choices. We've all had enough ridicule on our lives. We are at different points on this path, different strengths, different abilities. It's easy to ridicule its hard to understand sometimes.

I didn't get any good in the hospital. There is a bariatric wing. We were given little cups of Water and ice chips. Nothing else.

Your insides won't be healed and I doubt it would be safe. Check with your Dr. Better safe

It's not about a chicken nugget or a pizza it about readiness and emotional wellness. Not everyone is fully prepared before this change. Sad because it's so dangerous.

I get it on Patches.com. it the multiplus. I ordered 4 months worth. To get in the habit I keep them in my bathroom and change with morning shower. According to my Drs practice it covers all the needs and I don't take anything else.

Walking frequent short walks really helps the gas and prevents complications

The patch is great. It covers all the Vitamins in the right amounts. It costs about $20 for the month. Stress free and easy.

Can you share the pudding recipe and carb count pleaseIt is delicious, but it does have a decent amount of sugar in it. You can buy plain powdered Peanut Butter that is a little more nutritionally sound, but really for the amount that you are eating, it's fine. I have some of the chocolate PB2 in my pantry, I use it to make chia pudding. (I am pre-op)
