  1. I'm in Central New York technically but I'm doing well. I had my surgery 12/30/16. I've lost 109 pounds so far and feel better than I have in years.
  2. I don't smoke so no help there but I waited 6 months for a drink per my Drs recommendation. I have no issue with drinking now, same tolerance as before but I feel like it's wasted calories so I never go beyond a glass of wine on occasion.
  3. Have you tried ricotta bake or refried beans with cheese and salsa? Those were two of my go-to meals during my pureed stage.
  4. Mine is coccyx pain for sure. My tailbone protrudes so much more now that it's not covered in fat. I had to get a pillow for work and it makes it better but sometimes the only thing that really helps is to get up and walk around and get the pressure off my butt.
  5. I never began to feel restriction until I started on soft solids. Also my hunger came back within a few weeks so your not alone in feeling hunger.
  6. I'm 7.5 months out and can eat 5-6 ounces depending on what it is that I'm eating. I'm also still losing weight though it has slowed down after about 5 months post op. I've lost 75 pounds since surgery (105 total) and my NUT said that she still things I can lose another 15-20 pounds which is my goal weight.
  7. I like the Atkins line of protein shakes and drinks.
  8. Looks great. Those first meals are so satisfying after the liquid diet. I also love to make refried beans with peach salsa blended and then with some melted cheese on top. So good.
  9. 7.5 months post op. I get between 900-1100 calories a day. Just saw my NUT last week, she wants me closer to the 1100 than the 900 and wanted me to up my carbs to about 100 grams a day so I've been working on that.
  10. My periods have been wacky since my surgery. The first 5 months or so they were super long, about 12 days, and now they are shorter but my cycle length is shortening it was about 28-29 days a month and the last 2 months it's only been about 24 days total. As for weight during my period I tend to stall the week of and the week after my period and will bounce up and down a couple pounds. This week I've gained 4 pounds and it's frustrating but I know it's all part of the cycle.
  11. I would mention it to your surgeon. If it was something that happened randomly then I wouldn't be so worried but if it's a everyday occurrence, bring it up for sure. My surgeon did tell me if I need to take a sip here and there while eating it's fine but don't make a habit out of it.
  12. Went to American Eagle this weekend to get a pair of jeans, was able to shop items in the store (normally I had to buy online because they don't have "extended" sizes in our location) and found a pair of size 12 in my favorite style that fit. This time last year I was a tight 22.
  13. My surgeon said that he see's on average a 10 pound "bounce back" or regain from goal weight on most people. That's not to say that some people won't gain back more weight than that but he always set's his "goal" weight for us at 10 pounds lighter than he actually wants us to sit at long-term. Also my NUT bases her goals for us based on the percentage of excess fat she expects us to lose while the surgeon has less modest goals and is more focused on where he wants our BMI to hit. I think in these cases there will always be exceptions on both ends (those with no regain/very little regain and those with complete/excess regain) so only we can really set our journey and what we want out of surgery long-term. Start making smart choices early on and find a diet that works for you. Not everyone has the same triggers, so all we can do is advise based on personal experience
  14. I had a big stall in my 5th month, it lasted 5 weeks and when it finally broke my weightloss has been different, all part of the process according to my NUT. I was losing 2-3 pounds a week prior to 5 months. Since then I usually only lose 2 weeks a month, the week of and after my cycle I haven't lost anything in 2 months. I also only lose about 1-2 pounds most weeks when I do lose. I find that in order to break a stall I have to get lots of protein and then change my eating habits to shock my body a bit so I will eat a day of low calories then higher calories the next day or two then low again until the stall breaks. Also make sure your tracking your food!
  15. I like the Atkins shakes. They are the only ones that don't completely turn my stomach. I drink a lot of premier protein before surgery but I got to a point where I couldn't drink it afterwards. I also like the protein water Atkins makes.
  16. I've eaten Quinoa once or twice. I'm not really a big fan but I wasn't before surgery either. My program encourages us to eat small servings of grains and starches.
  17. Little update: The stomach virus post VSG is not fun. I got hit with it last Friday and it was awful, I had to call my surgeon and they said sometimes it's worse after bariatric surgery because the body is trying reject what's in the stomach but with our smaller stomachs there is less in there. I vomited 10 times in 7 hours and after the 3rd time there was nothing left to come up. I lost 10 pounds in 1 day.
  18. Try to puree some chili, It will provide you with the spice you need (spices never bothered me either) and still provide a good bit of nutrition and best of all protein.
  19. Walk as much as you can stand it. Also keep moving even when not walking. I would do shoulder rolls and arm movements to get the gas moving when I was sitting. Change positions frequently as well. My doc allows gas meds in the hospital so I did have those on board but I still had a lot of gas pain, I thought I was having a heart attack. It was much better by day 3 and 4. As for restriction, I didn't begin to really start to feel it until I started on soft solids, so about 4 weeks for me.
  20. I'm not diabetic but I had a horrible stomach virus last week and could not keep anything down. I tried Gatorade per my surgeons suggestions to prevent dehydration and it went down fine but it does seem so sweet. It's not something I would drink regularly or a lot of.
  21. I started Pureed at 2 weeks post op per my doctors plan and did pureed for 2 weeks before adding soft solids for 5 weeks.
  22. 6 days. I've had issues with constipation in the past while pregnant and now again post surgery. I still have issues at 7.5 months out sometimes. I've spoken to my NUT and she said fiber, so I've been working on upping my fiber and it's been better this month.
  23. Thank You. I am just shy of 5'10". Good luck with your RNY!
  24. HW: 301 Day of Surgery: 271 Current: 192 This before picture was about a month before my surgery, not my highest weight but right around 275. I cannot get over how amazing I feel, no regrets at all!
  25. My doctor said to wait 6 months. I've since had drinks on two occasions and it didn't effect me any differently than prior to surgery however, I have no real interest to drink because it bumps my calorie count. I will however order a glass of wine at social events and nurse it.
