    366 days later

Congrats. You look great. I'm almost a year out myself and it's such an amazing accomplishment.
  2. The black mucas makes me think blood. I would be concerned, I would probably go get checked out, even if you are out of state, just to be sure. I had a violent stomach bug when I was 7 months post op (farther out than out than you I know) but even then I didn't bring up any dark color mucas or blood and I was vomiting every 1/2-1 hour for a whole day. I can't think of what else, other than small blood clots the black mucas could be

    Eating months after the surgery

I'm a week shy of 1 year out and I can eat about 6-8 ounces of food at a meal depending on what I'm eating. I've found my portion sizes to be pretty equivalent to most of my female friends so I'm satisfied with my consumption. I get about 1100-1300 calories a day, 90-100 grams of protein and 50-100 grams of carbs.

    Non Scale Victories

Sometimes NSV are the best victories! I've had quite a few in the last year but here are some: I can fit comfortably in the chairs in our conference room at work, the arms used to dig into my legs and hips so bad. I can shop in straight size stores only now, no more bouncing between plus and straight I need new wedding rings, my fingers have gone down so much I can't even have my rings resized!! Yay new wedding set!! Calf boots, I can wear them all. I also went down a shoe size so I need all new shoes on top of a new wardrobe. I can see my feet again when I look down instead of just my belly, also my boobs are bigger than my belly again, thank god. I can do 40-60 minutes on the Elliptical and not need a break. The first time I got on I couldn't even do 5 minutes. I'm smaller than my husband for the first time ever. I can cross my legs comfortably and love doing it.
  5. Amazing. You look stunning. Congrats on your journey so far.
  6. New York is amazing. I live about 3 hours from New York City and I try and get down any chance I get because the city just feels so alive to me.
  7. I agree with above, find a bariatric program and see if they have seminars. I did not need a referral from my PCP to enter the program. I attended a seminar and then made an appointment to do an initial assessment with the Bariatric Program NP. I did need a referral from my PCP for my insurance though before they would approve me basically detailing all the past weight loss attempts and any weight related issues I had.
  8. I went into the program with a BMI of 40 but was required to lose 15 pounds, I lost 30, so my BMI going into insurance approval for surgery was 37 and I have no co-morbidities. I was approved with no issues but that may have been since I went into the program at a 40 BMI.
  9. Nothing wrong with being sensitive to pain meds. I would rather be sensitive to them instead of being able to take a ton with no effect. I'm glad you are feeling better and you got some answers for a very scary situation. I worked in a hospital for 5 years, it happens sometimes.
  10. I for sure had some mild depression and regret directly after the surgery but as time went on and I was losing weight and getting ahold of my diet better I started to feel better over all. I think being prepared and knowing it can happen allows you to better take control of the situation going into it.

    Can anyone else relate

Your doing a great job. The first month is usually when you have that big initial weight-loss but 9 pound a month is amazing. I'm a week from my 1 year anniversary and just got off a two month stall, I was averaging 3 pounds a month from 6-9 months, nothing for 10-11 months and I've lost a pound in the last 2 days so I'm back to losing again. This process does slowly become slow and steady and it can be frustrating but I just remind myself when did I ever lose 86 pounds in a year?
  12. If they gave you NARCAN it was reaction to a opiate. Either you had to much for you ability to process it and in essence they "snowed" you which happens a lot with older people or people who haven't take opiates before or you had an actual reaction the drug itself. Find out what drug they gave you and avoid it in the future just to be safe. What it sounds like to me is you woke up in pain, they gave you more meds to counter that and it was to much for your body to handle so they had to administer the Narcan. It likely was not an issue with Anesthesia, they are a different class of drugs.
  13. I'm sorry about your loss' as well, no matter how short it is pregnancy changes our bodies. I was pregnant 4 times in 5 years, two successful and 2 miscarriages, and with each pregnancy my weight afterwards became more of an issue. It was like I was not able to get my hands on it and control it. I'm sorry about your depression and anxiety. I think that having this surgery isn't just about weight alone. If it will improve your mental health and thus your over all health it's completely a good reason to do it, whether or not it's east for you to lose weight. Some people lose super easy but can't keep it off, some just can't lose and some cant find the right way to do it.

    Clothing Sizes

I hate shopping for this reason. When I was plus sized I was a 22 across the board, some brands fit a bit snugger than others but I was still a 22 and a 1X on top, I could go into any of the very limited options we had for plus size clothing and buy a 22 without having to try it on. Now when I go in a store I have to take 10-14 into the dressing room with me. Right now I currently have 2 pairs of 14 dress pants (one fits perfectly, one is huge) and 3 pair of size 12 dress pants (2 fit perfect, one is snug) 2 pairs of size 14 jeans (one fits perfect, one is large), 3 pairs of size 12s (2 are huge and 1 fits okay but sags in the butt) and 1 pair of size 10s that fit perfect unless out of the dryer. I bought them at Sear, Boscovs, Dress Barn, American Eagle and Marshalls and all fit completely differently. So far I've found dress barn to have the best fit to my measurements. I can wear small or medium tops or XL in juniors and Im a size 12 dress.

