Gallbladder removed during surgery
Sullie06 replied to Gotalose's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm having my gallbladder out on 2/16, it's outpatient so I will go home the same day of the surgery. My VSG I was in the hospital 3 days/2 nights. My husband did not stay the night as we have 2 small children but he was with me all day and I hated when he left. I needed him there for support especially when I was getting up to the bathroom once the catheter was out and during my leak test -
I drink carbonated beverages from time to time. Mostly carbonated water but I've had some beer and a little champagne at special events. My surgeon said to wait 6 months and the proceed with caution. He said it will not stretch out our stomach but it can cause discomfort and pretty serious gas. For me, if I sip slowly it does not effect me negatively but it's not something I drink regularly. I mostly stick to water and unsweetened iced tea.

Side Effects of Gastric Sleeve Surgery?
Sullie06 replied to low bmi sleeve's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
The worst part for me is that I've been cold literally all the time. I have to wear layers and layers of clothing and sometimes I avoid going places if I know it's either particularly cold outside or I know the place to be cold. Otherwise I've been lucky and had very few side effects besides the 115 pound weight loss. -
Great job and welcome. I had a VSG 12/30/16 and it's so worth it. Sounds like your doing great so far.

Before And After Gastric Sleeve Surgery Photos
Sullie06 replied to StacyS's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hit my lowest weight so far this week. I have been bouncing since October between 186-190 but I broke the 186 barrier finally. My highest weight was 301in June 2016, picture on the left was 275 while working my pre-op program in October 2016, Surgery weight was 271 on 12/30/16 and the right is yesterday 1/15/18 at 185 lbs. -
I don't think I can wear these anymore....
Sullie06 replied to KDBaker's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Congrats you are doing great! Its such a wonderful feeling isn't it? I've gone from a size 22 to a size 10/12 and a size S/M top. It's insane! It is a hit to the wallet though, especially if you have to wear dress clothing for work. -
My nut wanted me up to 1200 calories as soon as possible. I think I began to consistently hit 1200 around 6 months. I had a dip in my calories when I went to solid foods as I was able to eat less per serving and had to convert to a 6 meals a day diet. I now average about 1100-1300 calories a day, 90-100 grams of protein and keep my carbs below 100 grams. I've lost 116 pounds and am 10 pounds from goal so I think this diet has done well by me. As for beans and lentils. I was allowed to introduce them at the pureed stage. One of my go to meals at pureed was refried beans with salsa and melted cheese. Also I was allowed to introduce nuts at 3 months.

Not losing weight because I deprived myself?
Sullie06 replied to shsd87's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Stalls are a natural part of this progress so I don't believe you are in a place where you have ended your weight loss, you just have to get your snacking in check and move forward. I agree with previous posters in regards to tracking your food. Everything that goes in my mouth goes into my Baritastic App, everything. Also find snacks that are protein based and when you feel like having a snack eat those. I do have nuts, cheese and beef jerky in my house so when I feel like having a snack I go that route. I do try and make better choices for my kids but some things are not worth the fight So I will give them the Goldfish Crackers and I'll have a string cheese. -
Driving after a gastric sleeve
Sullie06 replied to Lumarsolxx's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told 2 weeks by my team. The first concern is the narcotics of course but they also said for healing if I could avoid driving for a couple weeks to do that as well. -
Bariatric surgery at age 19
Sullie06 replied to amber98's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was 33 when I had my surgery but still had some issues with friends, my best friend in particular. After having surgery and starting to lose weight she pulled back from me. At this point I'm a year out of surgery and I haven't seen her since October and only spoken to her a handful of times since then. I don't know if it's a jealousy issue as she is still battling her weight or something else going on but I've realized I have to do what's best for me and my health and if others cant get on board then I don't have a place for them in my circle. -
My team said 6 months. I've had wine a few times and a couple of cocktails but I just don't really care to drink much. I was never a big drinker and now it just seems like a waste of calories so I will only have a drink at special occasions. I have found my tolerance to be the same but everyone is different so use caution.

