  2. Here's a follow-up to my comment. They do want the money up front, but it's 250, not 850. Phew! Sent from my SM-N920P using the BariatricPal App

    Weight Loss = Friend Loss

This sounds alot like when I quit drinking years ago. My "friends" said I wasn't fun anymore and stopped inviting me anywhere. Maybe they thought I was judging them, but I wasn't. I found new friends, many in OA, and don't miss those old drinking buddies at all. Sent from my SM-N920P using the BariatricPal App
  6. I suppose we can request a new advocate, but I don't want to be considered a problem patient, because office staff tends to get even less willing to help. Sent from my SM-N920P using the BariatricPal App

    Dr. Thomas Roshek

Did you have your EGD at Medical Center Hospital? Did they want the entire amount owed after insurance up front? Sent from my SM-N920P using the BariatricPal App

    Dr. Thomas Roshek

Dr. Roshek is doing my band to sleeve revision, probably in Oct. I researched him and the Nicholson Clinic and they have a good reputation, plus Dr. Roshek removed my daughter's gall bladder 2 years ago and was awesome and so nice. I've had my 1st consultation with him and am happy with my choice. Sent from my SM-N920P using the BariatricPal App

    Gastric Sleeve / Day Surgery

I'm having a band to sleeve revision and Dr Roshek at Nicholson Clinic says it will be day surgery. I'm a little worried about the car ride home. Sent from my SM-N920P using the BariatricPal App
  10. How did your EGD go? Any word on your results and/or surgery date? I am so excited for you..and very curious how far out they are scheduling surgeries! Did you have it at Medical Center hospital? If yes, do they want all the $ up front? I just found out my portion of this test is more than $800. Sent from my SM-N920P using the BariatricPal App
  11. How did you finance for $113 a month? Prosper? Sent from my SM-N920P using the BariatricPal App
  12. I have Dr Rorshek at the Nicholson clinic and I'm worried about paying for my EGD at Medical City Hospital. I think my OoP is over $800. Do you know if they want it all up front? It's a week away and I had no idea it would be so much. I also think that hospital is out of network for BCBS. The Nicholson clinic did say something about how if they use an OoN facility, they would take what the insurance pays for in-network. I'm obviously confused so any help is appreciated. So very irritating!

I have a dumb question. Once I hit my OoP for the year, do I still pay copays? Sent from my SM-N920P using the BariatricPal App

    So very irritating!

I'm supposed to go to True Results to get my lapband unfilled. I wonder what that will cost. I looked up the cost of the EGD that is scheduled in a week and it's $800+ after insurance! If they want it all up front, I'm screwed. Sent from my SM-N920P using the BariatricPal App

    Financing!

Prosper won't consider me because my credit score is about 20 pts too low. I'm not sure what to do besides a 401k hardship loan, but they want bills and surgeon requires $854 up front. I've asked my patient advocate for suggestions, but he hasn't been very helpful with anything else. Sent from my SM-N920P using the BariatricPal App

    Need advice... Surgery 9/19

I have the same history, including the band, which now has to be removed because of pain, so I'm getting a sleeve because I want that extra tool. But honestly, Overeaters Anonymous and getting a therapist who specializes in eating disorders has finally changed my thinking about food, which is half the battle. 17. My caseworker has been slow and snarky. I'm starting to realize that "I'll get right back to you" means 4 days, which doesn't cut it in any other business. I've become very persistent and vocal. Sent from my SM-N920P using the BariatricPal App
  18. I met with my surgeon yesterday to discuss band removal/revision. He recommended a sleeve because there are fewer complications and it is a simpler surgery. He also said that if it is done correctly, the weight loss is close to the bypass. Because I have worked hard the last 3 years to lose 80 lbs and get down to 230, he said I can reasonably expect to get to 175, more if I exercise and work hard. Next I have to go for an EGD test to assess the condition of my stomach and esophagus. I'll be swallowing a tiny camera! Luckily, there will be some sedation. They don't submit paperwork to insurance until after the test. My band can be unfilled at that point. I really like this surgeon. He removed my daughter's gall bladder 2 years ago and I researched him thoroughly. I'm starting to get excited, even though he expects surgery to be 6 weeks away. This week I need to ask my GP and therapist for letters saying I'm a good candidate for surgery and can be expected to follow my post-op diet and be successful. I'll keep you all posted! 19. I saw my surgeon for 1st consult yesterday. His opinion is that there are too many possible complication converting a band to bypass, so he recommends the sleeve. He said the place you are banded is the exact place they cut for bypass and if the area is already eroded or irritated, it can cause problems. He did say there can be issues with the sleeve for the same reason, but the cut is slightly different and not right on the band placement site. Sent from my SM-N920P using the BariatricPal App
  20. Please wait to talk to your surgeon. I had my first meeting yesterday and am scheduled to have a EGD test and was told the band needs to be full until after the test. The band will be emptied after the test and before surgery. Sent from my SM-N920P using the BariatricPal App
  21. I've had a lapband since 08 and having pain at port site, occasional dry heaves, belching. I'm seeing a surgeon Aug. 5 about a revision to GBP and am wondering about the requirements for revision to be approved by Anthem BCBS. I know all insurances are different, but I don't have to get another psch eval, nutrition class, etc., do I? Sent from my SM-N920P using the BariatricPal App
  22. The good news is that it does get easier to give up favorite foods, but in my case, it forced me to find other things that made me happy. I started with hot bubble baths. Then it was loom knitting. Then Water walking and swimming. I recently discovered that I enjoy classical music. And now I'm playing Pokemon Go. Who knew there was so much fun in the world? Best Decision I Ever Made.

Great job and thanks for posting. I'm having complications with my band and am debating sleeve or bypass, but am leaning towards bypass. Were they able to remove your band and do the bypass in 1 surgery? Sent from my SM-N920P using the BariatricPal App

I hate it when people say...

My favorite reply to personal questions is, "why do you ask?" I put a puzzled look on my face and listen intently. After they stammer for a bit, I just excuse myself and walk away. Sometimes I say, "ohhhh, I see" before walking away. I definitely dont answer their question. Sent from my SM-N920P using the BariatricPal App
