    Breads Post Surgery

I'm only 6 months out but I was allowed bread during my soft solids phase but only toasted. I will have a slice of toast with PB on occasion. It doesn't bother my stomach as long as it's toasted. As for tortillas, Mission makes a Carb Balance one that I really like. Whole grain and low carbs I use it to make a lot of different things. Quesadillas, Sandwiches, Pizza...
  2. I was shocked by the drain, I was never told I would have one and all my pain came from the drain while in the hospital. I was shocked that I could not start any liquid until after my leak test which was almost 24 hours later, my mouth has never been so dry. I didn't expect to regret it so much at first. The first month was hard and I constantly questioned and second guessed myself. I had a ton of muscle pain from the large incision that popped up weeks after surgery. It was hard to sleep for over a month. But most importantly I never expected, at 6 months out, to feel so normal or to have lost so much weight. I'm 97 pounds down and 67 from surgery and it's the best feeling ever.

    Coffee?

I don't drink coffee, I never did before surgery either, but I do drink black tea. The caffeine doesn't bother me so the team said it was fine once I was past 6 weeks.

    Bread

I'm also in New York. I'm upstate in the Binghamton area and I'm so happy I chose this journey. Life is so much better thus far. I'm 6 1/2 months out almost and I am down 97 pounds total. Life Changer.
  5. I think rescheduling is a good option. I was actually in the hospital for 2 days and just getting home was a fete. It was a good week before I felt like I was really getting back to myself.

    Eating certain things?

I'm a little over 6 months out and can no longer eat eggs. They do not sit well with me and I usually feel sick right after eating them. Eggs are the only thing I can no longer tolerate.

    Bread

I'm allowed breads as long as they are whole grain on my diet, however they fill me up so quickly I try and avoid bread as much as possible. Though I do on occasion have a slice of bread with PB and I've had half a bagel once. I now it's not the exact same but my solution for a toasted cheese is a cheese quesadilla. I use the Mission Carb balance wraps with melted Mexican shredded cheese and a little salsa, so good but I'm sure you can us any type of cheese!
  8. My NUT said she wanted me at 1000 calories by 6 months, that extended time under 1000 calories is not good long term. She said that I should work up to 1200-1400 calories by 1 year out.

    Im not loosing

You haven't lost anything at all?
  10. I do eat on the run from time to time but I try and do it as healthy as possible. For me I usually chose Wendy's and get a single burger without the bun. Their burgers seem to taste better than McDs. I also will get a salad from Subway with double the meat or a grilled chicken sandwich with no bun from time to time.

    Relationship changes

My husband has been outstanding through the whole process. The surgical part of it was no issue for him as he's a surgical tech so he's seen the surgery done before. I actually calmed me down regarding the surgical process. As for diets and meals, he's been eating healthier and has lost 60 pounds on his own. He's really good at keeping me in line and being a shoulder when I need one. We have two small children so we're trying to teach them healthy eating habits now so they don't have the weight issues we did.

How many Carbs a day ?

Per my nutritionist I keep my carbs between 50-100 grams a day. I drink a lot of milk so that does bump up my carb intake.
  13. I can keep up with and interact with my children much better. Now I can be an active participant in their lives and am not afraid to do things with them I never would have before (ie: get in the bounce house, climb up the playground and go down the slide, chase them around the bases at the ballpark) which they like. My knees never hurt anymore, I used to not be able to make it up the stairs. Being treated like a normal person in social situations and not just being the fat girl in the room. Before it was like I was the stereotypical sidekick in a movie. Loud, outgoing but never a leading lady if that makes sense. Not feeling guilt at restaurants and events over being the only girl there to go back for seconds, I love eating a normal amount of food. Having much more clothing options and also being able to find cheaper clothing than before, especially for work. Specialty plus sized retailers such as Torrid and Lane Bryant are so expensive. Not having to worry about fitting in places like chairs, playground equipment, amusement rides, etc.

    Not losing consistently

I've averaged about 10 pounds a month in the 6 months since I've had my surgery (down 64 since surgery, 94 total). My loss is much slower than I expected it to be and even got discouraged early on because my surgeon asked me why I wasn't losing more weight at my first 2 post op appointments. I've noticed that I tend to lose on a pattern and I stall every month for 1-2 weeks around my period. It's frustrating but it's my bodies way to dealing with this process so I've come to accept it. I started this process a year ago July 19th and I'm down just under 100 pounds so the frustration and stress has been worth it in the long run. I would like to lose another 37 pounds to reach my ultimate goal.

    Pant sizes?

Started at a tight 22W, I'm a week shy of 6 months out and I'm in a comfortable 12-14 depending on brand and large tops. I would like to get down to a 10 but my weight loss has been super slow the last 2 months so it might be a while.

Hate tracking food - now stalled

I use the Baritastic App to track and I like it because you can scan the barcode to put a new item in. Once it's in your list you can favorite it if it's something you eat often. As for stalls they suck and even as much as all of us know it's part of the process when your in one it's frustrating. I've been in a slow losing pattern for 2 months. I lose a couple pounds in a week (2-4), then stall for 2-3 weeks, lost a couple more pounds and then stall again. I'm 16 pounds from my first goal and I feel like I will never get there right now. I just have to take a breath and stay with it.

    Alcohol?

I had half a glass of red wine over a couple hours Saturday evening and I found my tolerance to be about the same as it was prior to surgery. I don't drink often but a half glass of wine is still a comfortable drink for me.
  18. The only thing that bothers my stomach is scrambled eggs, they sit really heavy so I don't eat them anymore. Otherwise there has been nothing I haven't been able to tolerate and I have tried as much stuff as possible. Spicy doesn't bother me at all and the few times I've had a couple bites of sweets I was fine with that as well. I've also had bread, rice and carbonation with no issues.

    Alcohol?

My doc said to wait 6 months and to be careful in regards to addiction and nutrition. Wine is my go to.
  20. I had my VSG in December and will be getting my GallBladder out in the fall. I don't have any stones but after experiencing pain I had a HIDA scan and my gallbladder is not functioning properly. My doctor did say it's not an urgent thing so I'm planning to have it removed in September as that's a better time at work.

    Drinking With a Straw?

I was about a month out when I started using a straw again and have had no issues. I use a straw daily now, it allows me to get more fluids in.

    Drinks after sleeve

I drink a lot of Iced Tea, especially this time of year and Fairlife Milk as well. I drank a lot of Crystal light in the weeks after surgery but I cannot stomach artificial sweetners to well so I stick with Tea, Water and Milk. As for Carbonation my doctor said once I was cleared for a regular diet I could see if I could tolerate carbonation. I don't drink soda but I have had seltzer a couple times and it was fine for me. I let it flatten out a bit.

    NSV shout outs

Shopping for an outfit for family portraits on Sunday and I was able to wear a size 12

    Salad anyone?

I was cleared for salad at about 10 weeks. I do like a salad from time to time but since it has lower protein value I will make sure my other meals that day are protein packed. Also I like to put meats in my salads. Chopped up chicken, ham, pepperoni, turkey bacon, that type of thing.

    rice and pasta

My NUT had pasta on my plan since the soft food phase and I was allowed to reintroduce rice at 3 months. She has us keep our carbs below 100 grams so there isn't anything really off the table, but that doesn't mean you have to eat it. I've had rice maybe 2 times and had no issues with digestion or anything. I'm not really a fan of rice but my mom makes the most amazing Red Beans and Rice so I couldn't pass that up on the rare occasion she makes it. Pasta I think maybe I have had a handful of times since surgery, but not as an entrée. So maybe I will have a couple bites of pasta salad after I eat my protein/veggies. Especially this time of year.