Gall bladder issues after sleeve
Sullie06 replied to Staceymorrow's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My doctor did not check my gallbladder prior to surgery as I had no issues with it at the time but he did warn me that post surgery is was a very large possibility that it would need to come out. My pain in intermittent for sure but I'm ready to just get it out and move on. I'm tired of having surgery at this point. -
You are very likely losing inches at this time as your body reorganizes a bit. When I stalled I found that if I increased my protein, calories and water it would break, it was my bodies way of telling me it was time for more nutrition. Also if you are hitting the gym as much as you are you could be building muscle back and muscle weighs more than fat. Keep at it!

I was allowed popcorn after 6 months. I have it on occasion and have no issues with it. I've never been a big popcorn person so I don't eat it very often but I avoid popcorn with lots of butter or toppings. A little air popped with sea salt is a nice snack on occasion though.

Joining Weight Watchers after Gastric Sleeve surgery.
Sullie06 replied to calicakes's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I use Baritastic for my tracker and I find that it's pretty tailored to people who have had bariatric surgery. Also check with your program because they might offer support groups. Mine does 3 a month and I still try to attend at least once monthly. It really keeps me on track and I love chatting with people who are experiencing the same thing. -
Gall bladder issues after sleeve
Sullie06 replied to Staceymorrow's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My gallbladder started acting up at around 6-7 months post op. I had a scan and they found no gall stones but the pain persisted. They followed up by ordering me a Hida Scan and that determined my gallbladder was not functioning properly. I'm currently 13 months post op and scheduled to have my gallbladder out 2/16 -
How long do I have to wait for Caffeine???
Sullie06 replied to Frannt's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My NUT said no caffeine ever post surgery but when speaking to my doctor he said that was a little to restrictive and if I was getting my fluids in I could have caffeine in moderation after 6 months. He said the issue they worry about is dehydration but further out from surgery I should be okay and he doesn't agree with the NUTS standpoint on caffeine. I don't drink coffee but I love iced tea and drink about 32 oz of tea a day and 32-40 ounces of water as well. I now drink fresh brewed black tea with caffeine daily and have no issues and it helps give me a little boost I need in the morning. -
Coughing up fresh blood 3 days post surgery
Sullie06 replied to Gagsy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would just advocate for yourself. Have they done an endoscopy to see where the blood is for sure coming from? If you don't feel like "Oh well it's okay" is the answer demand further testing. I don't believe this is a normal side effect. -
You look amazing and your hubby is a cutie! So happy for you.
-
I think it's normal to be concerned especially reading a story like that one but you don't know if there were other medical issues that came up that she might not have even known existed or were new. I think your best bet is to consult with all of your doctors, including your surgeon, hematologist and PCP, and discuss your concerns and risk. For me, diet and exercise just didn't work long term and constant yo-yo dieting and being obese is a huge health risk itself. I have family that lost over 100 pounds on their own and then gained it almost all back as soon as they stopped excessive exercise. I also have friend who can't maintain her weight loss if he doesn't run 7 miles or more a day so she bounces from a size 26 to a 14 and back. Some people need surgical intervention to maintain. Best of luck to you.

Congrats on the success from your surgery and on getting remarried to your husband. I just had my 1 year anniversary and it's amazing to look back and see how far we've come in a year.

Holding Myself Accountable
Sullie06 replied to Fluffygirl45's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
We all have those moments of weakness but you have done the best thing by looking back and being accountable for your actions. The best thing we can do when we make a mistake is realize we did it and move forward with the knowledge of what triggered the behavior. -
I include my pre-op loss as well because I lost 30 pounds in 6 months and I worked my butt off to do that. Plus that's my total weight-loss from the day I entered the program to now. HW: 301 (July 2016) SW: 271 (12/30/16) CW: 188 (1/5/18- I'm currently bouncing again between 189-186) GW: 175 then reassess. I'm 5'10"- Size 10/12 in pants. M/L in sweats because I wear them bigger and S/M in tops depending on brand and cut.

Love this! Congrats on your surgery and on this journey going forward. I finally feel like I'm living my life for the first time in a long time.
