  1. Stalls suck to put it bluntly but they are a part of the process and completely normal. I've stalled pretty much every month during this process for 1-2 weeks and I've still managed to lose 63 pounds in 5 months. The weight will come off, just focus on making good habits now and sticking to them.

    Carbs

I didn't have a Protein only phase either so I can't really offer anything more than encouragement. I'm 5.5 months out now and keep my carbs between 50 and 100 grams a day and it works for me, I hope once the phase passes are you are able to have carbs again in moderation your craving will subside. I've found that when I'm denied something, that is when I crave it most.

    Before and After Pics

    October 16- 275 lbs. My highest weight was 301 in July 2016. June 10, 2017- 211 lbs
  4. I'm glad you are feeling better. It really does get better over time. I didn't have a super hard time with the surgery or even the pain associated once I left the hospital and the drain came out. The pain was off and on for 2 weeks and then dull pain upon movement for about 2 more weeks. I had a lot of issues with feeling I would never be normal again. That I can never again eat the food I love or enjoy a dinner out with my husband or friends. I'm now 5.5 months out and doing great. I feel completely normal and noticed that when I go out now I'm not the only one who clears her plate. Most of my friends are naturally thin and they always had left overs and I was over there licking the plate (figuratively). Also I've found that I enjoy my new relationship with food but don't deny myself either. I just make better choices.

    NSV happy!!!

Way to go, it feels great doesn't it? I went from a 2X top and 22W bottoms to a 14 regular and Large tops in about 5.5 months. My Surgeon is a lot like your NUT it sounds. I think I'm doing great, slow but steady loser, then I go to see him and he says "why you not losing more weight" its frustrating but I just keep at it. I'm down 92 pounds and 18 pounds from goal 1.
  6. Our hospital requires the nurses and nursing assistants to round on patient hourly from 7am to 11pm and then every 2 hours during the night. They alternate so one hour the NA comes in and the next hour the RN comes in. I was used to it from having the same routine when I was in for the birth of my kids, 4 days with my daughter of this. Also while I was in I had a roommate the first night and she was having some issues. She had had thyroid surgery and wasn't able to speak and was having breathing issues so they were in all night checking on her, doing tests, having the on-call physician and Respiratory therapist check her, having the speech therapist in and then she had to get breathing treatments every 2 hours. It was awful.
  7. Just got word that mine has to come out. No stones were present on ultrasound so my surgeon sent me for a HIDA scan and my ejection fraction was 85% which is out of the normal range. My surgeon also stated that ultrasound is only about 85% accurate so there could be stones no present on ultrasound.

    "Fat Clothes"

I really need to do this. I'm 5 months post op and 90 pounds down. I've gone from a tight 22 to a comfortable 14misses (14 plus are way to big) though I did notice today they are getting loose. My closet is still filled with 22 pants and 2X shirts I couldn't' possibly wear. I've been buying a handful of items in my new sizes to rotate.

    Dumb move.

Don't beat yourself up and be so hard on yourself. You just have to move forward. Life gets crazy sometimes and there have been times I have to just eat what's available. I always try and plan ahead like everyone else said but with two toddlers and a full time job I've ran out of the house without my bag a few times. One day I went to a training where they were providing lunch that was supposed to be subs, I planned to eat just the meat, but they ordered pizza instead. I had to take what I had and adapt ( I took a small thin slice, dabbed the grease, took a couple bites and then finished the toppings. I try and keep healthy snack options in my desk and even my car in case I need them.

    Carbs

I've personally had no issues with introducing carbs into my diet. I didn't gain any weight and didn't have any abnormal stalls. I keep my Carbs below 100g a day. I'm 5 months out and down 50 pounds since surgery, 90 since I started my program.

