    Protein intake, struggling

I cannot do shakes, the texture and the flavor are awful and I've tried them all. I now drink Atkins Lift Protein drinks. They are thin, like a flavored Water and the taste isn't bad at all. Lemon is my fave. I discovered these about 4wks out. Im 6wks out, I drink two a day and get the rest from food (soft solid diet) I average 90-100 protein a day!

    Sweet Tooth...

I had a serious sweet tooth before surgery and had ice cream almost nightly! I've found that I don't crave sweets like I once did, I rarely am hungry after dinner to want a sweet and on rare occasions, I do treat myself. For example I went out with hubby last weekend and had a couple bites of his Lemon Bar. It satisfied me both physically and mentally!

    Protein?!

I cannot stomach Protein shakes and it took me about 4 weeks and a ton of different brands to find what I like. Atkins makes a drink called Lift Protein, they are thin like a Water, come in 3 flavors and the taste is not bad at all. They have 20 g of protein, no fat and no sugar. They have been a life saver as my nut wants me to get in 90-100 grams a day at 6wks post op

    Noodles

It depends on your program. My NUT allows small amounts of pasta once we are past the mushy phase and onto soft solids. She actually prefers some carbs because it's good for brain fat

    Super Bowl food/drink

I'm 5 weeks out. I'm currently on what my program calls soft solids, so not mushy but one step up (tender meats, cheese, eggs, soft fruits and veggies, most dairy, rice, potato and toast). The party I'm going to is having Pizza and Wings. I plan to eat wings, pulling the fried skin off and just eating the chicken inside and I'm making Chili, which everyone likes so it won't draw attention to me!

    How did you decide

I've been overweight for as long as I can remember. It never really bothered me but since having children my weight began creeping up the last we years, last summer I reached my highest weight of 301. My knees hurt, my back hurt, my cholesterol and blood sugar were high and I wanted to be there for my kids and interact with them. In April I had a GYN surgery and my OB actually suggested Inwoukd be a good candidate. I did more research that you can imagine and decided on the Sleeve. I don't like the malabsorption and rerouting of the intestines with the RNY, the Sleeve just fit. I was sleeved 12/30. I'm now down 49 pounds since July, 19 since surgery and I feel like I'm getting my life back

EXCITED! untill I watch my 600 lb life

I was concerned about Dougs wife as well. In the beginning I wasn't concerned because she was 3 months out of having twins. I have a friend who is 3 years post VSG and was up 50 pounds after her baby but she did Keto and got the weight back off. It seemed like his wife was getting larger. Also how she was eating wasn't helping. I actually enjoy the show, I'm no where near 600-700 pounds but I love when they are successful. It gives me hope that if they can be, so can I.

    Sonic and straws

My doctor said he doesn't care if I use a straw to just take it easy if I do. I used one once since surgery and it didn't bother me but it's not something I do often!

    Medications post surgery

I had to crush my meds for a week and then my surgeon said to start taking them normally at my 1 week follow up. I've had no issues.

    A little sugar that bad?

My NUT advised against fat free, skim milk and 100% sugar free items, she said the brain needs that fat!

    Hospital length?

I was in for 2 nights. Everyone in our program stays 2 nights!

    Barium Swallow After Surgery

I had one! It wasn't great as that was the first fluid I had post op but it stayed down no problem. The hardest part for me was getting on the XRay table and moving around like they wanted less than 24 hours after surgery.

    Cannot stomach protein shakes

I use a protein water instead of a protein shake because I could not stomach the shakes anymore. I use the Atkins Lift Protein Drinks.
  17. 4 weeks post op today! Feeling so much better. My weight loss has been slow and now I'm stalled but trying to stay positive. Down 16 pounds since surgery!

    Honesty hour: need help

I understand how you are feeling, I had such a hard time with liquids too! I was on full liquids for a week, puréed for 2, soft solids for 3 (im on week 2) and then will be on regular diet after this. Each stage has its own challenges but you will get through it.

    3 days post op

My first week was pretty bad! I was in the hospital for 2 days post my surgery and I was very uncomfortable. I had a lot of gas pain in my chest and my drain site was painful. Once I was home it got better. I'm now a little over a 3 weeks out and doing much better.

    Hi :)

Thank you My! I've tried the ricotta bake during the puréed stage and it was outstanding. My NUT gave us some general ideas such as Fish, Poultry, Meatloaf, Ground Beef, Soft Veggies, cheese, Cereal, Potatoe and toast but didn't elaborate beyond that and I want to make sure I'm sticking to the right things
