You know you lost weight when

My skin is not to bad. My arms are the worst but a I carried a lot of weight in my arms. I still have a spare tire look to my belly but not super loose. My thoughts to my shock have bounced back great. Also I've noticed as my weight has slown down my skin has gotten better!

    Surgeon's expectations

My doctor only gave me an over all goal that he wants me to be at by 5 years post surgery. So 18-24 months of loss and then maintenance. His goal for me is 170 with 5 pounds of bounce back incorporated. That's the only goal he set for me, the rest of the goals I set myself at his urging. That being said I'm also Hypothyriod and a slower loser. I lost a lot right out of the gate but by 6 months I started slowing down. Months 9,10 and 11 I literally lost 1 pound each month. I'm currently sitting at 187, so 12 pounds from my over all goal at almost a year out. The way it's going now it will take me another 12 months to reach my goal if my weightloss stays at a pound a month but I'm hoping it will pick back up after this plateau.
  3. You look amazing. Good work

    5 Confessions (Join In)

Sleeved 12/30/16 HW: 301, SW: 271, CW: 187 I confess that I drink caffeinated unsweetened tea everyday. It's the only way I can get anywhere near my fluid goals. I confess I use a straw I confess that I get obsessed with the number on the scale to often and even though I weight myself daily I only count my weight on a weekly basis but the fluctuation daily makes me panic if I go up even though I know it's not fat. I confess that I've been stalled pretty much for 2 months and I'm freaking out even though I've lost far more than expected (113 lbs, my NUT predicted 86 pounds lost) surpassed all of my personal goals and am the healthiest I've been in years I still feel I'm a failure if I don't hit my surgeons goal (175 lbs). I confess I feel so weird when people call me skinny or thin or when people refer to me as a thin person because in my head I'm still 300lbs and plus sized. *Over this past weekend I was in a long line at Bath and Bodyworks and the ladies behind me were talking about Lane Bryant and frustration they were having with their return policy and the cost of their clothing in general. I chimed in my two cents about Lane Bryant and after I realized they were probably like "what is this thin b***h putting her 2 cents in" as I can clearly not shop in Lane Bryant anymore. I love eating out now more than ever because when we go out with friends I'm not the only woman to clear her plate. Now I eat as much as my thin friends and it makes me feel so normal.

    December Sleevers

How exciting for all of you! I had my surgery 12/30/16 and my life has changed for the better in so many amazing ways. I was right where you all are a year ago so I just wanted to pop in and offer my support and congrats.
  6. I have 6 scars. 5 from the surgical incisions and one from the drain. The only one that's visible still is the one from the drain. I'm about a year post op at this point.

You know you lost weight when

Thank you. I have about 12 pounds until my goal but weight loss has been super slow lately (1-2 pounds a month) so it's been a bit frustrating.
  8. The first two months will be the most trying of the process. Moving through the stages of the diet advancement and learning how to live with your new stomach is hard but it gets easier day by day and as the weight starts dropping off it become more and more rewarding. Almost a year post op and I have zero regrets. All the discomfort and pain in the beginning was worth it.

    Fast food

I'm almost a year post op and I have no issues with full fat mayo. My NUT is not a fan of the fat free trend and she said fat is good for the diet in moderation so I've always been okayed to use full fat condiments. Also an air fryer is a great investment in my opinion. My husband cooks in ours a lot. We also do things like oven baked fries or grilled potatoes when were having burgers, etc.

You know you lost weight when

Of course. I'm currently in a size 10-12 pants and small/medium top. Size 12 dress. I'm current 187 pounds as of this morning. First 2 were October 2016 @ about 275 lbs vs. October 2017 @ 190 lbs 3rd is my highest weight of 301 June 2016 and Thanksgiving day at 188lbs
  11. I've been stalled for 2 months as well. I was worried it was maintenance so I spoke to my nut and she said she didn't believe it was, that it was just a plateau. I switched up my diet (average 1100-1300 calories a day, 50-100 grams of carbs and protein was 60-70), exercise routine and on Monday I started really upping my protein. I'm getting about 90-100 grams now and I've lost a pound in 3 days, finally.
  12. Being able to interact with my kids better and chase them down much easier. Being able to purchase clothing anywhere and not having to pay an upcharge for a plus size. People's reaction when I tell them how much weight I've loss

    Gaining weight back

Truth, that's why I said if she truly gained 20 pounds on the intake she says she has she should see a doctor because that might be an underlying issue or a medication issue if she is taking any medications (some cause weight gain). But having to low an intake can stall you per my NUT and personal experience. Not make you gain for sure, but stall nontheless, so eating to little is not going to help the situation either. If she really is eating what she says she is.

