    Food help please!

Refried beans with a little salsa was a go to for me. Also pureed shredded chicken with some chicken broth to soften it up and cream of wheat or baby oatmeal with milk but you could also do it with water since your lactose free (or lactaid/nut milk).

What Post-Sleeve Rules Do You Break?

I take pre-natal vitamins. Per my doctor they are one of the best combinations a woman can take and she suggests prenatals for all her female patients pregnant or not. Since I took them with no issue when I was pregnant I just kept taking the same ones.

What Post-Sleeve Rules Do You Break?

My NUT said the same thing about the carbs and protein. She told me at my last visit with her that I should start shifting my diet from a protein heavy diet to a vegetable heavy diet for long term maintenance.
  4. Prior to my VSG I swore I would never wear skinny jeans. The couple times I tried them on in the past was not a joyful experience. If I was lucky enough to get them above my calves they did nothing for my figure. I would wiggle around trying to get them on and then feel like an udder shame when I looked in the mirror. I was solidly a boot cut jean type of girl. Well..... I not only found a pair that fit but I love the way they look on my figure. Also, I'm wearing white! White is not a forgiving color, I've always been a black/dark solids girl but not anymore!
  5. I was just wondering if any of you ladies find you need more calories during your cycle. My cycles are really heavy and a week long. By the middle of my cycle I feel weak and tired if I don't increase my consumption and my NUT said that I might need more nutrition due to the increased blood loss during my cycle. It's insane though, I average about 1100-1300 calories a day normally but this week I've been averaging 1500-1600. I've been adding iron rich foods at the insistence of my NUT. I just didn't know if this was normal?

The Good The Bad & The Nasty

I did a double take on it when I first looked at it. They should really change the font on that G

    Ladies

Thank for responding! While I have the normal cravings and such, which I avoid and chose healthy food, during the middle of my period which is usually the heaviest, I actually feel crappy if I don't up my calories (headache, tired, weak feeling) but this doesn't happen the rest of the month. My periods are really heavy though so I wonder if it's different than someone who has a normal or shorter cycle.

    Fullness.....

I started to really feel restriction when I started my soft solids and more so when I started regular foods. It will kick in!

    Calories per day

I'm currently hitting between 1100 and 1300 most days at 9.5 months out. I'm still losing and about 13 pounds from my goal. My nut wanted me above 1200 calories per day by 6 months post op so I try and hit that every day.

    Beans and cheese

Refried beans with a little cheese and salsa were one of my go to meals during my pureed stage along with egg salad (pureed with a little mayo and dill relish) and the famous Ricotta Bake.
  11. It was okay on my plan but every surgeon has a different plan. My week one diet was Full Liquids, I was only on clears in the hospital.
  12. Good luck to all of you. The beginning was the worst part. I would say it took a good month before I started to feel myself again physically and about 3 months before I really started to feel myself again mentally. Tips: Take small sips, adjust the temperature of liquids if you are having pain with fluids. I found that I could tolerate colder beverages better but some people tolerate warmed or room temp beverages. Take your time and take slow sips. And most importantly move! The gas can take a while to get rid of and moving really helps.

The Good The Bad & The Nasty

    I think it's 9 grams. The G looks like a 6 but I think it's 16 G protein, 9 G carbs and 8G of fat.
  14. I drink unsweetened black tea daily, usually about 32 ounces at least. I started drinking caffeinated tea again at about 6 months post op.
  15. If you are close enough with the bride/groom you can approach them to see if maybe you can have a special plate made, similar to if you have severe food allergies. Maybe they can do a soup or something similar.

    Sleeve too small

My surgeon told me that you cannot stretch the sleeve, that to stop the weight loss when I hit my goal to up my calories and carbs until I hit a place where I stop loosing but don't gain.
  17. I wore leggings and a tunic to and from the hospital. I also wore leggings for the first 2 weeks I was home before returning to work. As for the hospital I brought one of my own night gowns and wore that after I was taken off my IV on day 2. I was just more comfortable in my own clothing. I did the same thing after I had my kids as well, wore my own night gown.

The Good The Bad & The Nasty

Atkins products are my favorite by far. Now only are they low carb but they taste great. I drink their shakes daily and have their bars on hand for if I'm on the go. Also I like their snacks.

    Dumping sleevers

I've never experienced dumping with the sleeve personally and I've eaten things I probably shouldn't have at this point, however I'm over 9 months out and 13 pounds from goal, so I might not be much help. I'm wondering if the issue is that your to early out of surgery for your stomach to handle some things. I know your plan might call for it but you might not be able to "stomach" it. I've noticed that eggs I have to stay away from now because my body just can't handle it anymore. I don't have a heart issue but more of a digestion issue. Also it seems to be items with sugar/carbs or sugar supplements that are giving you an issue so you might just have to avoid simple carbs and sugars for awhile and try to slowly add them back in when you are closer to goal. Your stomach is still healing at 8 weeks post op so it might just be to early to process them right.

    NOT LOOSING WEIGHT

My weightloss was very slow the first month. There are a couple reasons why you might not be loosing weight. 1 they likely pumped you full of fluids in the hospital so you might still be retaining the fluid. 2, your body is trying to recover from major surgery so it's likely holding onto nutrients. 3, your not as active directly after surgery and that's normal. It will happen.

    Bacón!

I was not allowed bacon until I was on regular foods which was right around 10 weeks. I was not allowed pork bacon until after 6 months. I now eat it on occasion with no issues. I like to make breadless BLT's from time to time.
  23. I get rid of clothing as soon as I can't wear it anymore. I have no plans to go back up in sizes so I can't waste space in my closet saving clothing I will never wear again.

    NSV-Skinny Jeans

Thank you so much! It's really true. I look back at my old pictures and I'm like "how did I ever let myself get to that place?" How did I not see I was that big. It's funny how out mind plays tricks on us. For years it didn't allow me to see how big I was and now that I've lost 100+ pounds I look in the mirror and still see my old self. Everyday is a lesson!

    NSV-Skinny Jeans

OMG thank you for saying that. I'm having huge self esteem issues with my stomach because I have loose skin on my upper belly and it creates a muffin top depending on what I wear. I never view myself as having a flat tummy. That made my day!