How do I know when I'm full

I get hiccups and get a dull pain in my chest, almost like indigestion if I eat to fullness. I try and make sure I measure my food to avoid that but life happens.
  12. I try and keep my daily carbs between 50-100 grams a day and that works for me. I don't track super seriously, I just make sure I'm measuring my food and entering everything that goes in to my mouth into my tracker.
  13. You look outstanding. I'm currently 5 months out and down almost 90 pounds total and I still see myself as that 300 pound girl too. I still hate the way I look in my underwear especially since I have that stupid B shaped belly.

    a little help & advice :/

Honestly, Coffee got me to go. I'm not a regular coffee drinker so having a cup got me moving again.
  15. I was cleared for regular foods at 9 wks, and it started getting easier at around 12 wks. I'm now 5 months post op and have not found a food I have issues with.

    Breakfast ideas.

If it's a weekday I eat a greek yogurt for breakfast because I eat at work and that's the easiest option. Sometimes I add some granola for some starch as my NUT is big on getting starches in. On the weekend I usually go with Scrambled Eggs and Turkey Bacon, Cream of Wheat, Oatmeal, Special K Protein Cereal with Fairlife Milk, Sausage and Cheese on half an English muffin, Banana and PB Toast. I try and switch it up since it's Greek Yogurt M-F. Also I'm not afraid of carbs and starches but I do keep it in modification. Oh and once a month I eat a pancake with real maple syrup because it's my favorite food of all time. One pancake and I'm done now.
  17. I understand where you are coming from but I've found over time I've missed volume less and less. I enjoy going out to eat now and not being the only one of my girlfriends to clear their plate. I enjoy being able to order a half order of something and be sated. I've realized that eating more normally is starting to feel normal.
  18. Mine was very similar. Clear liquids in the hospital and then 1 week full liquids once home. 2 weeks pureed and then 4 weeks of soft solids. I started regular solids at 8 weeks.
  19. My tubes are tied so I'm not on any birth control currently but my periods have been hell over the last 5 months. I have always had periods but after a D&C last April they had regulated pretty well. Then the VSG happened and woah they are weeks long and heavy. My OBGYN suggested I get the mirena to help regulate so I hope it works. I'm supposed to get it with my next cycle. The only other option is an Ablation.

    Obsessed with weight loss

I weigh myself once an week and it's much better for me as I was getting to an obsessive point a few months back. Like if I saw a scale I would have to step on it and analyze the results. Also expect stalls and during those times don't drive yourself crazy. During stalls are when I have my biggest loss of inches. Also for me it helped to really get in tune with my body and what I need. Find a good balance of food and exercise and listen to what your body needs. For example during my time of the month, I always stall for up to two weeks. At first I was frustrated but now that I saw the pattern I don't measure myself during that time. It saves me heartbreak. I usually will lose 4-5 pounds the week after and then 1-2 the rest of the time.

    Alcoholic Drinks

My surgeon told me that I can have wine after 6 months and to always drink in moderation. I had have a glass of red wine with dinner on occasion prior to surgery, nothing sense, so waiting hasn't been hard but I do plan on incorporating an occasional glass of red wine and some hard cider in the fall back into my diet. The best advice I've heard is to try it, see how your body and your stomach tolerate alcohol and always use moderation. It may be possible that you will go to have that drink and no longer have the interest or the desire to drink anymore.

    Yogurts?

I am a fan of the triple zero and ate a lot of it in my early days. Right now I'm kind of off of yogurt because I ate so much in the first couple months. Also I second Fairlife Milk. I drink a glass every morning and I will have the low-fat chocolate when I want a treat because it's protein packed.
  23. I can eat pretty easily as well. I'm 5 months out now but I never had an issue once I moved to solids. I can eat pretty much anything and haven't thrown up or had any dumping. I track and measure all my food. I've 58 pounds down from surgery and 23 from goal.
  24. Glad to see you are feeling well! I had a pretty good immediate post op experience as well, the worst part was I had to wait almost 24 hours to begin drinking anything so my mouth was ridiculously dry even with mouth swabs.
  25. I totally would have done it in my 20s but back then I never thought I was actually big enough for weight loss surgery. I was one of those people who was happy with the way I was even though I knew my weight was getting dangerously high. I was 33 when I finally had my surgery and I don't regret a thing, down 88 pounds total since last June, 58 since surgery.