    Stalled and stuck

I'm sorry you are having a rough time. Stay on top of your Surgeon, bug them if you need to, in case they have to repair the stomach issue. Though it is possible it might just be from swelling too I assume. As for being stalled it could be a number of factors. 1) the normal 3 week stall could be effecting your weight loss 2) it might be the lack of calories your consuming. The lower the calories I intake the worse my weightloss is and 3) it could be dehydration.
  16. My program was 90 days when I went into it. You had to see the NUT 3 times (though I saw her 4 times because I was in the program 5.5 months because I chose to push my surgery date back), go to 6 support meetings, do 3 meetings with the Bariatric NP for psych eval and then see the surgeon twice. They have since changed the program to 6 months and require an exercise component ( 6 sessions of guided exercise at their facility). I still felt lost even though we got a packet for post surgery diets. There were ranges for advancement and I'm someone who likes definite. Also it was vague on what was allowed and what wasn't within a stage. I had to call my nut a number of times.
  17. My husband has done both. We started eating healthy and working out when I was on my pre-op diet and he lost about 60 pounds (I lost 30 preop) and he maintained until this spring when we went on vacation. He got a little loose with his diet, specifically portion size, and lax in the exercise (we both have). He's since gained 20 back of the 60 so he's still down 40 pounds but hes very frustrated.

    Celebrating!

Love the coat. It's such a great feeling not having to go to the plus section isn't it. I have no idea how to shop anymore, the sheer amount of choices available are overwhelming. I still find myself wandering to the back corner of the store then remembering I can't shop plus and going back to the front.

    Christmas gift ideas?

I've asked for mostly clothing or gift cards for clothing. It's not the most exciting gifts but I need to start rebuilding my wardrobe. My plus sized wardrobe was impressive and now I wear the same things over and over again. Plus since I have to wear dress clothing for work I need more professional attire and I'm freezing all the time so I actually need sweaters. I used to rarely wear sweaters as I would get warm easy but that's a thing of the past. I really want a nice fitbit, I have a cheap one (off brand) and I hate it but I'm thinking that I will buy one for my birthday in March. I've also asked for non weight related items too: tickets to see a musical, jewelry, perfume, shoes, some CDs.

    Slow weight loss

7 pounds a month is great. I'm currently losing about 1-2 pounds a month. I think at the height of my loss I was losing 1-2 pounds a week most weeks so 4-8 pounds a month with some large weight loss weeks and some stalled weeks. Just stick with it, slow and steady wins the race.
  21. I started gaining weight significantly when I hit puberty. While I'm not technically PCOS I have a hormone issue that causes many of the same symptoms including infertility issues. I also am hypothyroid and have been on medication since my early 20s. I maintained the same weight and size for about a decade. I would diet, lost 20-40 pounds and then plateau and put it all back on plus some which would slowly come off and I would hover at the same weight. From about 16-26 I was 260s and a size 20. I had a miscarriage in 2010 and that's when my weight started to go up and my normal diet and exercise routine became harder and harder. Having to use fertility meds made me gain weight and my baseline was in the 280s going into my 30s, 290s after having my daughter and finally I broke 300 and knew I needed help. The only time I had a truly successful weight-loss sustained was during my pregnancy with my son. He was a large baby and I could not eat much as I didn't have room for my stomach to expand. I lost 30 pounds and maintained it for almost a year (during and after my pregnancy with him) until I got pregnant again when he was 1 (another miscarriage). That's why the sleeve was suggested to me by my OBGYN, because she saw how the restricted ability of me to eat, resulted in successful weight loss at the time. This is the first time in my life I've been able to successfully lose more than 30-40 pounds and keep it off for more than 6 months.

    Finally!

Sure thing! Come rub away Just stick with it, it will move again, I'm proof of that.

    Finally!

I'm almost a year post-op (12/30) and have been plateaued since 10/2, bouncing up and down the same 3 pounds. It was getting incredibly frustrating since I'm so close to goal as well. I did all my usual stall breaking tips and every time I thought the scale was moving down I would bounce back up to 190. I only weight myself once a week, so it was a pleasant surprise this AM, I haven't been able to break 187 but today I was 186.6! 11 pounds to goal!!!!
  24. I plan to get my belly button pierced because I always wanted to and get another tattoo in recognition of my weight loss but not sure exactly when I want to get yet. I also want to get my boobs done because they are in a sad state but I don't think that's a realistic goal since we are not in a place where we can afford plastic surgery. I will need a tummy tuck some day too but we'll see.

    Why Low Fat?

My NUT advised against no fat products and prefers if we don't use low fat. She said that no fat/low fat diets have been proven ineffective and unhealthy. I've been eating full fat since day 1 and have had no issues with it. The only thing I don't eat full fat is meat, I prefer very lean proteins.