    Upcoming surgery

Everyone is different and there are so many physiological changes that there is no guaranteed or average weight loss amount. Some of the things that can effect it is starting weight, gender, age, height, even ethnicity. I personally lost 35 pounds during the first 12 weeks. As for recipes there are a lot of great sites online that offer recipes for different stages of the diet. Even pintrest has boards with recipes. Just make sure you stick with your plan from your surgeon and follow the stages. As for mashed potatoes they are carbs but your intake is so little in the early stages that it's not going to make a drastic difference. I would add protein powder to everything I ate. Mashed potatoes, cream of wheat and refried beans were all allowed on my pureed diet and something I ate. I didn't start solids until 10 weeks on my plan. I was allowed to go back low impact cardio at 4 weeks and was released for regular exercise around 8-10 weeks I believe. I currently try and hit the gym 3 days a week but some weeks I'm lucky to get there at all. Just stay as active as you can and find little ways to get your steps in especially early out like parking as far away from the door in a parking lot as possible and when I'm shopping I make sure I walk down every aisle even if I don't need anything in that aisle. I also will park at the opposite end of the mall when I need to shop there. In the gym I do swimming, treadmill and elliptical mostly but next year I'm going to start dancing again.

    I have a question?

I still drink one a day and I'm 11 months out. For me higher protein intake equals better weight loss results so I like mine near 100 grams.
  16. I've had no issue tolerating anything thus far except for eggs so if you will be able to tolerate it depends on your stomach really. I took a family vacation 2 weeks after I started solids with my in-laws, sister in law, brother in law, my husband and our kids from NY to Florida and it was difficult to plan ahead but I found that if I stick to protein first there is usually an option. Also crackers are allowed on my plan so again, it all depends on your specific diet plan. I will eat crackers on occasion with no issues if I need a little starch in my diet.
  17. It gets better. I'm 11 months out and I can eat so much more than 4 bites now. I've found a new relationship with food where I still enjoy it but don't live to eat. I try to pick food that packs a lot of flavor in small portions. Think of gourmet food, many times the servings are very small but the food is very good.

    Alcohol

My doctor said 6 months and I waited the 6 months. Alcohol is no issue for me so I don't drink it very often. A glass of wine at special events or dinners is usually it for me. I suggest waiting your surgeons allotted time and then proceed with caution. As mentioned above some people are effected highly by alcohol and some aren't. My tolerance was the same as prior to surgery but I really don't want to waste the calories so that's a decision maker for me.
  19. Mine went crazy after surgery. My periods were super long and heavy. I even went to my GYN about 4 months post op who was going to put me on Mirena to try and regulate (not currently on hormonal birth control) but I decided to wait it out a few months and thankfully about 7-8 months post op I started to regulate.
  20. Sullie06

WHY IS THE SCALE GOING UP

Don't weight yourself everyday, it will make you crazy. My scale fluctuates so crazy if I weigh myself everyday. Gaining 2 pounds in one day is not fat, it's water. Up your fluid intake if you can. Also if your stalled a bit you may need to increase your calories as well. I would stall when they were to low.

    Gaining weight back

I would for sure talk to your doctor if you have gained 20 pounds on such small amount of intake. I would also try and increase what your eating because according to my NUT I should be around 100-1200 calories a day and not be supplementing my protein by 1 year post op. I know every plan is different but I'm concerned your eating to little and you body is holding onto whatever it can at this point.

    Great Low Carb Bread

Follow the advice of your surgeon or nut for sure. My team does not have us follow a super low carb diet personally. My carb goal daily is between 50-100 grams but I try and get those from veggies mostly, though I do eat some bread and pasta on occassion. Carbs effect everyone differently as well. For some people they stall weight loss and trigger cravings, for others they have very little to no effect on cravings and do not have a negative impact on weight loss. You have to find what works for your body when it comes to carb intake.

    Great Low Carb Bread

I also love this bread. It's not as low carb as the one you posted but it's a good alternate if you like a slice of toast in the AM or even want a sandwich on occasion as it's very thin and doesn't fill up my stomach. You can get it right at the grocery store which is nice. The nutrition facts are based on 3 slices as that's a serving size so you have to do a little math. The flavor is good too. https://www.pepperidgefarm.com/product/very-thin-100-whole-wheat-bread/
  24. I stay on track by allowing myself a little of everything on the holiday but staying on track during the rest of the season. It's hard to avoid all the treats around this time of year, especially working in an office, but I remind myself where all those treats and sweets got me and where I want to be (12 pounds from goal today). I also allow myself a little freedom the day of. So for Thanksgiving I had about 3 oz of turkey and a little spoonful of all the sides (yams, broccoli casserole, squash/cheese, stuffing and homemade cranberry sauce.) I split a slice of homemade corn bread with my son and for dessert, a few hours later, I had a small slice of pumpkin pie with cool whip but I just at the pumpkin part and didn't eat the crust. Now it's time to stay on track over the next 4 weeks and avoid all the random Christmas treats being thrown around.
