lol between my husband my eldest son and I we have 4 pistols and 6 shot guns then my three kids each have a BB gun and one has an air rifle. We are a pro gun household and a family of hunters we're ready ha ha.I had no idea there were so many gun toters on this site! We both carry everywhere it is legal to do so. If a bad guy forced his way in the door, it would be a very short confrontation. If a bad guy showed up on the property, he would be very surprised. Like I wrote. We carry everywhere.

we have our done to run the whole house just bc we have three young kids ages 7,11,14 so it makes it rough when no electric. But we don't turn on the internet ha ha we make them play board games with us. Ha ha. My i laws live next door and we bought them one as well. I think most people on our road have one but we live in the country and we loose it so often. And it's weird bc just in the last few months there has been four robberies in our road but most people know we are armed and my husband won't hesitate to shoot. And we lock everything up and surveillance. It seems it doesn't matter where u live it happens now. We have lived here for 22 years and have never locked car doors always left keys in our cars. ETC. Not no more!!!
Our setup is similar. I have to manually start the generator (yank the cord), and then throw one switch to switch over the circuits we dedicated to keeping on. That's the heat, the fridge, and the freezer. We have bunches of candles and oil lamps for lights, and the aforementioned 19th century amenities for long term low energy consumption.
omg I laughed so hard at ur post that my husband asked what I was laughing at so I read it to him and he laughed. It takes a lot to make him laugh. Lol. And ur lucky we loose electric a lot and already for over two weeks. We have our generator wired into our home to run our entire house at the flip of a switch. We did this after going over two weeks without electric one winter.@@Treadmillwalker we're in the country too, but a main trunk goes right in front of our house. We've never been out more than 48 hours, and that was in Hurricane Isabel back in '03.
We have a 19th century approach to this stuff. For short stints, the generator will keep the house warm and the food cold. We have an outhouse, a hand pumped well, and an outbuilding (now squirrel free) where we could live for an extended period of time without electricity. A whole house generator would cost us 10 times what we spent for our current setup, and all those lights on would only draw the neighbors.

With my new arrangement, I can leave it in the tool shed. That saves me time and work to roll it into place, and keeps it secure from generator thieves. The old arrangement had it next to the house, which is right up by the road. Nothing says "here I am!" Like a running generator in a power outage.
When our girls were still here at home, they would complain about the outhouse. I told them they were welcome to use the inside toilet, but I was not hauling buckets of Water up two flights of stairs so they could pee in luxury. That was their job.

I tell myself mind over matter since my two week liquid pre op diet I have baked cakes home cooked every meal anywhere from meatloaf mashed potatoes gravy and corn to home made beef veggie Soup home made pot pie. U name it. I sit at the table with my family like tonight I ate cottage cheese while they ate they're dinner. I tell myself I was the one who decided this surgery not them and I can't punish them for it. This weekend I baked Cookies with my kids for xmas Cookies just bc I'm not eating them doesn't mean it's not an important time of the year for my family. They look forward to this. Do I really want them well heck yea. But I know I want to be healthy even more. Just write a list of all the things u want to do when u loose weight this is what I do and when I crave or want the bad things I look at that list which I hang on my fridge for reminders. I have not cheated once during pre op diet or since surgery on 11/22 and I'm down 40 lbs since pre op diet. Best of luck to u and keep ur chin up it gets easier.

headaches is another side effect of synthroid.I've had at least 4-5 Thyroxine adjustments since my surgery in March 2016.
Been suffering from insomnia ever since.
Still have regular, 6 weekly blood tests.
3 months ago, my Endo recommended halving my dose, from 100mcg to 50mcg.
I slept OK, but got very blah, no energy, loads of allergies and hay fever and bad headaches, plus my weight loss stopped.
I was told that my results were "normal", but I could see the "normal range is quite wide, and I was towards the top of the "normal" range.
So, I started on a mixed dose. Worked OK, really well for few weeks, had loads more energy, now I get hyper symptoms again, not as bad as many months ago, but my insomnia got worse again, and I have been getting hot again with racing pulse.
I was taking 50mcg for 4 days, then 100mcg for 3 days.
Waiting for results from my latest blood test.
I may need to take 50mcg for 5-6 days, and 100mcg for 1-2 days. I will know next week.
My hypo was created by having RAI mid last year, as I have Graves Disease and was very hyper-thyroid.
Been on Thyroxine since January 2016.
I have read a lot about other thyroid meds, more natural, NDTs, but at this stage I find them very expensive here, in Australia.
Hope this dose adjustment roller-coaster will stop soon, really over it by now.
Good luck and best wishes to us all!

Well I'm 2 1/2 weeks out and I think I may have hit my first stall. But I'm down 40 lbs since starting my pre op diet so I can live with that. Following everything the dr said however they mentioned eating every two hours and I can't eat that much but I am getting my Protein and my fluids in and best news of all NO MORE BLOOD PRESSURE MEDS!!! I do the treadmill a half mile every day and next week I plan on moving to a mile. Any suggestions to get out of this stall. scale hasn't moved since Monday. I know it's normal though. And VETS U DONT HAVE TO CODDLE ME. TELL ME LIKE IT IS.

That is a side effect of synthroid as well so you may want to talk to ur endocrinologist about a different thyroid medication I have seen many patients that had to stop taking that bc of insomnia. So if you continue to have problems it may be the medication itself!! Best of luck.

I'm in York county PA!!! Not to far from u!!!This is a great read. Little Bill, where are you from that you live on a farm in a 200 yr old house and it's too scary to hunt? Just curious. I live in the sticks myself in East Texas. I love the stories you tell. I also think you'd be a great writer.

I am in eastern PA. We are in the country, enough so that we have our own little target range, but the larger towns and cities aren't that far. When I was younger, there were several close calls, and a few people were killed in the woods during hunting season. We are about midway between NYC and Philadelphia, so we get all sorts of city people in the woods. I decided it wasn't worth getting shot. And thank you for your kind words on my stories. I enjoy telling them as well as writing them down.
This is one of those things that really sucks, but even as it's happening, you know it's going to be a great story someday. I have lots of things happen to me, where the best thing I can say is, "At least this will make a good story". I once had a pastor who said to me, "I believe God brings all these things into your life so you can tell the rest of us stories".When I was in grad school, I was really poor...and hungry. One week, I had nothing to eat but a bag of peanuts and one of raisins. I portioned them out every day. Mostly, I ate Beans and rice, nearly every day.
One day, one of the departments was having a reception and I snuck in and grabbed a plate with a sandwich and a handful of chips. I went outside to eat on the bench.
I swear, I only looked away for a second, but it was long enough. A damned squirrel jumped up, grabbed my sandwich, knocked my chips off, and ran. I cussed the little beast, but he ran up the tree and ate my sandwich while I watched.
Thus, I hate squirrels.

I also had another friend who was a pastor who had an incident very similar to yours when we were in Florida one time. He was sitting on the beach, just about to take a bite out of his sandwich. All at once, a seagull swooped down and grabbed it right out of his hand. And he was a skinny guy who couldn't afford to missed too many sandwiches.

I was told as long as I was off pain meds for 24 hrs I drove 4 days after surgery. But ask your surgeon to be safe every surgeon is different.
